^I was surprised at the lack of horror too. You would think the Rockstar status of Jason and Freddy would get some mention, but those characters thrived on their franchises...Not really a singular film--Which is what this show seems to focus on.

Ragtime was the only movie (Briefly) shown that I haven't seen yet.

I was mostly pleased that Oliver Stone got a mini-segment. He was the filmmaker who's work I was looking forward to the most circa '86-'97.

1st episode was great.

Sad to see that it was also John Singleton's last on camera interviews. It was nice to see a little In Memory of John Singleton at the end.

They covered a lot in 2 hour and got some good interviews. Not really surprised they skipped horror. 1980s Horror alone could be a 2 hour episode.

It was good though I zoned out when they covered Working Girl, 9 to 5, and When Harry Met Sally.

Maybe they could have spent a little more time on Robocop and Escape from New York.

I think they skipped the Karate Kid, Heathers, and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure?

A list of movies to watch after you watch the 80's episode.

I donít think any of those 3 should have been mentioned. Maybe KK for a second, but the others 2 never...

They could have gotten some more movies in if they didn't repeat the segments from the Eighties Movie episode

Damn I want to see this. I loved all the decades series. Where does a cord cutter find this? I know the others eventually wound up on Netflix.

Speaking of WHMS, I still remain pissed how Stand By Me continues to take a faaar backseat to the coverage that WHMS and (Especially) Princess Bride always gets. Spinal Tap (Even though it no longer generates laughs from me) gets a pass from me due to its revolutionary (And highly influential) tactics.

Btw, I wouldíve loved to have heard Michael Mann talk more about SCARFACE!

I was a bit surprised to realize that Rob Reiner churned out so many memorable movies in such a short period (even "Misery" was 1990) and then very little that's made a lasting impression.

Reiner has a solid streak of all-timers.

Was able to see this through the CNNgo app. Fantastic episode. I agree though more should have been said about horror movies though maybe a future episode will cover multiple decades of horror.

The decade series never covered movies and Hanks said the licensing fees were too much and they always intented to do it as a separate series.

Maybe off topic but will they do a sports series in the future since they were not covered in the decade series?

I tried watching the first episode but since I have Directv the picture had to keep freezing every 15 seconds.

Iíve got the first episode on the DVR. Would you say this is fairly spoiler free if you havenít seen every movie or are there things to look out for if you have some gaps in your viewing history?

Incredibly solid 2nd episode. I’ve been pleased and surprised by all the remarks PTA has been doing so far. I hope he receives a similar amount of screentime for the remaining episodes.

Halfway through the 90’s episode I mentioned to my wife that like half of what they’d shown so far was Tom Hanks movies. Thread title puts that into perspective.

I have never heard PTA talk or do interviews before this series.

Julia Roberts movies a staple of the 90's and glad that era is over.

Re: The Movies (CNN Series) coming in July 2019 -- EP: Tom Hanks

No mention of Scent of a Woman and Pacino's first Oscar and Donnie Brasco?

Phanton Menace got only a minor mention though we know it was not a great movie but a segment on the hype for that movie since it was the biggest thing in 1999.

Bruckheimer movies were really popular in the 90's and could have gotten a mention.

He has a good interview on the Bill Simmons podcast from probably six or so months ago.

Re: The Movies (CNN Series) coming in July 2019 -- EP: Tom Hanks

These episodes literally make me want to watch every movie they show. Maybe I just love the 80s and 90s too much.

I expect the prequels will be mentioned in a segment from the 2000s that talks about the full rise of CGI blockbusters like the Matrix sequels, Harry Potter, LOTR, the first X-Men and Spidey movies, etc.

Yeah, the drop off is pretty steep after North. Although The American President is a pretty good one.
