Re: Bosch (Amazon) -- Season 5 Thread -- premieres 4/19/19

Thought Season 5 was good, but not as strong as Season 5. There didn't really seem any mysteries or real police work it was all just so straightforward. Still, looking forward to season 6.

Definitely 4k according to my Apple TV, but it has the regular Amazon banner in the upper left corner of the thumbnail. This is for the version of Bosch in the “Prime 4k” section, the other Bosch in the regular Prime TV section is still 1080p.

Re: Bosch (Amazon) -- Season 5 Thread -- premieres 4/19/19

Another solid season.
still need to finish the last episode .

Minor spoiler
Spoiler:
I had a strong feeling Bosch would be reunited with the dog he fed and saved from that one drug dealer out in desert .
You do not shoot a dog, it is bad luck, or something like that. LOL

Surprise to see Opie .He killed his part, really like all the cast in Bosch.

Good season, but something was missing. No sense of mystery or a memorable and scary antagonist. Still, I enjoyed it. Only thing I could do without is anything involving Maddie.

Agreed, she adds very little to the story. Even this time when
Spoiler:
she sent the memo to the lawyer
I'm not sure it made that big of a difference.
2 days to go thru this season. That's pretty typical. I couldn't start until yesterday so I stayed far from here in case there were spoilers.

Has anyone else been bothered by the crushed blacks in the UHD version?

Re: Bosch (Amazon) -- Season 5 Thread -- premieres 4/19/19

Finished this season last night.

If I hadn't read the book, I believe it would have been difficult to follow.
One too many sidebars going on IMO.

Also, I don't recall another season where
Spoiler:
an ending episode leaves the main Harry storyline open for the next season.

Enjoyed the grownup Maddie following after her Daddy in the Bosch Way.
As usual, it will be a long wait for me until the next season.

Another awesome season.

Re: Bosch (Amazon) -- Season 5 Thread -- premieres 4/19/19

While I don't think this season was as fantastic as previous seasons, it was still damn good television. As soon as Bosch got the dog, I knew it would save him. Also, any show that uses Deftones music automatically gets bumped up a couple of notches. Great use of the acoustic version of BQAD to close out the season.

I am glad they didn't get rid of Crate and Barrel. Well needed comic relief for the show.

I thought the same.
Edgar is staying alive a lot longer than he did in the novels.

I also agree Crate and Barrel are an integral part of the show.

Re: Bosch (Amazon) -- Season 5 Thread -- premieres 4/19/19

Just finished this. Pretty amazing season. I actually find myself liking each season more than the previous, and that's saying something. I do like it better now that Bosch & Edgar are back to friends.
Loved it when Bosch
Spoiler:
killed those three guys in his house, and his only concern was finding his dog.
Just overall superb TV.

Certainly this is the finest series of its genre available today.

What other series of its genre is available today? Crime noir isn't much of a thing these days.

Re: Bosch (Amazon) -- Season 5 Thread -- premieres 4/19/19

Once again, I found this season to be entertaining, even though cop dramas aren't normally my thing. I had to suspend disbelief that Bosch is able to kill 5 suspects, yet isn't placed on paid leave while its investigated (but I guess that wouldn't provide for suspenseful television).

The storylines involving his daughter are easily the weakest part of this show.

I'm a little behind on the novels and on this show, but last I knew,
Spoiler:
Edgar is still alive in the novels. He just doesn't appear as much as he used to...

Re: Bosch (Amazon) -- Season 5 Thread -- premieres 4/19/19

Spoiler:
That is correct, he's alive and not a cop anymore in the books, he is in the book that this season was based on helping Bosch as he's now working with some agency that regulates pharmacies

The people that greatly outlived their book counterparts are

Spoiler:
Crate and Barrel who died in, I believe, the first book.

I really enjoyed Bad Blood on Netflix. Stars Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy). It's about the Canadian Mafia and the 1st season is based on a true story. The 2nd season they took a little more Hollywood license. The 3rd season is due out late 19 or early 20.

That was Lewis and Clarke.

Spoiler:
Honey Chandler
has survived long past the character's book fate.

Just finished this season. Didn't really grab me as much as prior seasons. Honestly, I was fairly bored and quit paying attention to all of the other cop subplot scenes, and even Harry's story line didn't really grab me this year....the trial was more interesting than the pharmacy murders. Nothing ever really seemed to tie together.

Re: Bosch (Amazon) -- Season 5 Thread -- premieres 4/19/19

For those interested, the new Harry Bosch novel dropped yesterday at Amazon.
It's called "The Night Fire."
Can be had now for 17 bucks.

Re: Bosch (Amazon) -- Season 5 Thread -- premieres 4/19/19

spoiler tag for the most recent published book, The Night Fire, and therefore potentially a show spoiler at some point

Spoiler:
Well interesting that The Night Fire gave (or potentially) gave Bosch cancer from the events of The Overlook, and more interesting that Season 6 is reportedly adapting elements of Dark Sacred Night and The Overlook. It was 12 years (in publishing time) for the cancer to show up... I'm not sure what the realistic time frame for that level of exposure to cause cancer is... could Season 7 see Bosch get a diagnosis and end up going out in a blaze of glory?
