The Unicorn (CBS)

This was not bad, will give it a few more

A tight-knit group of friends and family band together to help Wade embrace his new normal in the wake of the loss of his wife a year earlier. As a sometimes ill-equipped but always devoted single parent to his two adolescent daughters, he is taking the major step of dating again. To Wade's amazement, he's a hot commodity with women, and his friends explain that he's the perfect single guy: employed, attractive and with a proven track record of commitment. With his daughters and best friends rooting him on and hoping he'll find happiness, Wade and his healing heart are ready to try life and love again.

I thought this was pretty decent.

I watched it with my Wife. It was pretty good.

Thought it was meh and an unusual marriage of star and material. Goggins usually makes more interesting choices.

This is so enjoyable. Goggins is just great and so in his element. He really has become one of my favorite low key actors. So versatile. The cast is very good as well. Corrdry, etc. very well cast...

best show I've sampled this season, hope it sticks around...

Goggins and Corddry? Wow, I may actually tune into CBS for something other than sports or reality (Survivor/Amazing Race) for the first time since hate-watching their slapstick comedy Under the Dome.

It's worth a watch for sure. I'm a fan of Omar Miller as well. It's really a tight cast for a half hour sitcom.

Re: The Unicorn (CBS)

Just watched the pilot and I really enjoyed it. Goggins is terrific of course, even if he is playing a 'normal' character far away from his amazing roles like Lee Russell (Vice Principals) or Baby Billy (The Mighty Gemstones). The supporting cast was also great, and the writing was quick and and witty. And here is the shocking part: I did not hate the kid characters. They were entirely appropriate in the show's context and actually contributed something besides a demographic.

I'll definitely keep watching for now.

It really is a shame there is so much garbage, low-quality scripted network television that actual potentially quality shows like this get lost in the cesspit. If not for Goggins I would never have given this show a glance.

I've only watched the pilot, and the only thing I didn't care for was the guitar-strumming score.

episode 2 was a bit of a dud for me but I'll give it another episode

They've replaced the touchy-feely guitar in the pilot with a peppier "Sitcom-Appropriate" score, though I don't know why they necessarily need one.

The scene with the survivors group was hilarious and pretty much how one would go. I was afraid with them bringing out the bourbon he'd wake up sore with all those sex crazed women.

And here's where the series has a problem, since like most series, it's aimed primarily at women. Can Walt get laid and still be sympathetic? Once, maybe, but if he has sex regularly (whatever that is determined to be) that's a problem (since that subverts the premise), and if he enters a relationship it also subverts the premise.

Hi, I’m a young widower.

That is NOT how they go. Most of the meetings I went to were people in their 50+ and they were not drinking wine. It was coffee and crackers.

its unrealistic he would find a group with a dozen young Women is same age who are widows. It’s just...not realistic. If it was, my dick would be very sore.

We watched episodes 2 and 3 tonight and laughed our butts off. Goggins does clueless dad extremely well....

Great! We have friends and coworkers just like his who are well-meaning and just want the best for us, and sometimes can be a little overbearing about it. We still love them to death and find this aspect of the show very realistic.

Re: The Unicorn (CBS)

Good news. One of the first traditional network shows I have stuck with for a very long time (last was Brooklyn Nine-Nine). I wonder how they will they keep it fresh since it has basically been slight variations of the same plot each week, well done though it has been. The way it has gone so far if he got a girlfriend the show would essentially be over. I'm interested to see where they take it now that they know they have a full season to play with.
