Not a bad first episode back, but kind of felt like two mini-disjointed episodes slammed together.

As cool at Tim’s recovery scene was, it felt super random. Did they cut a scene where he got an allergy shot?!

Also, talk about the entire Talia situation being swept under the rug in 20 seconds. However, bet such a change would have had a larger impact on Nolan.

U mean like the fine ass Captain getting killed was supposed to have a big impact on him... they did the same thing, brushed it off. Fucking bullshit... But love the show

Re: The Rookie (ABC) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/29/19

Yeah, Tim busting out of the ambulance doors to save the day was beyond ridiculous. So was Chen jumping out of the parking garage into that dumpster. Totally stupid move IRL, and her superiors would not have been impressed.

Not surprising that they glossed over Talia's departure.

Not sure where they're going with Shahi's character. Obviously something about her actions is nagging at Nolan. Can't blame him for overlooking that for now, though. Damn, she's gorgeous.

Re: The Rookie (ABC) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/29/19

Didn't enjoy this as much as season 1. I knew they would have to write off Talia quick since she wasn't there to film any death/leaving scenes.

Fillion was definitely told to work out/lose some weight during the off season.

I hope his move doesn't mean his rich friend won't be on the show anymore (although, I assume it does).

Curious to see why they're holding back West.

Here's the official season 2 cast photo. Nathan looks really trim and fit. He looks like he's 30 to 40 pounds lighter than when he was on Castle.

Yeah, it was very noticeable. Unfortunately, I feel it may have backfired. He lost so much that now his skin is sagging a bit; making him look older. But bravo to him for getting in better shape, even if it's for an acting role.

Re: The Rookie (ABC) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/29/19

It was a decent episode. Yea the only issue I had was Tim's miraculous recovery and shot to save to day considering he was severely ill and seizing in the ambulance. That was pretty absurd.

That kind of sucked that they wrote out Talia with one short line. But, considering she quit before filming began, I guess they had no choice.

New actor cast as series regular to fill the void:

https://deadline.com/2019/10/the-roo...bc-1202749860/

EXCLUSIVE: Once Upon a Time alumna Mekia Cox is returning to ABC with a series regular role on the upcoming second season of the network’s light cop drama The Rookie starring Nathan Fillion.

Cox will play Detective Nyla Harper. After a four-year stint working undercover, Nyla Harper nearly lost herself. Now she’s putting the uniform back on, hoping to find normalcy again as she takes on the role of training officer. However, with her home life in disarray, and the demons of undercover life still in her head, Nyla’s got as much to learn as she does to teach. Her character first appears in the upcoming fourth episode “Warriors and Guardians.”
She was recently also on Chicago Med and had a big arc on that show.

Is she the one who played Platt's daughter on Med?

Wife commented that she thinks this season is already better than the first. Nathan actually looks in better shape than last season, His bonding with the night detective in the second episode was great, and it’s obvious we’ve seen how they are road mapping this show after they stop calling it The Rookie...

Funny to see Harold Perrineau, Ali Larter, and Mitch Pileggi all in this episode.

Looks like at least one Castle alumnus will be appearing on the show next week, as part of the "Cast from the Past" theme ABC is doing.

spoiler: It's not Stana Katic.

Yeah, lots of random appearances on this show so far already.

Fan of Harold but not really a fan of the story line of a rookie all of a sudden riding with a detective and basically training to be one. A rookie (or 2nd year) would never get that opportunity and all the officers working their way to becoming detectives would be salty AF.

Larter still looks as good as the whip cream bikini.

Re: The Rookie (ABC) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/29/19

I finally caught the first episode and liked it. It will be interesting to see how the dynamic of this season changes from the first.

And, yeah, Fillion lost a fair amount of weight, but it did make him look older. The same thing happened to my brother in law - he lost about 40 pounds, but now looks about 10 years older than me (and I'm 2 1/2 years older than him).

Still, this should make Fillion a little more agile and athletic for those action scenes.

I loved the first season, and, so far, this season looks good, too.

Good episode this week. It was fun to see "Ryan and Esposito" again. Wish they could have put them in a scene together somehow.

Ali Larter is looking good, and it looks like it's being set up for Nolan to have to choose between her and Shahi.

From the previews it appears next week we may see the replacement for Bishop.

Yeah, though it was more fun to see Dever because I see Huertas on This Is Us all the time.

Damn, Shahi in that tight leather skirt.

Unrealistic gun battle frequency aside, this show has been getting better each episode. The new TO is a good addition.

Yeah when Chen came blasting her gun from passenger seat. that was cool. Loved it when THE ROOKIE stood up to his new TO.

Re: The Rookie (ABC) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/29/19

OK, I'm caught up now (thank you Hulu), and I really liked the way Nolan handled his new TO. That's just good writing (and good acting).

The new TO was out of line, and Nolan wasn't putting up with her shit.

What I liked most was how they kept it organic to the character. He's still the same guy who was intimidated by Bishop, but with 6 months of street duty under his belt he's more confident, and his age plays into it as well. The character is written the way a 45 year old would handle that situation. The other rookies have the lack of confidence of people in their early 20's, while Nolan has the life experience that gives him more confidence in general.

Like last season, the show is getting better as it goes along. I just hope they get another season, because I'd really like to see where these characters go.

They succeeded in making the new TO as unlikable as possible, but the end scene put things in an interesting light. I liked how Gray supported and trusted Nolan

I thought they had used another Firefly alum, Summer Glau, as the homeless woman, but it was a different actor.
