The Orville (S2E08/E09) -- "Identity, Parts 1 & 2" -- 2/21 & 2/28/19

Wow. Shit just got real.

I feel like I just watched "Best of Both Worlds, Pt.1". Are Isaac's people the Borg of The Orville?

Yeah... didn't see that coming at all.

Yikes.

All of this time we assumed that Isaac was Data with his serial number filed off, but he’s been a Borg infiltrator the whole time.

Now that we know the Kaylons are genocidal expansionists, I wonder what means for Isaac’s future on the show.

Damn, I really warmed up to him...

My prediction: the kids are going to have Isaac have a change of heart and he turns against his people to save the Orville. Then he has to stay with them as he is a man with no country after that.

Good episode.
Iím wondering if Paramount is just waiting for the season to end before it filed any lawsuits. That way they donít have to amend it every week.

Wow. Great episode. I didn't see this coming at all, so I was completely surprised by it.

I'll make a wild - and probably wrong - guess about the next part, but...
Spoiler:

...I think joining the Union WAS honestly on the table but the Kaylon considered multiple options - (1) join the Union (2) don't join the Union and stay isolated (3) war against the Union to expand - and option #3 was chosen. Once an option is chosen, there's no dissent and every Kaylon backs it up. So I think Isaac will be influenced by the Orville crew in Part 2 and become a dissenter, maybe the first in Kaylon history. And he will get the rest of Kaylon beings to reconsider the decision and call off the war, and maybe even convince the rest of the Kaylon to join the Union as the most logical decision - a decision once made, there will be no dissent.

(spoiler tagged just in the odd chance I guessed anything right)

That was pretty intense. And probably a wet dream for adherents to the idea of a Singularity coming at some point.

I think Isaac was sincere when he was on the Orville. The Kaylons could have originally programmed him to be accepting, etc. in order to maximize the humans' trust in him, which gave him the ability to gather more data because everyone liked and trusted him.

When he went back to the planet they did something to his processing unit and he came out a changed "man." I think Isaac was being sincere when he was with the doctor's family. All that changed after the Kaylons got their hands on him.

How they discovered the skeletons was beyond stupid. What kind of Three Stooges security does the Orville have that an 8 year old kid can exit the ship without being noticed?

The Kaylons aren't much better, two Kaylons had the kid in plain sight when he was running away from them and they didn't notice, and the shaft opening time was awfully convenient.

Yea i gave them that they wanted them to bring whole ship down as they had this plan of not letting them go the entire time.

Hugh...I mean Isaac will save them!

Well there goes any pretense of this being a comedy at all. All the comedy elements in this episode seemed really out of place. (I did like the Bortus wanting the corner bit).

They felt more like Cybermen than Borg to me. I like the plot line, been very pleased with this show.

Maybe they should have revealed that Isaac comes from a planet populated by flatulent, alcoholic robots

I thought the comedy was solid in this episode and not at all out of place. Bortus/cake was good, but I particularly like the mom/stereo bit.

Solid sci-fi. I also thought it was stupid the kid could just exit the ship.

 looking forward to part two.

Not only the part about the kid just exiting the ship, but if the robots were so advanced why didn't they notice there was a a human wandering around their planet right away?

I think it will go this way.. However I think they will search for him and not find him because he'll be transformed on the holodeck (whatever they call it in this series) as a human. Or something like that..Not sure how they are going to stop him from being "disabled" again though.. perhaps someone will figure out how to block the signal or reprogram him.

Methinks Isaac planned the whole drop the paper thing. It is already on Orville's side.

That paper drop was out of place. I thought something was going to be up as soon as he did that as well.

Hundreds of years in the future, humanity has always evolved past the need for common area toilets and trash cans.
