This is a documentary shot by two guys who were part of the cleanup crew in 1986. It's literally episode 4 of the HBO miniseries, but this is the real footage. Amazing.

Watched ep3 last night. Some tough scenes to watch when the guys in the hospital. I'm glad we waited for all to air before starting. I wouldn't want to wait a week for each new episode.

I can't say I'm looking forward to the eradication of life that's coming in ep4.

Finished it up over the weekend. Sooooo good. The breakdown of everything that happened was amazing.

I think Boris flipping out on the phone cause they gave Germany the "propaganda number" for the radiation level was my favorite part in the series. "We need another phone." LOL

Saw a piece on CNN on how there been a rise on tourists visited Chernobyl after it became a big hits on HBO. Pretty crazy people want to go there despite the radiation level a little low, I for for one could never set foot at that ghost town.

wow, just wow. Finally got around to watching this series this week and I have to say it was very well done. Its a shame some of the story is so wrong (helicopter crash, Firefighters baby dying etc) but it was pretty riveting. Would defiately recommend this one to anyone that is interested in the subject. I do agree it was nice to see it was not a propaganda piece for the US or USSR and seemed pretty balanced in its portrayal. I really wanted to see upper management shot at the end and the voice of the curly haired guy got under my skin for some reason...

The scenes where you could hear the Geiger counter increasing in intensity as the workers approached radioactive materials must've been influenced by the Fallout video games.

I just started watching this, and that scene was incredibly well done. I even felt my heart rate go up while watching it!

I was 6 when this happened, and I remember as a kid being freaked out by nuclear power and radiation. I actually live about equidistant to two nuclear power plants and always feared a meltdown as a kid. I was even scared of microwaves because back then people would "nuke" their food. To this day I still have dreams my microwave turns on with the door open, spewing radiation all over

The helicopter that crashed was due to it hitting a hanging chain and had nothing to do with the exposed core/radiation. It also happened many months after the accident and not soon after as was portrayed.

Just watched the first episode Tough watch. Couple of my friends love the show but it's not something I am that excited to keep watching

If you aren't paying attention you'll mis it, but the helicopter does hit a chain from a crane (and severs it) in the show as well.


The viewer is left with the distinct impression that the radiation caused the crash, but that's not what's on screen, where poor visibility seems to be the problem. The timing is definitely off though.

I think the point is that the radiation level was so strong it more or less rendered the crew incapable of being able to respond or control the helicopter which allowed it to drift into an obviously visible chain and crash.

Are there any other details from the historical account and how it played out? If not, I don't know that it can be presumed that the show got it wrong. They didn't do a lot of dramatization unnecessarily.

A bit late to the party but I finally finished up the Series this morning.

Bleak & upsetting but one of the best TV shows I've seen in recent memory.

The Final Episode was absolutely mesmerizing.
