60's ep was pretty good. again, nothing we haven't seen before. all the classics of the 60's of course. Sidney, Clint, Wayne, Dustin, Paul, all the good ones. loved they mentioned Romero and NotLD.

The 60's not a decade with all of my favorite movies.
Planet of the Apes, Butch and Sundance, and 2001 are probably my favorites and the few movies I own from that decade.
I never heard of Beckett.
One day I will watch West Side Story on my DVR.
I was shocked Roger Corman was still alive at 93.
Hard to believe this is going to end next week.

The last episode is going to cram 3 decades or more in to 2 hours. ugh.

I was surprised to see Italian films appear (Two of the Dollars trilogy and Once/West which, to be fair, was an American co-production) and I was stoked that Hud got a segment.

This is apparently a situation where PS Vue service fails. The 60s didn’t air, so the recording was prompted news service.
I figured - no problem! - I’ll navigate to On Demand. While the series was listed, Ias soon as I selected the series, all of the available episodes said DVR. Once I hit play, it cycled back to the DVR recording.

I don't think there will be a time in Hollywood again where the directors and actors will have all the power again and not the studios.
That is too bad since the last time that happened was in the 70's and now studios care more about box office receipts than artistic quality.

I wonder if there will be a decade series in 2020 since whatever you call this decade 2010-2019 is going to end soon?

So we're covering three decades in two hours, -what movies do they cover? Do you start with "The Jazz Singer", the first "Talkie" (though it would only get a mention). "Casablanca", "Gone With The Wind" ,"Wizard of Oz" are obvious choices. Do you mention "It's A Wonderful Life", which according to legend was a flop in theaters and became beloved on Television. And key to this episode is that pretty much no one watching saw any of the films mentioned in first run, -it's entirely about movies on Televsion (and, eventually, other means).
Added: "King Kong" definitely will be mentioned.
I would think the Atomic Bomb scare-related SF films of The Fifties will get a segment, particularly "The Day The Earth Stood Still" which is a "Message" film, though they might throw in glimpses of the other giant insect films.

There has to be mention of the pre-code films (My money's on Baby Face getting the spotlight)

They didn't bring up the congressional hearings and advent of the ratings system at all. However, they did go over the changes in filmmaking that brought about the ratings system quite well. Midnight Cowboy was released as X and won best picture as an X rated movie. I believe it was resubmitted years later and changed to R without any changes.

It is officially over. That went by quick.
Only towards the end of the Golden Age did you see movies that were not 4:3 anymore.
Funny how people back then thought sound would ruin movies

Still haven't been able to watch the 60's episode - keeping getting errors through the CNN app. Anyone else watch it that way?

If you have Directv or cable just wait and checking the listings until they repeat that episode again

I don't really care for John Wayne but maybe I should check out the Searchers if Spielberg praised it.

^I can't be sure, but it seemed like Liberty Valance received the most time out of ALL the movies!

Re: The Movies (CNN Series) coming in July 2019 -- EP: Tom Hanks
60s ended up working finally.
The more of these we watch, it’s just weird watching them backward. It’s clear they work linearly, since they’re referencing points that end up getting addressed in subsequent decades.
Its also interesting to hear these actors and directors praising films you’ve never seen (but maybe heard of). Yet they look so slow and boring. I suppose it could be the equivalent of somebody in 40-50 years praising the Matrix as a film that got them into directing. Except, by that point (if not by today) it’ll seem so antiquated.
Anyhow, we only have Golden Age left. Went by so quickly. They could have done a summer on each decade.

We held off watching for this reason. Now that we have them all recorded we plan on watching them chronologically. It sounds like airing them out of order was a disservice to the audience. I can only guess they were afraid they wouldn't grab an audience if they started off with those B&W old-timey things.
