S02E02 "New Eden" was a good episode, maybe the best of the series so far. I think it's the first episode of the series that seemed like real Star Trek. The whole Prime Directive dilemma on either revealing themselves to these isolated humans or treating them as an undeveloped society that they should not interfere with was classic Trek. Hopefully, this is the show finding its footing and getting better from here.

And we’re back to the Klingon shit. At least this time it felt a little like an epilogue, and passing the torch to a Section 31 plot.

The previews have been showing Klingons (and a D7!), so their appearance isn’t unexpected.

This felt like a wrap-up of the Klingon story arc. While that story didn't bother me as much as it bothered other people, I'd be happy if Tyler moved on to Section 31 and the Klingons were left to sort out their own politics.

I think this may be viewed with some scorn, but this show is approaching the best Star Trek I have seen. It started very rough, but the last 8? episodes of last year and the first 3 of this year have been truly exceptional. Pike is awesome. The production quality as a previous poster has said is off the charts. Maybe the best looking show ever on TV. Each episode has to be heinously expensive. I still kinda dislike Burnham, but she doesn't ruin the show. What I love though is that it not only feels like Star Trek but it is an extremely deep and compelling show full of interesting concepts and strong logic. It is like all of the Star Trek core elements have finally reached full maturity and the result is really splendid. The Klingons kinda blow, but hopefully they fade into the background. It is also excellent this season at being both serialized and stand alone. It is truly fantastic TV. I hope they can maintain this.

I love this show in all sorts of ways but the stuff I don't like, I really hate:

1. There was absolutely no need to change the appearance of the Klingons. Everything that's happened so far could have fit what we already know of them.
2. They've been trying to shoehorn a plot about Spock in since episode 1 of the first season. It's painfully obvious they're trying to make it somehow jive with what we know about him, and making Burnham a long lost foster-sister seems silly and nonsensical. It doesn't work.

Otherwise, everything else about the show is great. They really, really need to move on from Spock, the Klingon stuff and Section 31 and just make it it's own show about totally new stuff we don't know in the Trek universe.

I have no problem with paying for CBS All Access, especially for a show of this quality. But if you're going to make us pay just for this could you at least offer the best picture and sound? Apple and Netflix (international) offer the show in HDR and surround. CBS all access' PQ/AQ are lousy.

I let out a big sigh when the Klingons returned this week. Kind of hoped they’d leave that whole plot aside for a while. Notable course correction with them having hair now and speaking more English but the Klingon reinvention in general and the inane human agent plot were the worst bits of S1, IMHO.

They had to reinvent the Klingons they don't have the rights to use the original version we know. Which to me is stupid why let someone make a show about your IP if you're going to force them to not use certain aspects of it, lessening the show in general. They also can't use the original ships either and had to change them.

Doesn't CBS own the rights to Trek? The whole thing seems kind of dumb. Aesthetically some things did not need to be changed at all.

No it’s two separate rights and convoluted. Viacom owns the feature film rights and CBS owns the television rights.

Is there not a new episode today, or do they wait until night to release it?

After enjoying the first season very much, I'm not feeling this S2. I really liked the edgy first-season black-ops vibe and Captain Flip-Side until he got discovered as a villain.

This new season is presenting all the same old Trek tropes. It looks fantastic and the acting's good, but I feel like I've seen it all before.

Agreed. i really liked Lorca, and the idea of a sketchy Captain appealed to me. When he was revealed as a villain and mirror universe infiltrator, I was disappointed.

I think it would cool if they brought prime universe Lorca back, and he was essentially the same as his mirror universe counterpart. He’s so morally ambiguous that he and his opposite are, more or less, the same guy.

Major fan of the show but this episode was a big misstep to me. A bad Voyager episode crammed to the gills with technobabble.

If you guys watched the Short Treks you would have understood what was going on with Saru.

I really enjoyed that episode- had a real TNG feeling to it.

So is this season all filler until they find Spock? Seems like they're just drawing it out.

I don’t know if it’s just me but Martin-Green’s acting seems to be getting worse as the series goes. The beginning of E5 where she’s running down the corridors was AWFUL.

I agree - I love Martin-Green, but I just don't think she has a handle on the character. Two seasons in, that is a major liability.

Yeah, given how this season is playing out, they may as well retitle the show "Star Trek: The Search For Spock"
