Agreed. I’ll be sad to see him go. He’s almost single-handedly brought the show to the next level.

There have been a few good novels (canon) focusing on Capt. Pike. It would be cool if we could see a series based on a book like Enterprise.

Also one crazy thing to me. I watched the entire Hell on Wheels series and It wasn't until that link I even knew it was him. Blew my mind.

I never recognize him without his beard. I'm finally learning his name. And when I realize it, I go, shit, that's Bohannon!
Same thing happened while I was watching Inhumans.

I was just coming here to post that having actors from The Wire makes everything better.

I do question whether or not mothers and daughters would have such an exact biological match.

I’m really enjoying this season but to your question, keep in mind they also introduced “time crystals” in this episode. :-)

So does Spock know about the Mirror Universe before Mirror, Mirror? He clearly knows about Section 31, and is aware of (met?) Captain/Emperor Georgriou.

I broke down and subscribed to CBS AllAccess, and I'm glad I did. I'm on episode 7 of season 2, and this is fantastic. Trek at its best, IMO. I can forgive deviations from aesthetics and tech from 50+ years ago. It's the characters that matter in Trek, and this show is doing it right. I love Pike's introduction and how he interacts with the crew.

Re: Star Trek: Discovery (CBS All-Access) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 1/17/19

I rewatched the Tribbles episode from TOS and was surprised that there was a plot point that a Klingon was disguised as a human. This obviously wouldn’t work with the way the Klingons look in Discovery. The change in appearance btwn TOS and TNG iis even discussed in the DS9 episode where they go back in time to the events of the tribbles episode. Worf says something along the lines of “We don’t discuss it with outsiders.” So obviously something happened. My thinking now is that that story will eventually be told and will have something to do with Tyler.
Like, maybe they take a cue from him and, while going through a period of being even more isolationist than normal, a large portion of them modify themselves to better pass as human covertly. Of course at some point they’ll have to give that up and modify themselve again to get to how they look in TNG.

The story was already told in ST: Enterprise season 4, episodes Affliction/Divergence. Basically the Klingons tried to replicate the Augments and ended up unleashing a virus. One of the side effects of the cure was the loss of the cranial ridges.

Oh, cool! I need to watch that.

Edit: wait, Enterprise is pre-Discovery, so isn’t that a plot hole now?

Yeah, kind of. They never should have done that story in Enterprise. Most of us always assumed that the Klingons appeared the way they did in TOS because of the budget and available make-up technology, and were content with that.

Also, in “The Trouble With Tribbles,” I think it was stated that Darvin was surgically altered to appear human, which implies that Klingons are physically distinguishable from humans, which generally wasn’t the case in TOS.

As I recall, the virus didn't effect all the Klingons, just a subset of them and eventually they died out.

Eventually I'll rewatch all of Trek- the story is over 50yrs long so it's hard to keep track.

To make it weirder, the Klingons from TOS later appeared on DS9, played by the same actors. And in DS9, they had the regular Klingon make-up. So maybe the virus' effects wear off!

Yep. I never felt there needed to be any kind of in-story explanation.

I really hope they aren’t setting Control up to be the origin of the Borg.

There are a few hints that this may be the case... “Struggling is pointless”... Leland’s assimilation.

All they need to do is send it back in time to the Delta quadrant...

Yeah that is a good possibility. Also, they gave a hint how Spock might not know Burnham ultimately as well. Pretty dense show. Compelling, even if Burnham is probably the worst thing about it.

If control is an AI why can't it occupy more than one organic host?

I don't think Control is the Borg. In our doomsday scenario of this series, no life was left when Michael's Mom travels into the future. The Borg don't want to destroy all life, they want to assimilate it into their collective.
