Season 2 trailer! Fair warning: it shows a lot of stuff, not sure how much is spoilery.

I had heard about this but never seemed interested in it. Starved for content, I decided to check it out. Holy shit this is a good show. Very fun, good cast, interesting premise. Some of the special effects are very well done. I am definitely in for S2.

I think Klaus may be my favorite character. Very Johnny Depp vibe to him.

God I hate Sinatra's My Way in things. That it's generally used ironically doesn't help much.

Gonna binge S01 again before S02, pretty excited.

^Sorry about that, I've edited the post to avoid spoiling anyone else just starting the series.

I'm enjoying season 2 just as much as season 1. I've got a few more episodes left, and then I'll post some thoughts.

No worries. I didnít mean to call you out. I donít know exactly if/when that plot point is revealed in season 1, so Iím not sure exactly how much of a spoiler it actually is.

Netflix is fucking awful about it. They release shows and basically say "Good luck!". Most of them don't even show up on the main page initially.

Re: The Umbrella Academy (Netflix) -- based on the comic -- premieres 2/15/19

Spoilers for Season 2 in this post!

I thought this season was really good and I will probably watch it again soon to fully absorb everything. Right now I'd say it's better than season 1.

This show in season 1 already had kind of a retro feel to it, so setting season 2 in the 60s makes sense and lets them fully embrace that aesthetic. It also allows them to deal with social issues that are, unfortunately, still very relevant today--like racism and homophobia--as a reminder of how long we've been struggling with the concept of equality. I imagine some viewers will feel that this aspect of the show is too 'in your face' but I think it would be unrealistic not to have these characters (Allison and Vanya especially) dealing directly with the bigotry they would experience in that time.

Plot-wise, things are a lot more complicated this season, with even more interaction with The Commission and with the main characters spread far and wide for a while before coming together. The Kennedy assassination being the axis upon which the future of the world depends is an obvious choice, but well-handled by focusing on the 'behind-the-scenes' actions. I'm still a bit confused about the role of the two Number Fives and the briefcase during that pivotal moment, though I did like how they tied it to Five's arrival in season 1. Hopefully a rewatch will clear it up.

Regarding the characters: I was pretty disappointed about Hazel. I thought he was kind of a fan-favorite from season 1 so I was surprised by the brevity of his role in season 2. I liked Lila and her relationship with Diego and I did not see the twist coming with her character toward the end. It was also cool that Ben had a more prominent role, though I guess he will not return. I also really liked the original Grace ("Mom") and how they showed her background with Reginald and Pogo. Klaus, as always, was a lot of fun.

The actor who plays the young Number Five is incredible--this show doesn't work without him and he pulls it off perfectly.

The music this season was terrific. I especially loved the Swedish version of Adele's "Hello".

The nature of the "children's" powers are still a bit mysterious. We know Reginald is an alien and that he searched for these (and the other) special kids. We see Vanya somehow transfer some of her power to the boy, and then later take it back (but not all of it, apparently). I hope this is explored some more in a future season.

Nice final twist in the last scene. Will this be something they have to 'fix' in season 3?

Re: The Umbrella Academy (Netflix) -- based on the comic -- premieres 2/15/19

I watched half the first season when it came out, but as is usually the case, other things came up and i didnt get back to it for a while. So noticed the secons season came on recently and decided to finish off the first and binge the second. Second season was stronger than the first, and the first was really enjoyable.

I do love all the characters on this and the actors are great, with the exception of Ellen Page. I have always found her to be a terrible actress and i didnt feel this changed my opinion. I also get the feeling that the whole gay subplot was not in the comic series (never read it). I get what they were doing and why, but it felt so shoe horned into the story that it felt very out of place. They could have fine tuned it better to fit.

As much as i love Klaus, for me the star player is the kid who plays Number 5. He is superb throughout and does a great job in conveying an old guy in a kids body. Even the way he walks is hilarious. I was a fan of Tom Hopper from Black Sails and he does a sound job with probably the hardest character (other than Ben) to play.

I guessed the ending for the final show, even weirdly to the name of the new Academy, but still liked where they left it. Very much looking forward to season 3.

Re: The Umbrella Academy (Netflix) -- based on the comic -- premieres 2/15/19

Just finished season 1. Iíll start season 2 in the next few days.

I enjoyed it for the most part. Iím not sure about the siblingsí powers though. They all seem to be variations of mild powered fuck-ups but I guess thatís kind of the point. I get the sense that none of them have reached their true potential yet.

The kid who plays Number 5 is awesome. Itís always impressive when a child actor can hold his own against adult actors, much less surpass them. Iíd like to see that kid as Robin in a live action Batman and Robin flick!

Just finished it and enjoyed it. Like that they chose the time travel version where their actions did have an impact and in this case, yoiks!

He's about to turn 17 ... I guess that is technically still a "child actor" ...

Yeah, he really nails the "older than he looks" thing. He looks like a kid, but you completely buy that he's a middle-aged man in that body.

5 is the best character in S2. Love Klaus in S1, though. I agree about Ellen Page. She just isn't good. I love how all the time travel stuff affects everything else. I really hope they figure out a way to bring Kate Walsh back. she is also great in this.

I mean when was this filmed? He probably was.

We just got through Season 2 - I love the continued vibe of ďwhat if the X-Men kind of hated each other and fucked up more than they saved?Ē

Everyone had great moments in this season. Some of the protests and rioting with Allison showed that yeah, we really havenít come very far in many ways.

And Iím a sucker for alternate timeline stories so seeing everything on the peripheral of Kennedyís assassination kept me hooked.

Canít wait for Season 3!

Re: The Umbrella Academy (Netflix) -- based on the comic -- premieres 2/15/19

I liked that they finally acknowledged the other children in the world. Suspect they make up a big part of next season. I think that
Spoiler:
I would have let Vanya go off into the sunset and stay in 1963

I detested the first episode to the point that I am almost didnt watch the rest. Have to say I thought they had recast Allison the whole show.

Would watch season 3
