Man, that scene with Kinnaman and VanSanten at the end of Episode 3. That's Emmy-reel material for Joel. Great acting.

I find that Michael Dorman is outstanding here. He gained weight specifically for this season. That's really putting your craft at the top of you priorities.

I actually thought his performance in season 1, especially the, “Hey Bob!” episode was outstanding. He really sold his performance, and it wasn’t in an over the top manner.

Episode 4 was great all around, including some all around great performances and quite a bit of plot development. Plus that end scene was nerve-racking! A few observations:
  • I honestly don’t know when anybody is safe or not. I fully expected Discovery to explode ala Challenger.
  • All is most definitely not well with Molly...
  • The wife thinks I’m crazy, but I strongly felt the writers were implying something with Gordo’s son and Karen.
  • I’m very worried about Danielle’s retro mission!
  • Ed is acting very Jekyll and Hyde. As much as Gordo and Danielle have issues, I’m starting to question how much Ed should be going to space.

I totally think Ed's wife is going to hook up with Gordo's son. My wife and I totally got that feeling.

I was braced for a disaster in the shuttle launch too. I'm really enjoying the show even if they are spending very little time on the moon so far.

I did see an article saying Ronald D Moore was creating some content for Disney so I hope he is able to keep this show alive and keeps a hand in the third season despite that.

I don’t know if it’s the alt history angle, but I feel as though I’m constantly on the end of my seat. I have no idea who is or is not safe!

I'm late to the party but my wife and I started this over the weekend. We just reached the

time jump

This show couldn't be more up our alley. Very cool alternate reality they've created. Makes you realize how sad it is that we never continued our space/moon exploration after 13. Looking forward to catching up so I can actually read the comments in this thread.

Sad to see more folks are not tuning into this show. The character development is really good and the world-building is very interesting as well. Another solid episode, really enjoyed seeing Tracey taken down a notch or two as well as the progression of Gordo back to 'fighting shape' and overcoming his phobia. Shaping up to be a very solid second season.

Re: For All Mankind (Apple TV+) -- S: Joel Kinnaman -- NASA series from the creator of Battlestar Galacti

We're through the 2nd episode of season 2 now. Really like how they're poking at the better technology we'd have if we never stopped going to space (the equivalent of facetime, electric car...etc).

I get the time jump but I wish there was an outcome for the Russian. After Ed launched, we assume he just went back to his base and they never had contact again? The two of them were starting to have good chemistry; would have liked to have seen more of that. Also curious how Ed and his wife ended up owning The Outpost.

Up to episode 4 now; almost caught up with live releases. This is definitely in my top 5 shows currently airing at this point.

I was telling my wife from the beginning of the episode...I thought it was because the actors are close enough to hooking up age that they just gave off the wrong type of tension on-screen. Nope...

That last scene was so far beyond absurd. Music and all. Love Margot at this stage.

I'm not sure which was worse, seeing the fiery death or the pseudo-oedipal basement scene.

Can any science experts explain the fire in the cosmonaut's suit? I'm guessing a spark ignited in the oxgen-rich suit, but I'm wondering if that's actually possible.

That's how we killed the first three Apollo astronauts in 1967. A spark in the command module created a swift, uncontrollable conflagration in the oxygen-rich air during a training exercise. I would assume the same danger would apply to a space suit.

Wow, Karen, really? Poor kid is going to need therapy for the rest of his life. Otherwise a good episode and very solid season.

Looks like Molly is really starting to pay the piper for her heroics on the moon. I've had a soft spot for Sonya since Mind of the Married Man so I've enjoyed seeing her in this run.

I keep expecting something bad to happen in flight and I'm wondering if the weaponizing of the new Shuttle will be the big season finale and some kind of disaster, I really like Joel / Ed so I hope to see him continue into the third season.

Karen is an idiot.

I hope the U.S. astronauts that were in Russia got out of there before the confrontation on the moon. Things are going to get ugly.

I'm not clear on why that kid is working at The Outpost in the first place. Naval Academy midshipmen don't just go home for the summer and work crappy jobs, they are assigned positions within the Navy or the Marines and start learning about what they just signed up to do with their lives. Future therapy not withstanding, that kid is having a better summer than most plebes.

I'm expecting this 80s season to have its own version of the Challenger explosion.

But, taking in consideration that this timeline isn't new to idea of losing astronauts on missions and taking crazy risks, I shudder to think what form its version of the Challenger explosion will take to shake up this world the way it did ours.

Re: For All Mankind (Apple TV+) -- S: Joel Kinnaman -- NASA series from the creator of Battlestar Galacti

Well, they figured out the o-ring issue without a launch failure so first I was expecting a loss of life during the 'Valkrie Mission' either someone falling off or a crash, the habitat seems pretty secure so I have to wonder about a major failure coming somewhere... I do like how they keep us guessing about alternate timelines and future storylines, a very solid show...

Also liked the touch of how easily they move and kneel on the moon compared to the clunky suits of the first season. The Russian cosmonaut was nearly doing parkour when they ran from the base the last episode.

So, war in space. Will be interesting to see whether the Soyuz crew tries to attack the Saturn crew during the joint "peace" mission. The attack on the U.S. moon base came just after the launch of both peace mission ships.

Margo's Russian buddy seemed a little too happy that Soyuz had launched. Wouldn't be surprised to see it's unmanned and loaded with explosives.

Wow. That was a pretty gripping final scene for Gordo and Tracey. Sad to see them go as they were my favorite characters.
