Bump for the premiere tonight. You've got about 30 minutes in case you forgot to set your DVR.

Good first episode. The made a couple of bold possible questionable decisions last year with Quentin and Julia. Will be interesting to see if ratings take a hit because of it.

Still enjoying this show. From the ratings, it doesn't look like many are watching for some reason.

The bizarre episode descriptions don't help.

Iím still watching and up to date. It was nice to see everyone together for a couple of episodes. The show has so many running plots the group is always split so it was good to see them come together. They havenít touched on it again but it seems we get a retread of the ďshadelessĒ heroine by seasons end.

Honestly the first 2 or 3 seasons of this show was some of my favorite TV ever, and I still enjoy it, but at this point there’s been so much plot that I have trouble keeping up. Like this dude in Elliott’s head, I don’t remember him at all. Also I think it’s suffered without Quinten.

That guy in the mirror is the "Monster" that possessed Elliott's body for all of Season 4, or some PTSD aspect of it.

No, that guy was one of the monsterís previous hosts. The old hostís minds are trapped. He helped Elliot when he was possessed. When they extracted the monster he clung to Elliotís safe place so he wasnít removed.

Sera Gamble and John McNamara, the show runners, say in this article the finale works as a series ender. They were aware months ago that SYFY was likely not going to renew it.

It was an awesome show but I think it had sort of run it's course. Not really too upset it was cancellled, seems the right time. I am still pissed about Dark Matter however.

As long as it ends correctly a five-year run is fine.

Re: The Magicians (SYFY) -- Season 5 -- Premieres 1/15/20

I just binged most of season four and all of season five before next week's series finale. The show has run its course and season five feels lost without Quentin around. What was once the most tightly serialized show on television has spun its wheels during much of season five with yet another apocalypse. While I will re-watch the first four seasons, this fifth season is pointless and meandering. The producers thought they could have their cake and eat it too, not to mention the generally hostile misandrist tone of the writing. Some of the writers are using the characters as personal therapy on screen, which always drags down any tight drama.

I can see why the ratings died. The showrunners removed Q, the original Penny, and Katie for the most part in favor of weaker side characters and bizarre relationship drama. Even Alice has been put on the backburner this fifth season. They made sure to take her off the chessboard by having her fingers cut off.

These trends are obvious when binging the show's past two seasons. Quentin's exit may have been the only major plot development handled well.

Re: The Magicians (SYFY) -- Season 5 -- Premieres 1/15/20

They went for a happy-go-lucky series finale, a little disappointing and timid for showrunners that always pushed their characters over the edge. None of the main hero characters died and they wasted the return of the Beast. It was a fait accompli they would save the people of Fillory in the end, so that wasn't too surprising. In fact, most got something of a happy ending. Probably the best part was everyone opening their presents from Santa.

I normally would miss a show I loved so much at one time like The Magicians, but season five feels to me a lot like season six of Lost. It wasn't terrible, and had most of the original cast involved, but something always felt off and somewhat superfluous.

Something was way off with the Dark King arc. They must have had different plans for the character before getting the axe. I imagine he was being saved for a possible return in season six.

Re: The Magicians (SYFY) -- Season 5 -- Premieres 1/15/20

The Magicians deserved better. As a season finale it was fine. It's clear that SyFy did not give them much time to wrap up the show. The show runners tried to cram as much as possible into the episode but there was too much to cover...to many loss ends. That's SyFy's fault. The season as a whole missing Q. He was the tie that bound the different story lines. Last years season finale was a much better way to end the show. I'm a little surprised they couldn't find a new home on one of the streaming network though.
