Yup, had the exact same reaction. Recognized him but couldn't place him.

This was everything I could want out of 90s Action Movie: The Series. Hope we get a 2nd season.

I got snowed in and then wrecked my back shoveling, so I ended up watching the whole thing trapped on my couch. That's unusual for me, -I still haven't finished Sn 2 of Jack Ryan. While I realize it's not re-inventing the wheel, it hit the expected story-beats in an enjoyable way and I really liked the main cast and their chemistry.
Here's a question for readers of the books (unless I missed something), -why does his family (in flashbacks) call him "Reacher" instead of "Jack".

Really enjoyed the camaraderie between the "good guys" during the series.

Got a laugh about Finlay's outrage over every violent act by Reacher in the beginning, and the eventual transition to

Spoiler:
"okay" by the time that Reacher mentions that he killed Dawson and four other guys at the Hubble house

I liked them, too, but the way the Reacher stories are told is that if there is a season 2 and beyond, most of the characters you get to know each season will not return for the next, aside from Reacher and Neagley.

I sure hope that cross between Elisha Cuthbert from the old 24 show and Julia Garner from Ozark returns. She’s nice.

I see now how on the spectrum he is after the second episode. Very nice to see Kristin Kruek again. Some parts were a little predictable, but I really liked the camaraderie between the 3: Roscoe, Reacher and Finley. And I liked how much shit he gave Finley for no reason other than to amuse himself. Finley in love with southern rock.. the whole bit with .38 Special And I wanted to see more of a fight with KJ at the end, but really didn't get to see that happen. Dawson was surprisingly more of a badass than KJ.

Really good chemistry between the three leads.

Loved the banter between Reacher and Finley.

Solid action series (if not a bit campy).

Heres hoping for a season two.

FYI - the detective's name is Finlay, not Finley.

I'm 5 eps. in and it's fantastic so far. Having read maybe 10 of the books, I don't think of Reacher as "on the spectrum" as much as just a very unique character created by L. Child, and the show feels true to the books in terms of Reacher. There are so many books/plots they could keep this series going a long, long time, and I like the fact that each is pretty much a standalone. Hopefully it does well.

Re: Reacher (Amazon) - based on the Lee Child novels - S: Alan Ritchson - premieres 2/4/22

Reacher isn’t on the spectrum. Background Child provides in the books do flashbacks that better detail why he is the way he is. He’s observant and then some. If you all dug this season and don’t mind reading, the Reacher books are quite entertaining.

For me, this is pretty much every level of what I was hoping the show could achieve. Ritchson is definitely the character and everyone else had a good presence. It all worked really well. A bit silly at times? Yep, but that’s Child’s mind, not the writers of this show. Based on reviews and word of mouth, it would be silly for Amazon to not make another season at the very minimum. After all, they have 28 books of material.

Just finished bingeing it and it was a lot of fun. Man, when he busts out those forearms on peoples faces, it is on!

The "bicep beer cap removal" was also entertaining.

I'm saving these for a binge after some upcoming dental work. As a long time Reacher reader I must say these previews look great.

At that height the only pants you can buy in a store are going to be floods. In that regard Tom Cruise made more sense since he could just shop in the kids section at Walmart.

Freak.

Yep, we are freaks. I'm only 6'2", but with good posture and 300 pounds I'm usually the most imposing person in the room and am used to people making way as I approach.
Mug makes a good point about the clothes, though. Not every store is going to have pants on the rack with a 36 inch inseam. I have trouble finding 14EE shoes, for sure. From what I recall in the books, Reacher's feet are only like size 12 available in any store, though he wears custom handmade shoes from England.

Yeah, I'm closer to 6'2" than 6'1" and about 270lbs... but I wouldldn't call myself imposing (I have younger brothers larger than me)... and yeah, finding clothes is a chore, especially shoes (14-15 depending on the cut). I wish I had Reacher's physique... well, not that bulky.

I'm thinking of starting to read a Reacher book. Should I start with the first one (The Killing Floor)?

Awesome.

Per Amazon, the show is already one of their top five most-watched shows of all time.”

Yep, start with Killing Floor and work through them in published order rather than a researched chronological order. Lee Child drops little tidbits of Reacher's life in a purposeful manner so you can see what made him.

If they have the same show runners and Ritchson putting out the same quality, they have a show that could last easily 5 seasons or more.

Apparently Ritchson wants to do the 2nd book, Die Trying. Not sure how much pull that'd have, they have a lot of material they can cover.

Read that he was passed on with the original casting director and only got it after a shake up and re-audition. That would have been a mistake.

Re: Reacher (Amazon) - based on the Lee Child novels - S: Alan Ritchson - premieres 2/4/22

I’ve read all the Reacher books and love them. They hit enough of the beats for it to work for me. I love that they captured his brutality - he tries to end fights as quickly as possible and they did a good job of this. Ritchson is a beast and did a great job. More personality than he has in the books but it worked for the show.

He travelled a bit too much - most of the time he stays in whatever town he’s in for the story. They kept the bits of him always taking people’s cars and buying new clothes all the time. I was disappointed that he didn’t do my favorite thing, which is press his clothes under the mattress He does it in every book.

One weird thing is that the first Reacher book is written in first person and the rest (except for one other, I think) are in the first person. Never looked into why but it’s unusual.

As for the question of why Reacher’s mom calls him Reacher is just that everyone has always called him Reacher for his whole life.

One of my favorite Reacher traits from the books is how he has an always-accurate internal clock. He always just knows what time it is, within a few minutes. I don't recall him doing that in the show, but maybe next season.
