I wonder if they might try a variety of people before settling on someone -- switch it around like guest conductors for the seventh-inning stretch at Cubs games when Harry Caray died.

I know Alec Baldwin was campaigning for this a while ago, talked on Stern how it was a dream job. I like the idea of Ken Jennings, his history with the show and friendly demeanor are pluses.

Kinda sad that everyone is throwing out ideas for a replacement as if it's a given. Understandable, but still very sad.

It sucks. Pancreatic cancer is a cruel monster. And my doctor explained why people don't catch it earlier - your pancreas is hidden behind other organs, so it's almost impossible to screen for it.

The original host of Jeopardy died from the same illness.
Art Fleming, Alex Trebek’s ‘Jeopardy’ Predecessor, Died From Same Illness 2 Weeks After Diagnosis

Jeopardy will never be the same without Trebek.

Here's an encouraging video from Trebek:
Great news, Jeopardyfans: Alex Trebek says he’s “feeling good” — and is already thinking about returning for next season. https://tvline.com/2019/04/17/alex-t...-cancer-video/

A friend was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in January 2012 (after he was initially diagnosed as a diabetic, which he technically was as a result). After the cancer was discovered, he immediately had the Whipple procedure to remove much of his pancreas. Seven years later he's still with us, his scans are clean. Since 2012, every day he wakes up and opens his eyes has been a gift to both him and his wife.

Alex was on Good Morning America today, speaking to Robin Roberts about his health.
In his first live interview since revealing his stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis earlier this year, host Alex Trebek stopped by "GMA" Wednesday morning to update fans on his ongoing health battle."People all over America have been sharing their good thoughts, their advice, their prayers," he said. "And I feel it's been making a difference."
Trebek was honest about the lows Wednesday morning as well, explaining that though "my oncologist tells me I'm doing well," because of his chemotherapy treatment, he often has "surges of deep, deep sadness, and it brings tears to my eyes.""I'm fighting through it," he said. "My platelets are steady, my blood counts are steady, my weight is steady."
He added that his cancer indicator numbers are starting to go down and he'll be doing chemo again next week, followed by a review of his status. "You have to deal with it. What am I gonna do?" he said. "It's something I am afflicted with, we are dealing with it chemically and spiritually, and those are positive. Hopefully everything is going to turn out well and I'll be back on the air with original programming this September."

love his positive attitude, but he's right... what else is he going to do.
I'm surprised he's going to keep working. I think I'd use the little time I have left to travel the world, work on the bucket list. I mean, the guy is worth > $50million dollars... but then again, if you do that, you concede defeat in some respect.

no, I get it... it might even keep him alive longer to have a reason to get up in the morning, but I dunno… travel the globe, spend time with friends and family... it would be tempting to just retire.

My mother-in-law died from Pancreatic cancer a few years ago. She lasted 6 weeks after she was diagnosed.
A coworker of mine was diagnosed with it last year. He was jaundice and looked horrible, but he is just about to be listed as in remission by Moffitt Cancer Center, so who knows what will happen. Odds are horrible with Pancreatic Cancer though. Steve Jobs couldn't beat it even with all his millions for medical treatment.

My Mom's sister was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in March of this year. She was 90 years old & decided not get any treatment. Six weeks later she was gone.
I have been taking care (24/7) of my Mom who has Alzheimer. We have decided not to tell her about her sister passing away. She did not take it to well when she found
out her brother passed away about 6 months ago. Everyone we talked to agreed that was the best thing to do.

One of my co-workers was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer 2 years ago. He underwent surgery/chemo and it was in remission. But, it came back like a hurricane last year. He went back on chemo and the last time I saw him in late February he looked like hell. He's 60-something and has lost probably 40 pounds since he was last healthy and has lost all his hair. It apparently got bad enough where he finally had to stop working. I hope he can make it through the summer, but it looked grim the last time I saw him.
Seeing Alex Trebek's interview from GMA, he still looks pretty good.
