Also, was the Batman mask in the island hinting that Bruce Wayne trained Oliver in the island instead of Slade?

Yeah that was a good start to the final season.
That Arrowverse version of "The Snap" was an interesting way to end things.
At 1st I was a little confused about the whole re-enactment of Oliver's rescue from the Pilot, then I finally picked up it was Earth 2. And funny how they made Adrian that earth's version of Arrow.
I am curious about 2040 flash forward and if that will have any tie-in to the Crisis.

They've already announced the intent to make one and will be doing a backdoor pilot.

Premiere was a timey-wimey blast! Tons of Easter eggs and an amazing final moment that evoked comics Crisis. This last season should be one hell of a ride.

I bailed on the show last year. Got fed up. Going to come back to see final season. Anything major happen last year?

Also, (in answer to an earlier post) Marc Guggenheim posted a piece of promo art today teasing the "Green Arrow and The Canaries" spin-off.

As for the current stuff with Oliver. He's doing a mission for The Monitor as per the deal he made with him in the last crossover. It basically forced him to leave Felicity and baby Mia behind. They did jump forward in time in last season's finale to Felicity giving birth.
The flash forwards from last season signified that Oliver died in 2019. And we saw Felicity in 2040 and after the big arc was wrapped, she made a deal with The Monitor to see Oliver again in some form basically writing her out. EB Rickards said she's not returning for the final season, so we're probably not going to see her when Oliver returns to present time because he basically left them to fulfill this mission for The Monitor.
If you know the context of what Oliver is doing then I don't think you will be completely lost. The flash forwards may not make much sense though. But to make it simple, Mia, William and Connor Hawke are basically the new Team Arrow of the future.

Wow, that was awesome. I thought Chase’s line delivery was a little odd, but that’s the Batman mask at the beginning and a quote from Bruce Wayne at the end. So was that Earth-2?

This is speculation, but in the comic story it was multiple Earths and multiple timelines getting thrown together. I think it’s very possible that the Team Arrow of 2040 will end up in the present and have to stay once their timeline is destroyed.
If this happens then I would expect that the aged Canaries will die in the crossover and get replaced on the team with their younger selves, just so the aging make-up isn’t required all the time.

This was a fun season opener that cut out many of the problems from the formula of the past two seasons. Less forced jokes and more fanboy service.

Okay, I’m coming back for the final season. I’ve been out of the Arrowverse for something like 3-4 year’s now though, so was lost on a lot of characters and settings. I’ve seen all the crossovers, so I picked up bits and pieces, but not all of it. I think last full season I watched was with the League of Shadows.
Loved how much it felt like season 1 Arrow.
Missing content isn’t half bad. It’s like when you first get into comics and see * in a panel which says “if you missed it check out xyz issue # for the details” which cause you to go find old issues. Kind of makes me want to go back and watch old seasons I missed.

In the comic book version of CRISIS, the Anti-Matter Wave affected all time periods. So the past, present, and future are all in trouble.
Yes, this was a sweet opening story.Nice seeing all the call back actors and the Batman Easter Eggs.
Rest In Peace Harry and Jesse Wells.

Arrow will be replaced by Green Arrow and the Canaries.
I think the thing I liked most about the episode was the dialogue between Oliver and Diggle, especially the easter eggs. No team drama, with a streamlined story.

Yeah, that was more like the early days of Arrow. Glad I came back to finish. Watching a 7 minute recap of S7 made me realize I missed literally nothing.

As I recall didn't the comic book crisis start by alternate-Earths being wiped out?

Like I said a few posts up, I really think those characters will end up in the present. And I speculate the overall concept of “Green Arrow & the Canaries” will involve them trying to make the necessary changes in the present to stop that future from ever happening.

I also bailed last year but my watch list this year is so low that I decided to jump on for the last 10. I had no idea who that blonde from the future was and kept thinking she looked like a young Felicity. Low and behold it's her daughter haha.
