Re: More Star Trek TV projects (including Picard series) in development

I'm kind of sick of these series where we check in on characters after a few decades and find out they've been doing nothing all this time.

You mean like Rick Deckard in Blade Runner 2049?

Rescue mission has something to do with Romulans and spock vanishing into the alt timeline.

After having Luke Skywalker shit all over I don't think I could handle Picard being ruined.

Now it's 15 years after some major event wheather it happened onscreen or not. It alludes to something happening that caused him to lose his faith. If it refers to losing his faith in Starfleet with something that happened onscreen than it would seem unlikely or odd that he would have stayed to be promoted to Admiral.
He was already losing faith in general with the death of his nephew in Generations.

According to the Star Trek timeline, Spock vanishing and the destruction of the Romulan homeworld happened in 2387. If this is the event they are referring to then the new show would take place in 2402, about 23 years after Nemesis. If this "event" happened after the initial sscene in the 2009 movie, we would be beyond 2402 for the new series which would make Picard 100 years old. The writers say they want to keep the new series contemporary and reflect current day issues. So I wonder if the event from 15 years ago will have paralells to 9/11 and as others have mentioned could have something to do with immigration of Romulans to other worlds.

Re: More Star Trek TV projects (including Picard series) in development

I always though the Star Trek Enterprise Xindi story arc was the latest Trek came to addressing contemporary storyline similar to 9/11.

I think of anything, the Federatikn dealing with an influx of immigrants from Romulus and those fleeting war would be more apt (ala Syria). I’m not up on Star Trek online, but I think the Federation are at war with the Klingons and the Dominion. I believe it’s canom, but I suppose they could always pull a Star Wars and decide the extended universe type stuff goes out the window.

There are at least three different "extended universes" in Star Trek right now (novels, comics, and STO), and odds are they're all getting tossed. But unlike with Star Wars, no one (who paid attention) was under the illusion that these would be protected if new television/movie projects came along.

It won't. Simply because Paramount owns the Star Trek movies, while CBS owns the TV series. The story of JJ Abrams' movie won't play a part in this, I almost guarantee it. Too many potential legal problems.

Re: More Star Trek TV projects (including Picard series) in development

https://deadline.com/2019/06/michael...es-1202638580/

EXCLUSIVE: “I’m really so delighted, and I can’t believe I get a chance to be part of this,” Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon told Deadline last fall about joining the writers room of CBS All AccessStar Trek: Picard series as an executive producer. The lifelong Star Trek fan has now been named showrunner of the Star Trek revival that is bringing Trek icon Patrick Stewart back into Federation space.

Chabon, who had been part of the core creative team on the series, is working closely on the day-to-day production with fellow executive producers, veteran Star Trekwriter/producer Akiva Goldsman, and Alex Kurtzman, who continues to oversee the expansion of the growing Star Trek universe for CBS TV Studios.

Is it time to give "Picard" it's own thread?

Yeah it's probably time to take out all the Star Trek: Picard news and spin it into it's own thread since it launches in the Fall.

I find it disturbing that Picard is going to have a dog, when we all know he barely kept care of that fish.

It's a cyborg dog with Data's memories.

Hey, "that fish" has a name: Livingston. Sad thing is that I actually pulled that from my head.

That looks awesome. Nice little appearance by Seven of Nine and Data at the end. But damn, 2020.

I guess the special effects for this is taking some time.

I wonder if they’ll be cameos and in the case of Data a flashback. Unless they’re retconning Nemesis or somehow explain that B-4 has Data’s memories. Could also just be Spiner playing B-4 and not Data. I can’t wait for this.
