Margo ... ahem ... Janet has an impromptu meeting with Ember before the magical sh*t hits the fan. The Magicians returns with all new episodes on January 23 on SYFY.

The plot in this show is so deep that by the time I started watching season 3 I had no idea what was going on.

I'm looking forward to this, but I'm going to have to watch a recap since it's been close to nine months since the season 3 finale....

It's a credit to the writers that the show has maintained such a high standard of quality. It does feel like budget limitations are playing a bigger role this season. We've seen a very limited number of sets and special effects compared to earlier seasons.
I still wish they'd get rid of a couple characters, particularly the useless Josh's comic relief.

Love this show. I watched on the SyFy app a pretty funny segment, where Josh was giving Uber rides to all the characters. The funniest one, I thought, was Elliot and Q. Check it out if you can.

I love this show but I found Olvia Taylor Dudley to be so much of a distraction this episode I found it hard to keep track of what's going on.

I guess anyone that had been watching the past three seasons wouldn't be surprised but they officially ended Q's relationship with Alice, or any possibility of a relationship, this episode in a very strange way. They should have ended it two seasons ago instead of dragging it out.
The writers really don't like Alice as a character - they've gone out of their way to ensure the audience doesn't like her.

Anyone caught up? Season finale was tonight. I feel like season 4 wasn’t as good as 1-3, but was still enjoyable. The finale played out like it could be a series finale, but as far as I can tell it will be coming back.
According to what I’ve read
is not coming coming back.

That was a shocking. Of all the characters...The show was renewed earlier so if it sticks, it will be a big change.

Wow, I thought this show was popular here. It aired 13 weeks and the thread was dead for almost 2 months.
Man, it really shows that this forum just doesn't have the motivation to talk about most shows weekly.

I like the show but really nobody else was participating in the thread. Be odd to see Quentin go.

I really enjoy the show but it’s one of the few I prefer to bing watch. I assumed a lot of people do that.

I just finished this season. I had quite a backlog of episodes on my DVR. Q dying got to me. This would have been the perfect series finale. I don't know how they can do season 5 without him. On a side note, I started reading the first book this past week and I'm really enjoying it so far. I was surprised Book spoiler

To echo Kdogg, I tend to binge watch and in fact just finished binging the last 6(!) episodes. I looked at the recently deleted section on my TiVo and yup...watched 6 eps today, anyway, wowzers, this show continues to be such a wonderful pleasure to watch. I have to say that Quentin just has to come back to the show...even in a non-recurring manner through the occasional flashback scene or just a brief scene or two (or 3) of his goings on in the underworld.

Re: The Magicians (SyFy) -- Season 4 Thread -- premieres 1/23/19
I just binged the back half of season four and all of season five. For three seasons, The Magicians was my favorite show on the air. Season four is the first lesser season of the series - it's not terrible, but some of its worst tendencies start intruding on the plotting and overall character development. I will hold back some of my thoughts for the season five thread, for anyone still unspoiled. Season four sees the rise of side characters like Josh and Finn getting major screen time, which was a mistake.
Killing off Quentin at the end of season four wasn't surprising to me. They killed off the original Penny without a second thought, replacing him with an alternate Penny so they could alter the original premise to what they wanted. It was apparent to me they had no idea what to do with Katie after her Penny died. The character should have been written off at that point.
Producer Sera Gamble and crew seemed like they wanted Q's place as the center of the show's whole premise taken out of the equation so they could switch focus to other characters. It's pretty clear to me the producers have "favorite" characters and altered the overall plot accordingly to suit those whims. Season four didn't feel that organic to me, though some of the sub-plots work better than others.
The entire Josh-Margo relationship is patently ridiculous - it's easier believing Fillory exists than those two getting together romantically.
