Last 10 minutes were awesome.

And the ending has me intrigued to where this will go. Will be very interesting to see if they give more details into the species of that baby.

Personally when I saw the run time was around forty minutes I was pretty happy. There can be so much bloat in streaming shows because they don't have to cut anymore.

As for the episode itself, it took me a little while to get into it, but I did enjoy the little Easter egg type things. Also, cool to see an IG droid in action. Since they got Taika Waititi to voice that one would figure it will be back in some capacity.

I know some people will whine, complain and bitch because they want to watch it all on their schedule and not have something dictate it for them.
A different type of show and Netflix has different priorities for their shows. Netflix really doesn’t care about their shows being “forgotten”, which it really wasn’t. ST season 3 was a thing pretty much the whole summer thanks to social media and marketing/merchandising tie-ins. But even if that’s the case, Netflix wants to keep putting out as many series as they can. They want people to binge basically, and often.

Here's the final fight song in Rocky 4 -- at around 1:30 -- tell me that shit doesn't sound like the Mandalorian's theme:

Loved it. Didn't mind the runtime. It was brisk but not bloated. Loved the score. It was quite different than the typical Williams inspired fare. Sucks we won't see more of the IG-11 droid. The banter was great. Looks like he was voiced by Taika Waititi.

My daughter thought the crates in the final action scene looked like Companion Cubes. I agree, but they have nothing to do with Disney or SW.

It was voiced by Nick Nolte. That’s what I thought while watching. IMDB confirms it.

Really enjoyed this. I always liked the “Tales of the...” spinoff books with one-off stories at a smaller scale. This fit the bill nicely.

Other than the corny Golden Axe scene with Ron Perlman, I thought it was a pretty good start.
And I am also glad it will be weekly and not all dumped at once.

That is fully what I am expecting. It was too good for a one-off. It was awesome seeing an IG finally kicking ass.

Was Taika Waititi the voice?

So good, I love the way it looks compared to the new trilogy, the sets, costumes, etc remind me of the good parts of Solo.

Can’t wait to see the whole season.

It was...okay. It's hard to get invested in a character that can't emote. Hopefully, at some point the series will get in the habit of him having that helmet off more often than not. The action was great and the F/X was on par with the movies, so no complaints there. It's definitely made for the fans - I can't imagine anyone not knowing that much about Star Wars would find much engaging here.

So an "A" for the look/production design, but a "C" for the script/characterizations.

I found it on my Roku enabled TVs too... I was just expecting the Xbox to have it right away (it did eventually pop up on the home screen about 4pm for me).

From my review page ORBI-WAN GOES TO THE MOVIES

IN MID-STREAM: THE MANDALORIAN (TV-14) DISNEY+ - Star Wars steps into a serial-format live action TV series with a sci-fi western that delivers and leave you wanting more.

SPOILER FREE!

Well, Disney+ promised something special and they delivered. The new streaming platform made its debut in the United States and Canada on November 12, and although the first few hours were rough - more people signed up and logged on than ANYONE expected - the servers seem to be catching up, and Disney+ is a bonafide hit. Its catalog of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic content is down-right intoxicating (with even more to come), and it’s safe to say Disney saw a need and has delivered a spectacular family-oriented service that is extremely hard to argue with.

One of the most anticipated Star Wars themed projects (besides the upcoming Kenobi series, among others) has been The Mandalorian. Its first episode debuted yesterday, clocking in at a lean 38 minutes, with episode 2 coming Nov. 15, and the other 6 episodes becoming available on a semi-weekly basis through the end of December. Season 2 is already in production and filming, so it seems The Mandalorian is in for a respectable haul.

Let’s get to it, shall we? Set approximately 11 years after the Battle of Yavin, The Mandalorian follows a nameless bounty hunter (Pedro Pascal, who so far has not removed his helmet) as he goes about his daily business of capturing bail-jumpers and other targets, deftly dealing with those who get in his way, whether swiftly stopping a barroom bully and his friends, or dealing with a large creature chewing on his landing gear. In this first episode, his “handler” Greef Carga (Carl Weathers) puts him onto a lucrative bounty that sends him to The Client (Werner Herzog). Turns out this bounty has been in the wind for at least 50 years, and the payout if located and brought in means payment in something that seems to be more precious than credits to the Mandalorian.

The rest of the episode follows the bounty hunter tracking his quarry with the help of a Ugnaught moisture farmer (voiced by Nick Nolte!), and teaming up with a bounty droid, IG-11 (voiced by Taika Waititi) for a bit. The end of the episode drops a major bombshell that ties The Mandalorian to the Star Wars movies, and even the successful animated TV series in an unexpected and exciting way that will determine the direction of the first season.

Major kudos to writer John Favreau and director Dave Filoni for this first episode. They are deeply steeped in Star Wars lore - in fact Dave Filoni is responsible for some of the canon with his work on The Clone Wars and other Star Wars fare - and they have taken delight in letting us see details of the Star Wars universe that nobody ever addressed like - how do you go to the bathroom in a spaceship, and just how might that cackling lizard monkey from Return of the Jedi taste with seasoning? Also, we have hints that we will learn much more about Mandalorian culture and tradition, and the history of our nameless protagonist as well.

I loved The Mandalorian’s first episode. The beginning was not rushed, and it is definitely done in the style of an old spaghetti western. Based on the first installment, I will say it’s worth at least 4.5 out of 5 lightsabers. Looking forward to episode 2.

NOTES FOR PARENTS (No Spoilers) - The Mandalorian is rated TV-14 for sci-fi action related violence. There were no sexual situations, gore, or profanity. During a bar brawl, one of the instigators of the fight is cut in half by the door (not explicitly shown). Punches are thrown and heads are cracked. The Mandalorian’s ship is briefly threatened by a, uh, lizard walrus serpent? The Mandalorian is attacked by a couple of two legged lizard type cattle creatures, and we see a humorous scenes as he attempts to ride one. The Mandalorian and IG-11 team up to defeat their bounty’s captors, and there is a lot of shooting with pistols, rifles and a giant Gatling style gun.

I feel kind of the opposite, my wife has been alive for all of the movies but never really got into them but she did enjoy watching it with the kids. Really don't have to know much of anything about Star Wars to follow.

To me, this is for the type of fans that thought the Mos Eisley Cantina was the coolest place in the world (galaxy?) and wanted to follow some of the types of characters that were hanging out in there.

I enjoyed it but I agree that comments like "BEST STAR WARS RELATED THING SINCE EMPIRE!" are pretty over the top. It really did feel like a YouTube series that could have been broken up into smaller 15 minute chunks like that Mortal Kombat series a couple of years ago. I do enjoy the people bitching about the length though. I would rather have a tight well paced show under an hour then an hour show that drags and has a lot of padding.

I think it’s because it feels like a breath of fresh air for the Star Wars universe is why it’s getting a lot of love. It has some similarities in feel to the Original Trilogy, but yet it’s also got a very unique feel to it with the space western vibe it gives off. It’s not just retreading the same old shit in a less than satisfying way and is doing its own thing. Also Filoni’s involvement brings a built-in fanbase within the Star Wars franchise so that probably is bringing more hype.

The blue alien guy seemed like he walked straight off the set of The Orville, (bathroom humor) dialogue and all. Also, seeing Brian Posehn was just a reminder that this is a TV show and not an actual Star Wars movie.

That's pretty much my only criticism. It lacks a lot of emotional punch when you can't see the protagonist's face. I imagine he's eventually going to shed the helmet, when he's not busy kicking ass.
