I would totally watch a Batgirl show though (or a Batwoman show with Barbara Gordon in the role).

That’s what I was getting at. If they don’t recast the role as Kate they have to have a character linked to Bruce Wayne. That leaves Barbara Gordon or Carrie Kelly as the two obvious candidates with Alfred’s daughter another option. With Carrie they can even make her a friend/frenemy of Kate. She would know Luke and probably Mary. They would avoid the training period too. She would be a drop in replacement.
Of course they will probably just recast Kate.

As much as I liked Ruby and love the show, I'm excited about the change. Knowing both sides weren't happy sucks. I'm glad we may get a new actor who may change the whole energy of the show.

Ruby Rose:
Thank you everyone for coming on this journey. If I mentioned everyone it would be 1000 tags.. but Thank you to the cast, crew, producers and studio. It wasn’t an easy decision but those who know, know.. I didn’t want to not acknowledge everyone involved and how big this was for TV and for our community. I have stayed silent because that’s my choice for now but know I adore you all. I’m sure next season will be amazing also. Xxx *hangs up cowl and cape.

Maybe it's just me, but the costar reactions to Ruby leaving seem like they're glad she's gone. Not like, "Oh we'll miss you Ruby!" and more like, "Hey, we'll keep it movin'".

Yeah, I'm thinking she's going to have a hard time finding another leading role for a while.

The entire first season is now on HBO Max. It wasn’t supposed to be on there until a month before season 2. However, I guess the pandemic sped it up.

I just watched the Season Finale last night. There's so much material they have now that someone has
I hope the show is able to recast and move on.

Apparently Kate Kane will not be recast. They are creating a new character to become Batwoman.

Highly doubtful that they will ever mention that whole "Paragon" BS again.
Frankly, if they can find a replacement that won't be hamstrung by their self imposed Lesbian only criteria, who happens to be able to get along with co-workers, and is perhaps a 5 to 10% better actress than Rose, they would have come out ahead already.

Why is the "We here at the CW/Batwoman Show want a Lesbian to play this role" such problem for some of you? They want authenticity in the role in that particular area. What's the big deal?

Anyway, I LOVE that they are casting a whole new character. Less awkward than a new face playing the same character if done right.

It's not a problem. They have a lesbian Batwoman that is true to the comics. They are creating a brand new character to take over the Batwoman name that is also a lesbian. I have no problem who plays the role, but it does make it seem like "only lesbians can be Batwoman." Maybe it's a plot point, I dunno.

Re: Batwoman (CW) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 10/6/19
It does feel rather forced that it’s a new character instead of Kate Kane as Batwoman but she’s still a lesbian. Is that just a prerequisite box the show absolutely has to tick before moving forward?

Re: Batwoman (CW) -- Season 1 Thread -- Premieres 10/6/19
As far as Kate Kane being written out and replaced with someone else to be Batwoman, that sounds a little messed up. The studio is staying true to the character's sexuality but not to the character herself? I would think that Batwoman fans would be upset over that.
Variety has confirmed that The CW and Warner Bros. Television are looking to cast a completely new character to play the titular superhero for the show’s second season. According to a leaked casting notice, the new lead character is currently named Ryan Wilder, with sources saying she could be played by a woman of color. She is described as:
“She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her. With no one in her life to keep her on track, Ryan spent years as a drug-runner, dodging the GCPD and masking her pain with bad habits. A girl who would steal milk for an alley cat could also kill you with her bare hands, Ryan is the most dangerous type of fighter: highly skilled and wildly undisciplined. An out lesbian. Athletic. Raw. Passionate. Fallible. And very much not your stereotypical All-American hero.”

I'm going to speculate that ratings weren't as good as they should be for WB, so they're looking at a way to retool the show. A gay woman with white privilege wasn't cutting it, so maybe a gay "woman of color" from the streets will be better for ratings.
