This ep seemed very dark, film wise, had to switch my settings to torch mode...

I had that problem with my old set, and it was one of the series that provoked me to get a big 4K set. Now I don't have those problems....

Great start, but only 5 episodes left?

Lots of storylines opened up.
The most important, of course, is Snow as Dany's nephew.
How will that work out?
This will be the determining factor of who eventually gains the Iron Throne.

What are the new images on the gold band during the credit? I couldnt tell what they were.

Also, in the show is Dickon supposed to be Sam's older brother? On the after show thing they said he was Sam's older brother but in the book he's Sam's younger brother.

That had to be a fuck up by the after show hosts. He's definitely his younger brother, both in the books and show. I think they got him confused since Dickon was the heir to House Tarly since Sam, the eldest, is a member of the Night's Watch and is not allowed to hold any lands or titles.

Mac from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia had a quick cameo in last night's episode.

The show used to have some very clever dialog, and now so much of it is so cringe-inducing...

- "She is the smartest person i have met"
- "I am going to put a prince in your belly"
- "Then keep your queen warm"
- "Did you bend the knee because you love her?"

Fucking yikes!

Come on man.

Ok, please re-wrte these lines as YOU seem to think they should have been. All those lines worked in the context of their scenes.

Agreed. I think Bronn is smart enough to realize this. But who knows...

I guess Rob McElhenney from Always Sunny and Martin Starr from Silicon Valley both cameoed last night as guards killed during the rescue of Yara.

Definitely looks like Rob. Makes sense given the history with the two shows.

What the fuck kind of thing is this to say? I'm not a professional writer nor employed by HBO to write the fucking show like they are! And like I said, they used to be able to write better dialog, but now they've just gotten lazy after upping the effect budget to dazzle and distract people from the piss poor dialog.

I found some dialog rather bland as well. The balls jokes between Tyrion and Varys fell flat and these two normally have me rolling. I actually laughed at the dragon riding scene, I'm like woahhh we're in Avatar!

Overall not bad, not great, just good (*** out of *****).

Anyone seen Podrick?

Just sayin'. The critique is weird. Maybe it's more about you guys being burned out on a show that's been on for several seasons. I can't remember any earlier season lines or jokes that were any better than the ones in this ep. And I'm betting neither can you...

I'm sad it looks like Arya is going to have a nothing ending to the story. All she went through and trained for and now she's just the little sister back at Winterfell who will probably just spy around but not have any major part in what's to come.

The meeting of Sansa and Tyrion was lack-luster as well. That could have been a big scene.

Neither Benioff or Weiss wrote this episode.

I did really like the exchange between Sansa and Tyrion.

Yea, I thought that was interesting. It is the only premiere episode they didn't write.

Re: Game of Thrones (S8E01) -- Season Premiere -- "Winterfell" -- 4/14/19

The more I think about it, the more I'm starting to feel like this season will be excellent TV but a poor and not-worthy ending to the story I've been reading/watching for decades. All of the nuance of the people and relationships is going to boil down to "giant battle with ice zombies; yay, the two most popular characters are now your king/queen riding on dragons; pull curtain."

I'm starting to think about all of the side stories and plot lines which will go unanswered or unresolved because of the quick wrap-up.

The quality has been this way since the moment they surpassed the books and can no longer pull dialog written by GRRM.

To me the exchange was more low key because Sansa seemed to be more disappointed in Tyrion. That's why I thought it worked. I didn't expect some huge blow up.

I was actually thinking the other direction. Not a blow up; they could have shown some compassion for what each other have been through with maybe a joke or two about their marriage.

There is no chance that is true.

That's exactly what I was thinking when reading the criticism. When people talk about their favorite their favorite lines from the show, they were almost always ripped straight from the books. The people running this show always gave off a very ham-fisted vibe to me.
