About The Expanse Seasons 4: Season 4 of The Expanse, its first as a global Amazon Original, begins a new chapter for the series with the crew of the Rocinante on a mission from the U.N. to explore new worlds beyond the Ring Gate. Humanity has been given access to thousands of Earth-like planets which has created a land rush and furthered tensions between the opposing nations of Earth, Mars and the Belt. Ilus is the first of these planets, one rich with natural resources but also marked by the ruins of a long dead alien civilization. While Earthers, Martians and Belters maneuver to colonize Ilus and its natural resources, these early explorers don’t understand this new world and are unaware of the larger dangers that await them.

One of the rare shows that surpass the books they're based on. CAN'T WAIT.

This show started strong and has gotten better every season. I'm going to get in a rewatch of S3 before S4 drops.

Anybody seen details on format? I’m hoping with jumpy to Amazon the new season will be 4K HDR.

Pretty positive it'll have 4K HDR option. Pretty much all of Amazon Originals such as The Boys, Carnival Row, Jack Ryan, etc... have had 4K HDR options.

I believe you could already watch past seasons in 4K on Prime.

Season 2 is only coming up in HD for me. I broke my foot over the weekend, and am housebound for at least two weeks, so binging The Expanse and Fringe. Maybe Sarah Connor, too.

The series certainly does the books justice, but I wouldn't go as far to say they surpass them.

Regardless, Season 4 looks great.

I think this is currently my favorite show, so I’m very excited for the new season. I should probably rewatch 1-3 before the new one... or at least 3.

I'm going to rewatch the first 3 seasons before this starts. Also, I should just read the books as well. Love this show though.

I started my re-watch last night and am blown away by how great the first episodes are. I think this series is better as a binge and gets better with each re-watch. This is my 3rd time through, not counting scifi airings.

BTW The books are excellent and an easy read. Give em a shot.

I just finished my rewatch today, and I liked it even better the second time around.

I also found it funny watching the show knowing Bezos picked it up considering I could see him acting exactly the same as Jules-Pierre Mao.

I am stalled about 5 episodes in to season 2. I really liked most of season 1 but I lost much interest once the proto-molecule stuff started as that whole storyline bores me. Do they eventually move past that or does the proto-molecule continue to be a major presence in seasons 2 and 3?

Its a presence, but I’d say the characters and politics continue to take center stage.

Plus, the proto-molecule storyline becomes more interesting and more... urgent.

From what I remember the first book took up all of season 1 and half of season 2, so you should be right at the point where the proto-molecule storyline reaches a temporary stopping point and other storylines become the main focus. There is more to that storyline, but it takes a back seat for a while after
Spoiler:
it crashes on Venus.

Season 4 is up 4 hours early. I was able to get a 1 week Prime trial for $1.99 Ymmv.

I've been re-watching the series in 4k, which made it seem bright and sharp. Season 4 adds HDR to the mix, and gives it a darker, more subdued look, but a bit more "film-like".

Re: The Expanse (Now on Amazon) -- Season 4 Thread -- Premieres 12/13/19

I downloaded the 4K UHD version to my phone so I can watch on my commute. It's weird. The show seems to be in 2 different aspect ratios. When they are in space, it's 1.85:1 and when they are on another planet it goes to 2.35:1.

I'm on the third episode and it feels like they haven't missed a step. I'm enjoying it.
