Did they really name the physically altered alien double agent Lt. Tyler? Now MacFarlane is straight out ripping off a Star Trek show.

I thought something was fishy when I saw on IMDB that the new crew member played a Krill last season. I figured maybe they just liked the actress and gave her another part, but it still seemed odd.

I liked this episode almost as much as last week's episode. This is really good, rewatchable stuff. As much as I saw something fishy with the new girlfriend, I didn't expect that.

This is a great show.

Maybe if I was a millennial who had never seen any earlier Star Trek series eps or even Babylon 5 I might be able to enjoy this show more.

I flat out HATE the Patrick Warburton Elephant trunk alien character. What is up with him having California surfer slang? Is this supposed to be funny? Absurd? It's just stupid.

This ep just felt like they took 2 or 3 storylines from a couple of old TNG. eps and mashed them together. Nothing new or clever brought to any of them.
I realize there are only so many variations of alien costume design but the Krill are a flat out copy of the Jem Hadar aliens from Deep Space Nine, with maybe a darker skin tone?

Are they able to avoid lawsuits from Paramount because of all the Trek people that are working on this? I don't blame them, its a paycheck but does it have to be so derivative?

Well I think the Patrick Warburton character is supposed to be annoying.. so you'll be glad when he's replaced next episode (assuming he is).

I did like the Corbomite Maneauver attempt that Malloys tries to pull and it fails miserably. Straight TOS satire.

Aliens in Star Trek are always humans with an extra something or other here or there... there's only so many variations.

I thought the episode was OK.. I always hate when heroes are up on top of a rock getting shot at by 3 people at once and there's time for a little dialog during all that and nobody gets hit. I forgot the name of that new race we were introduced to but they are obviously ex Storm Troopers.

This was easily the best episode of the new season. You do wonder if the relationship is some kind of Hollywood fabrication for PR purposes. This show isn't doing gangbusters in the ratings and needs all the help it can get.

It also did kind of bother me that she could escape custody from the Union and then falsify a record of someone who doesn't exist and then get assigned to the ship ... yeah.. I guess the Union's computer admin password is "Union".

Then again Norman somehow got on the ship as a crewman in TOS "I, Mudd" as an android so .. you know.. yeah.. sci-fi..

Doing research after I saw the picture, they have been dating since at least July 2018, as they were holding hands at ComicCon. This is his 3rd(!) marriage!

See there's a guy not afraid of commitment. He's willing to commit over and over again.

Fuck I'd walk on hot coals wearing a tutu if it meant getting a shot at that piece.

You'd think the Krill would've liked Taxi Driver for a movie date.

Agreed, but it felt too much like a ST episode...

Yeah, but it’s exactly this kind of episode that will get my wife to start watching Orville. She saw the last five minutes, when Ed let her go and gave her the Billy Joel drive, then they started playing “She Always A Woman”, which is my wife’s absolute favorite Joel song of all time.

I enjoyed it. One of my favorites of the series so far. Glad I've never watched any Star Trek though, that seems to be why some can't enjoy this.

Seth should just drop the pretense altogether, get rid of the comedy element. This is clearly TNG starring Seth MacFarlane as Captain Picard. Clearly just a vanity project.

While I thought the episode was OK, it was a complete rip-off of a few different TNG episodes spliced together.

Yeah, there’s a real tightrope they’re walking.

The comedy elements and the dramatic elements frequently come off as incongruous. It’s like the A-story is “City on the Edge of Forever” or “Inner Light” and the B-story is a Kevin Smith thing where someone gets their dick mutiliated by a sexbot.

I disagree.
The ST sci-fi stuff we've seen, and done better, a million times before.
As far as throwing comedy into that mix, I can only remember Galaxy Quest (1999).
