Re: For All Mankind (Apple TV+) -- S: Joel Kinnaman -- NASA series from the creator of Battlestar Galacti

Yea not to be one of those people online I keep reading about(anti woman in everything or whatever) but seriously, I can't figure out the point of this show. It seems to be rewrite of history to force woman into roles or something from what I read here. I only seen half the first episode. But I can't see the point of this and frankly pisses me off in a way. We didn't lose the moon race. As pointed out here only probably cause the Russians didn't even have the idea to do it. I don't know I'm jsut annoyed so far in the show I already want to stop watching it entirely.

Let's compare this to the Amazon show that rewrites history. That at least has some time travel mechanic for it to at least happen and the story unfolds as it goes. This show just rewrites stuff ...why. We're supposed to enjoy a show where America ...sucks. I don't know I guess I just don't get it.

Just watched the fourth episode. It was good and inspiring - the subplot with the Latina girl is expanded upon and it was really cool.

I'm caught up on this. It's well made, but a really slow burn story-wise. I can't really tell where it's going, and it's getting to the point that I don't really care. I'll give it a few more episodes to see what happens with the Apollo 15 mission.

This show is getting better. Of course, it didn't hurt that Sopranos' alumn (and Boardwalk Empire and Ray Donovan) Allen Coulter directed episodes three and four.

A few Battlestar nods in the last episode. Not just the time jump, but the dialogue "Sometimes you've got to roll the hard six." - something Adama always said.

Also the same theme as BSG - you get a bunch of hard-drinkin' misfits of diverse ethnic and gender makeup, add in a little romance, inexplicably give them the keys to a space ship, and they can overcome any odds, as long as there's cool music playing in the background.

OK, now this is just getting silly. Tying the Equal Rights Amendment to space travel. I get this is speculative fiction, but it is just hitting us over the head with wokeness as the be-all end-all over human achievement and technological progression.

And, memo to Ron Moore: You go out of your way to make the evil "Republican Congressman" figure suddenly flip toward supporting the ERA. That can't happen, right? He must be up to something! And he is! He's been paid off with a contract for his state, which goes horribly wrong and results in deaths and bad explody things! Dang those nasty conservatives, right?

Here's a quote about the ERA from Wikipedia:

The Republican Party included support of the ERA in its platform beginning in 1940, renewing the plank every four years until 1980.[32] The ERA was strongly opposed by the American Federation of Labor and other labor unions, which feared the amendment would invalidate protective labor legislation for women. Eleanor Roosevelt and most New Dealers also opposed the ERA. They felt that ERA was designed for middle class women, but that working class women needed government protection. They also feared that the ERA would undercut the male-dominated labor unions that were a core component of the New Deal coalition. Most northern Democrats, who aligned themselves with the anti-ERA labor unions, opposed the amendment.[32] The ERA was supported by southern Democrats and almost all Republicans.

My point being: hey, maybe just make a show about exploration and
1.) stop shoving nausea-inducing presentism down our throats, and
2.) stop trying to revise real history to reframe space flight as a social issue and right-vs-left thing

This sucks. I'm out. Very disappointed at what could have been, cause it's a great idea for a show.

Someone's unhappy.

In Ron Moore's (and the other writers) defense, he made Democratic President Ted Kennedy just as, if not more, complicit.

Politics aside, I thought the latest episode was one of the best.

Is anyone else still tuning into this? I'm really enjoying the writing and the overall story line. The cast is pretty great as well. I do wish they would drop the whole season at once so I could binge watch. given how much content there is its harder to remember a new episode is coming each week and as its on a steramer I cant DVR it or something to grab my attention.

Really enjoying this.

Last episode was a cracker...

I thought it was kind of odd that they let the janitor guy pick papers out of the trash and take them home. Guess they didn't after all! Also looks like his daughter is screwed, too. If that stuff he was pulling out of the trash was so sensitive, I would think they would have burned it or shredded it instead of letting it sit in wastebaskets.

I think I actually gasped when
Spoiler:
Molly got ejected into space without a tether. Pretty crazy how Gordo encouraged his wife to pull off that risky rescue.

And is Ed in deep shit now?

Wow that was the best episode of a show in a long time. I completely got sucked into the plot when the spoiler above happened. I've had a crush on "molly" going back to Mind of the married man a million years ago with her British accent. So I was a bit crushed to think of how this would play out. Its always a nice surprise for me when she appears in a show.

I don't know if you are aware of the post credits preview of the next show but the next episode seems to center around the other ship.

Its cool how this show has so many Easter eggs like calling Cape Canaveral Cape Kennedy and other alternate timeline things. I have a feeling Ed is going to figure out what the Russian was up to and why he came by and is going to loose his mind a little when he finds it was well intentioned.

Yes surprising they went there
Spoiler:
and did not kill off the crew in either of the capsules or molly in space. As much as I love Molly she was expendable and it would have been more dramatic to have her die while trying to rescue her or something along those lines. The next ep preview shows the crew of the other rocket trying to get home so they too are safe. The boys death felt like a gut punch as it was out of nowhere.

Had that happened, the show would be stretching believably as to why NASA was still operating...only so many things that can go wrong before funding is pulled. I imagine Ron Moore has told the writers "only "x" number of space disasters per season, guys."

Good news is that this looks to be renewed with IMDB listing a season 2. It also appears that Servant will also see a season 2.

Yes. The Morning Show, See, and For All Mankind (and Emily Dickinson too, I believe) got Season 2 orders shortly after Apple + launched.
