I asked my wife this during last week's episode (we're about the same age as the characters and she has a brother a couple years younger) and she said it's absolutely a thing. I don't get it either.

I thought Sterling K. Brown was amazing in this episode, as always.
The Kate storyline is still the weakest of the three, but not bad. Watching her relationship with Toby is interesting - my wife sides to Kate, and I tend to side with Toby (except for his ridiculous reaction to his son's disability - which he is getting over). And why the fuck was Kate so upset with her friend sleeping with Kevin? They're both adults and can make their own choices. It's not like she slept with Toby. Maybe it's because I'm male, but I just don't see the issue.

You have to consider that Toby is dealing with Depression and that influences his immediate reactions. I'm glad that Kate finally realized that Toby has feelings too, and that he should be able to express them, and that she should help him try to deal with them rather than shut him out.

Oh, and I was waiting for Kevin at some point to take his Mom by the shoulders and say in a slow, loud voice "I'M YOUR SON, KEVIN!" as a joke.

Oh, and I totally relate to the baseball card parts
Only problem there is anyone who has "enjoyed" the high quality gum in card packs knows that there's no way it's capable of blowing bubbles like the one she made at the end when she found the card he was missing. His description of the flavor only lasting a minute was accurate though.

Skimming over some of the scenes now, I don't hear what you're hearing. It seems like how any regular scene would be executed. They shot the scene with both actors doing their performance except they aren't showing one of them. It's not like Adlon was off camera yucking it up out of character.

Good episode, but Randall was annoying as hell. I guess that's the point given his current "come to grips with his neuroses" storyline.
When Kevin pulled out the "I'm paying for mom's treatment so back the fuck off" line, which normally would have made me hate Kevin, I cheered for him given how Randall was treating him (historically and currently re: Kevin's career).

I liked this episode a lot. I really liked the ending too, but I don't think I want to see a whole episode about "if Jack lived'. I'm sure they'll do a decent job with it though.

Randall was being out of character bitchy. And that treatment wouldn't have been possible without Kevin's millions. Surprised they didn't have Kate attend as well.

I thought that at the end of the episode Kevin looked older than he should given the apparent age of the children, but otherwise this was a flawless episode.

In a not so subtle way, they showed that Future Nicky was wearing a wedding band (you saw it when he hugged Kevin).
So I'm gonna speculate that...
And if the Big 3 just turned the Big 4-0 (2019), and Maddison is due in 7-8 months (2020), and the twins are 13-14, then the deathbed scene is in 2033-2034 when the Big 3 are in the Big Mid-50s.
Kevin could be that gray... I mean, he's has a lot to deal with lately.

Curious why Madison's Dr had his own break away scenes. We assumed that was going to end up being a young Major Dad.
Is that gathering at the cabin in the future also the gathering alluded to in the first (?) future scene when Randall's daughter was grown up?

He then turned around and said the same thing to Madison when she was sure that the father of her baby (Kevin) wouldn't want to be involved. "You haven't given him a chance to be what he wants to be."
Then she went back and talked to Kevin.
... and your point about the future meeting, this in attendance that we have seen:

The producers say that the doctor will be a ongoing character next season and has a connection to McRaney's doctor.

I know I'm late to the party but my wife and I just binged watched this past season. It's the perfect show to binge watch the only disadvantage is waiting so long to do it. I'm really hard pressed to think of a show with such high caliber writing and acting across the board with so many different storylines and characters and actors playing the same character. It should be a mess but it isn't. It should be schmaltzy but it isn't. The emotional payoff is always worth it. Even when you think "where the hell are they going with this?"

I can totally see that being a thing. What if your best friend screwed your sister? The reaction would be about the same for me.
