It definitely was not a hand holder. Lithgow should get an Emmy and the other leads at least nominated. Maszlany has such an interesting face. Unlike most people who look mostly the same with different hair and hair color and makeup she looks amazingly different.

Speaking of, I looked up the actors on IMDB a few weeks ago when the show first started and was amazed at how different the actress who plays Della looks with Dark hair and blonde hair. Like a completely different person!

She does as well. Step daughter of Mark Rylance. Assume she skipped the family screening of Intimacy

We didn’t dislike the finale, but it certainly wasn’t what we were expecting.
I’m actually surprised they wrapped as much up as they did since they only had an hour, but they obviously left some questions open. Which, I actually don’t think is a bad thing. It leaves questions open for people to debate!
However, I am still confused on what and how it all went down. If I get the general gist: the detective, two (?) thugs, George and the church elder/money guy all went back to a stint in Colorado. Because the elder and George were in at the church they knew the baby’s dad was tied to the rich Terminator. So the idea was get in close with the wife, distract her and legitimately ransom the baby with the idea of giving it back for $100k. Except it went sideways because of the heroine prostitute which ended up killing baby with tainted milk.
If that’s correct, I’m unsure how the detective fit in. Was he getting a cut, and was the church somehow funneling money to the Chinese (?) prostitutes? Also, unclear about sewing Charlie’s eyes open. Was it to cover for the heroine OD? I figured the thread was going to come back into play.

I just figure the two detectives are (or were) muscle for hire and took a job from their old union-busting pal. When it went south the one with half a brain made sure to clean up the mess and walk away. As for the baby's eyes it was dramatic license at best. Were they worried the parents would think him dead just because his eyes were closed? It's not like babies ever sleep or anything. I like the look and feel of the show but didn't care for the actual storyline all that much.

You're right, I completely spaced on the confrontation scene in Ennis's garage. So I'm guessing Holcomb helped whack Ennis because of the heat he was bringing to their more run of the mill corruption racket.

Finally caught up to this, glad I stuck around as the slow burn got better and better and when we finally got to Lawyer Perry I was riveted... very happy to see this renewed one of the better shows of the year so far... really enjoyed Rhys. Juliet Rylance as Della Street was great, Chris Chalk as Drake also excellent, but really loved Shea Whigham in this, fantastic.
For those who bailed early (like I almost did...) come back!

I never got the whole "resurrection" storyline. It felt confusing and unnecessary and the conclusion was weird and unsatisfying.
But I did enjoy the courtroom scenes. Fun stuff. Loved the fake out opening in the finale. Looking forward to season 2. Loved that they brought in the iconic theme music at the end.

Season 2 teaser. Premieres in 2023. Reminds me, I need to finish season 1. I just got bogged down with so much shit when this dropped during COVID in 2020. I think I finished half of the season.

Nice. Looks good. I'm looking forward to a courtroom setting for S2. Won't be the same without Tatiana though (not necessarily a spoiler for S1 -- she's not in that trailer).
And whew, any time there's a bump in an old HBO thread now, I'm going to have a momentary panic when I worry if the show just got cancelled and pulled.

I enjoyed the first season quite a bit but, seriously, over 2 years between seasons?!

When I saw this bump I was worried the show was getting the Westworld treatment. Glad that wasn't it.

Perry Mason didn't have those problems. It will start in a few months and then be cancelled.

Encouraging second season review from Sepinwall, who didn't much care for S1.

I had high expectations for S1 but came away slightly underwhelmed. I like what I'm hearing about S2. The Knick was excellent, IMO.

I am also encouraged overall that HBO is putting this on a Monday. They have to have a very strong lineup going forward to make this a Monday show instead of a Sunday night one. As I am not even sure what they're planning on running after Succession finishes its run (
), but HBO has to be stacked for the Summer and Fall if they couldn't find a spot on Sunday night for a show of this prestige and apparent quality.

I thought this was a good start.
They do a great job with the music and making it feel like you're watching something old. The title screen this week look gorgeous,
