The show shifts directions pretty dramatically and you do get a lot of answers to questions raised from both this season and season 1, but they left a few threads open for round 3 as shows tend to do.

We do get a lot of explanations for some of the mysteries of season 1. The boundaries of the story are greatly expanded. What we saw in season 1 was just a glimpse of the bigger 'truth' that is further revealed in season 2.

Season 2 dives deep into the New Age-y spiritualism to the point of absurdity at times. But the overall "good vs. bad" conflict between the heroes and the villain is what grounds the story and it is still pretty compelling, in my opinion.

I got a bit of a David Lynch vibe from the tone of season 2. Just kind of weirdly unsettling at times--but in a good way--even during relatively mundane scenes.
