‘Hogan’s Heroes’ Sequel Series In the Works

EXCLUSIVE: Another classic TV sitcom is mounting a comeback. The iconic 1960s comedy Hogan’s Heroes is being rebooted by the original series co-creator Al Ruddy, Village Roadshow Entertainment Group and Rough Pictures.

The reimagined version will be a single-camera action adventure comedy series set in present day focusing on the descendants of the original heroes, now scattered around the world, who team up for a global treasure hunt.

Ruddy will executive produce with Rough House Pictures principals Danny McBride, David Gordon Green and Jody Hill and the company’s president of production Brandon James. Alix Jaffe and Adam Dunlap will oversee for VREG

Co-created by Ruddy and the late Bernard Fein, the original Hogan’s Heroes spanned 168 episodes that ran on CBS from 1965-1971. It centered around a group of Allied POWs imprisoned in a German prison camp, led by U.S. Colonel Robert Hogan, who secretly used the camp to launch Allied espionage missions. The series starred Bob Crane as Hogan, Werner Klemperer as Colonel Wilhelm Klink, Richard Dawson as Corporal Peter Newkirk and John Banner as Sergeant Hans Schultz.

Hogan’s Heroes is part of the Rysher Library, which VREG’s parent company Vine purchased in 2015.

Ruddy also produced features including The Godfather and Million Dollar Baby. Rough House Pictures’ credits include the HBO series Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals and The Righteous Gemstones which was recently picked up for a second season.

The idea that this concept would be linked to the TV show "Hogan's Heroes" is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.

What a bizarre choice of a show to reboot. Just seems way too far past the end of the original show that I don’t see a new audience being interested.

I absolutely LOVE Hogan's Heroes.

And I have no interest in this whatsoever. The original cast is gone, the original writers and directors are gone. The concept stretches credibility, even for Hogan's Heroes.

This is a bad idea.

They found a whole new barrel at the bottom of the barrel. Next up, a reboot of Amos ‘n’ Andy.

The plot sounds more like the movie Kelly's Heroes.

Hogans Heroes is my favorite Comedy show ever and I believe only one cast member is still alive, making a show about their descendants completely defeats the purpose of the original show. They would just be normal people looking for treasure that happen to have the same last names. Its not like Klink and Schultz's family would secretly be Nazis and Hogan the third and co would have to stop them. Just another dumb Hollywood idea to prove that originality is forever gone.

This sounds horrible. I'd rather watch one of Bob Crane's personal videotapes.

I had no idea what Crane was into and how he died until I read this article about him. He was into some wild stuff to put it mildly.

I'm sort of fascinated with the question of whether someone had the idea to do a show about an international treasure hunt with characters from various countries, and then someone later on suggested making them the descendants of Hogan's Heroes?
Or was someone determined to reboot the Hogan's Heroes brand name, and this was the only concept they could come up with that was not inherently offensive?

Oh, and the producer/creator Al Ruddy is 89 years old. If you want your mind blown, check out his credits on IMDB.

Producers will rummage thru the trash bin to update any old idea. Soon, we'll be getting crossovers of old shows like: The Brady Bunch meets Gilligan's Island.

Re: ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ Sequel Series In the Works

Crane, Klemperer, Dawson, Banner, Clary, Dixon and a bunch of others are dead. I'm not sure a new cast will be able to capture the ambience and this is just a show trading on the popularity of the past.
