It’s kind of funny that only a week has passed since the Rue-centric episode, that took place on Christmas Eve, in the show world and the episode aired 13 months ago.
Loved the Fezco backstory and Rue’s “damn” after he beat the shit out of Nate.
Sydney Sweeney this episode

It's official... Zendaya ain't getting naked on this thing even if there's a gun to her head.
Can't believe it took Nate and Cassie twenty minutes to figure out she could just hide in the shower.
And then Maddy wiping her hoo-ha with the washcloth and dropping it in Maddy's face. I thought she'd just hang it back up.
Kind of hoping the blond guy sitting on the toilet would have offered up "But you can give me a blumpkin," after he said "You're hot as hell but I'm still gonna take a shit."
Loved seeing Fezco beat the living shit out of Nate.

Good to see a quality family friendly show back on television.....
Crazy episode much darker than the first season, but very engrossing.
Zendaya does a great job of acting like she is completely wrecked by drugs.

Maybe it's the 2+ year gap in between seasons, but I'm not feeling it this time around. I forgot who the characters are, what they've been though, etc. I also still feel Rue died in Season 1, and this is them trying to continue a story that wasn't meant to be continued.
I'll give it a few more weeks (especially with Yellowjackets ending this weekend).

I don't agree about the death. It was her relapse. This wasn't intended as limited series.
This was from an interview with Sam Levinson after the finale two years ago:

What did you want to convey or want people to take away from that final scene?
I love what people’s interpretations are of it. Rue’s not dead, if that’s the question. I thought it was interesting when I read a piece [about that theory] and loved the piece but I think Rue has a big journey ahead of her, and a tough one. It’s not something I want to cut short because of who Rue means to me as someone who has battled with addiction and come out the other side, and because I think that there’s a lot more to delve into and unpack in terms of the effects of addiction on Rue and on her family and those around her. The possibilities are endless in many ways.
So we can put those “Rue is dead” rumors to rest then?
Yes, Rue is not dead. That I can say for certain.

I was puzzled why the Maude Apatow character was looking at Fezco like he'd done something awful, before the beating.
Fezco's backstory was good. I initially thought the Grandma character was Drea De Matteo, and that it must've been a rough 15 years, since The Sopranos.

It's sort of like "Jackie's movie list" in Yellowjackets, a list of favorite movie characters that is written by a character who supposedly dies in 1996 but lists several movies made after that. The online debate was whether it was deliberate or just an accidental anachronism. Showrunner is claiming the former, but the cynic in me wonders if they're just covering their asses after someone pointed out the error.
Anyway though, I just watched episode 2, and the already-mentioned gap between the seasons is still really hurting things. For the side characters, it's because I no longer remember or care who is dating whom, so love triangles are leaving me bored. But the real issue here is that despite Zendaya's amazing acting (and really, she's good), relapsed Rue is just not very likeable. At all. And since it's been 2 years since we last saw her (the two intermediate episodes aside), we kinda forgot likeable Rue. So I'm not really all that devastated by her relapse anymore nor interested in her becoming sober again.
I'll probably keep watching, not as a "hate watch", but more for how they're still stretching boundaries on the show and that's not easy to do. Unless it becomes shock-for-shock's-sake.

I severely doubt that. I think I'll take the word of the main creative force behind the show. This is an ongoing TV series, not something that was supposed to have an ending after one season based on your own admittingly cynical view.

It's sort of like American Beauty, where Kevin Spacey's character is dead and narrating the story. I think she's probably going to die at the end of the series, and the whole thing where she's playing omniscient narrator is going be her reviewing her life (and her friends' lives) from the afterlife.
I think that the relapse scene from the end of season one could have been taken as a death scene -- it was certainly coded that way -- if the series hadn't been picked up for more seasons.
Sort of like how The Sopranos ended on an ambiguous note, and that's still being debated as to whether or not Tony ate a bullet from Members Only Guy or not.

I suspect that Rue is, in fact, dead.

Whether they were able to use him or not doesn't change the narrative of the scene... it would have still have been the scene. I'm just saying had they got the real person, it wouldn't have really felt true to the world that has been created. He would have felt out of place.

Zendaya is putting in work for that second Emmy.
I was laughing hard at that Fezco / Cal scene.

Zendaya’s great, but the show starts to lose my attention whenever the story focuses back on Rue. I’m dreading this drug dealer arc they have her on.
Ash beating the shit out of Cal was great.

It really helped watching the first season again before starting season two. I didn’t have the issue others had with not remembering people or what had happened, and the story flowed better. That doesn’t help with the Rue unlikeable stuff though. I can’t argue with that.

Cal’s exit was hilarious. “You 2 dickwads can draw straws to see who cleans it up.” “I’ll see you assholes later”
Sydney Sweeney plays a total trainwreck exceptionally well.
The hot tube scene
Rue has become the least interesting character on the show and it’s not close.

Sweeney’s character is like the embodiment of of the saying “don’t stick your dick in crazy.” And also a great representation of why men ignore that warning.
