For All Mankind (Apple TV+) -- S: Joel Kinnaman -- NASA series from the creator of Battlestar Galactica
I've been waiting for a good sci fi show to come along since BSG went off the air ages ago. Anyone know if Apple will be offering a streaming service for all the shows they are ordering or if they will be itunes shows for 1.99 or something?
What they have below sort of reminds me of a cross between Counterpoint and Man in High Castle which are both shows I like...

Apple has ordered a space drama from Battlestar Galactica creator Ronald D. Moore, Deadline reports. Moore will write the currently untitled series, while Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi (Fargo) will serve as executive producers.
Moore’s show is predicated on the idea that the space race of the Cold War never ended, according to Deadline. It’s the third original scripted show to get a series order from Apple. Last month, Apple ordered the Steven Spielberg anthology series Amazing Stories, and a drama about a network morning show starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon.
Moore’s return to space drama is an exciting prospect for fans. He’s known not only for rebooting Battlestar Galactica, but also for his work on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He’s since worked on other genre shows, such as Syfy’s Helix, and Starz’s Outlander.
This summer, Apple announced it would invest $1 billion in original scripted content in 2018, hoping to compete with premium networks like HBO and streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. In October, Netflix said it planned to spend a massive $8 billion next year to increase its original content output, while this year Hulu said it spent around $2.5 billion. Unlike its competitors, Apple up until now has mostly experimented with unscripted shows, like Carpool Karaoke and Planet of the Apps.
Apple hasn’t announced a release date for any of its scripted series yet.

BSJ?
No one knows yet what Apple is doing with these scripted shows they've ordered. I know they ordered an Amazing Stories reboot and also a series with Jennifer Anniston and Reese Witherspoon. But, no one knows or it hasn't been reported yet how the shows are being distributed.
If it's in fact another pay per month streaming service, I'm sure it's going to be met with groans and rolled eyes.

Looks interesting. Kind of weird to see the alternate reality with the Soviet moon landing. I'm a fan of Ronald D Moore so I might try and figure out a way to watch this...
I wonder if this means Hanna was not renewed over on Amazon with Joel Kinnaman staring in this.

I was really excited about the concept behind this show, but the more I see, the less interesting it gets. It seems more like a tribute to wokeness than an actual what-if story about the space race.

None of these Apple shows look bad, but at the same time none of them really jump out and make me want to subscribe either.

A revisionist version of historical events where America looses. It’s kind of sad that someone would want to make something like this.
In reality the Soviets did beat us in so many regards. First satellite, first animal in space, first man, first woman, first space walk, etc. If you want to show us losing, make a show about that.

There's always been some (revisionist?) theories out there that the reason the Russians didn't beat the USA to the moon is because they really didn't see a priority in it. It wasn't until JFK announced the U.S. was going there than the Russians gave any thought to it - at which point they were already way behind, as their space program was never designed with landing on the moon in mind.

I watched the 1st episode tonight. It's very well made, but it's a little slow. Those sampling this might enjoy this if you watched Mad Men or liked First Man or From the Earth to the Moon. The first episode deals with the Russians landing on the moon 1st and then focuses on the Americans working on Apollo 11. It's definitely an alternate/revised take on NASA history.
I like period dramas like this, so I'll check out episodes 2 and 3 later this weekend most likely.

I didn't DISLIKE the first episode, but I have no idea where this show is going to (or can) go to keep my interest. Obviously, we know from the trailer that female astronauts are going to play a role in this first season...but after that? A mission to Mars maybe? Going beyond where WE have gone in the space program (and perhaps Moore's plan is to show that NASA would have been much better off today had we lost early in the space race) might be the way to go...but whether they're doing that or not, who knows?

Just as an FYI if you have the Apple App installed, the first two eps of each of these new shows are free to watch, the third ep costs the subscription. This is the only show I am interested in so checking these two out to see if I want to subscribe for a month to finish it off..

Re: For All Mankind (Apple TV+) -- S: Joel Kinnaman -- NASA series from the creator of Battlestar Galacti
Having watched the first two eps, I think this is really a mixed bag. I still really like the concept, the "Red Moon" idea, the push to militarize everything vs the theme of pure exploration, etc. It looks good, and it's really well produced. BUT:
-The Presentism is just nonsense. If you're old enough to have lived through the cold war in the 70s and 80s, you know that, even if the Soviets had been winning, they would not have given two shits about the feminist angle of this show, and neither would NASA at that time. Granted NASA has changed drastically, but back then there was (obviously) a win-at-all-costs sentiment in everything we and the USSR did. Call me an old curmudgeon, but this angle in a show set in 1969-70-71 is just goofy and doesn't work.
-Kinnaman: I actually liked him in Altered Carbon, but boy is he non-emotive and dull in this. I haven't seen him in much else so maybe it's just the writing/character.
-The dialog between Kinnaman and wife was cringeworthy but maybe it's first-show roughness.
I'll keep watching for the concept and hope for the best.
I loved BSG even as it wrote itself into a corner and went all Lost.... I'm really pulling for Moore on this one.
