Man that fucking sucks, average survival rate among all ages for stage iv pancreatic is two to six months (hopefully he's one of the 3% that makes it five years.)

I hope he makes it, but unfortunately pancreatic cancer is the second most lethal cancer (only brain stem tumors are more lethal, having a 0% survival rate), plus his age makes the "pray chemo kills the cancer before it kills you" equation iffy at best.

That's terrible. He's my favorite television personality. Jeopardy is the only television show I watch even close to regularly.

Absolutely horrible news. I can't even imagine Jeopardy! without him.

You heard him say it he has to host Jepodary for another three years. I hope he can beat the odds but the chances are not good.

Sad news.

I have a good friend who recently passed away after a similar battle.

Awful, awful news. Advanced pancreatic cancer is the ultimate killer. Turns on all your digestive enzymes, turbo-charged. Basically you dissolve your internal organs. It's what killed Patrick Swayze and Michael Landon.
I LOVE Trebek. That's devastating news.

Jeopardy! has been a tv staple for me since the 80's. I can't imagine not seeing Trebek on tv while cooking dinner. This is terrible news.

My mom died from stage 4 pancreatic in 2015. She died almost a year to the day after being diagnosed. She responded really well to the treatment at first and she made the most of her last year but the last few weeks it just took over so quickly.

re: Alex Trebek diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer [Update: Dead at 80]

A colleague of mine was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer almost 2 years ago. After intense treatment it went into remission, but then it came back. He's still working, but I saw him a few weeks ago and he didn't look good at all. He's around 60-something, but looks like he's aged 20 years, has lost all his hair due to chemo and I would say has dropped 30-40 pounds since he was healthy. I'm sad to see his health deteriorate so fast. I hope he can make it through the summer, but it doesn't look great.

Terrible news. My Wife's Grandmother was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer in November 2017. Sadly after seven months of fighting this awful disease, she passed away in June of last year. I hope Trebek can get through it, but the odds are not in his favor.

I remember watching an interview with The Cars when Benjamin Orr was very ill from pancreatic cancer. It was heartbreaking to watch.

I really thought Alex would go on forever. He looks so healthy for 78. Hopefully he defies the odds.

re: Alex Trebek diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer [Update: Dead at 80]

Alex must have been experiencing some of the symptoms so that's why he got it checked it and got the grim diagnosis. It's just scary hearing it and not knowing your future.

He didn't look sick in the video, but I'm sure it was another symptom that caused concern for him.

When my colleague was diagnosed, people started noticing the jaundice in his eyes and that was a major red flag.

Definetly sad news!! He's a staple on Jeapordy just like Bob Barker was with TPIR. I know he was going to retire in a few years. Hopefully he can make it healthy through his last three yeats, but it doesn't sound good. Can't imagine who'll they'll replace him with when he retires or passes. I wonder if they'll play around with having a few different people be the host for a few weeks at a time and see if anyone stands out. Wonder if they would give Ken Jennnings a shot as he's pretty synonymouswith the show and seems to be on it nearly as much as Alex Trebek.

The entire family always went to my Wife's grandmother's house for Thanksgiving. When we got there, her skin was as yellow as a character from The Simpsons. We all knew something was wrong, but had no idea it was this bad. She went to the doctor the Monday after Thanksgiving and was told she had stage four pancreatic cancer. The doctors only gave her three weeks to live, but she was a tough old bird and lived for seven months. It's still hard to believe she's gone.

My heart goes out to Trebek and his family. This type of cancer destroys the human body in ways I have never seen before.

Being a contestant is a completely different skillset than being a host. The host has a big influence on the tone of a show even if nothing else changes. I quit watching Washington Week when Gwen Ifill died.

Alex has to keep the game moving very fast, be likeable when he rules against someone, take direction invisibly, and make a quiz show fun for viewers to watch. He will be tough to replace.
