Why would anyone want to save Star City?

I've been thinking about the show a bit- unlike Gotham where we met some of its needier residents, I can't think of a single episode of Arrow where the team has really interacted with anyone who lived in the city other than police, politicians and criminals.

I was surprised they followed up on that this year. Figured that is how they’d end the show. Interesting.

What a strange way to end the series.

Wait, you say there's another season? Nevermind...

I really dug it, myself. The Monitor's appearance totally brought me back vibes of the original Crisis on Infinite Earth comics and its epic scope, and the final act of this episode was genuinely touching. Amell really doesn't get enough praise for how well he's grown into the role of Oliver Queen over the years. Really interested to see how they wrap it all up next year and if they have the budget/creativity to do something worthy of the original Crisis series on TV. Even through its ups and downs I've usually enjoyed Arrow, but it is time to wind it down. Glad it's getting a decent farewell than just cut off midstream.

As for Emiko, meh. She was a bit of a bust as a big bad (that actress seriously had about 3 facial expressions) and never quite worked for me.

Yeah, Emiko as villain fell flat. The flash-forwards this season never really did anything for me despite having Katherine McNamara.

It looked like Rickards' dye job was already being phased out for her next role when this was being filmed.

I didn't really mind how they handled this episode - it clearly was a send-off to make sure Felicity's fans saw how she finally ended up. The character was a lot better for the show as the quirky computer girl, than when she became a superhacker and derivative rip-off of Oracle.

Still think Amell will end up as The Spectre and do an occasional guest appearance...

Or Pariah and show up to warn the other series' that Crisis is nigh?

This episode seemed self-referential in the sense that we were seeing the actors' feelings about the show come out. I don't recall a series ending that did that in such an explicit way before. (No need to put examples, I'm sure there are many.)

Interesting way
Spoiler:
they wrote EBR out of the show. I thought it tied to the overall plot well
.

I'm not a particular fan of the flash forwards, but I imagine they will be a significant part of the protracted Season 8. I don't see myself watching a spinoff.

If there's one thing about the Arrowverse, they seem to LOVE bringing characters back - so it wouldn't surprise me if we see more of the Green Arrow in other series, esp around crossover time.

Something like that. One of those big overreaching DC characters that we rarely see very often. It's been a while since I read Crisis but I vaguely recall Phantom Stranger (we know who to ask about this ) had a role in it. But Phantom Stranger was a fallen angel or something so Oliver couldn't end up as that character.

Spectre or Pariah makes sense. I'm sure there are a few others we can think of.

Spectre is likely off-limits to the CW. Pariah is an option.

Poor muddled season

This felt like a suitable total finale

no need for another season

I finally finished the season last week. I had 2 episodes left to watch and decided to get to them on Netflix because they're now available on there.

That ending could have worked as a series finale had we not already known about the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. And then The Monitor's appearance at end really enforced that it wasn't over yet.

Unless something changes dramatically, it really does seem that Oliver will be making a sacrifice at the end of the crossover/series run. Oliver "dies" in 2019 according to that tombstone, so something would have to change in the present in order for that 2040 future to never happen including Felicity going into the great unknown at the end to see Oliver.

I guess we'll see. The writer's have their work cut out for them this summer.

Overall, it wasn't a hot garbage season like some here think. I'd give it a C+ The glaring thing that really didn't work that well was Team Arrow working with the SCPD.

I wouldn't call it a garbage season, but it was definitely a show going through the motions and knowing the end was near. I would have broken Oliver and Felicity up this year for maximum drama, maybe even a little cheating, but they had to pander to Felicity's vocal fanbase. I also thought the characters they came up with for the future flashes were lame. We'll flip each gender's strength from one generation to the next - Oliver's son will be the computer genius, while his daughter becomes some super ninja. I would have loved to hear the producer's meeting discussing their creation.
