S9E08?

Honestly at this point I'm just watching out of morbid curiosity on how AMC plan to drag this out for another 11-12 years...

Lets see... Spoilers... I guess none of these count:

Michonne will act like a bitch even when people aren't being mean to her.

Eugene will describe his encounter in the most convoluted way possible.

Negan will wax poetic to zero effect.

A secondary character will die because of the stupidity of another secondary character.

or

A secondary character will die because of the hard-headedness of one of the main cast.

People will talk about Rick as if he died last week.

Judith will perform duties and activities well beyond her age. No one will seem to notice or be concerned.

So, will this show survive if they continue to kill/remove popular characters? I imagine that we will see the transition to the Negan show with the end of season 9, but they have taken out Rick, Carl, Maggie, Jesus, Beth, etc. I don't know how they are keep going on with these losses.

Yeah, it’s kind of weird.

The tv series is about four/five years behind the comics, where Rick, Carl, Maggie, and Jesus are all still alive, while on the tv series you have characters in the lead like Carol and Darryl who aren’t in the comic. Tonight’s episode covers issue #132; the comic book is up to the 180s with Rick, Carl, Maggie, Jesus, and, yes, Negan, still alive and kicking. I do wonder how much the two stories are going to diverge going forward...

Welp we lost another character and I'm pretty much

The concept of The Whisperers does seem scary, but its just another group to clash with. There will be another one after that.

This is where my policy of walker extermination would have come in handy. See a herd, obliterate a herd.

Cinematography in the cemetery scene was well done.

Not sure in what way they are particularly scary, other than yes they are another group to deal with.

How to deal with whisperers: Light a bonfire, and shoot the walkers (whisperers) than don't mindlessly incinerate themselves by stumbling straight into it.

"Hey, we've got a way out now, Jesus!"

"Well, I'll stay here for no reason other than to get killed."

And then, the Scooby Doo reveal.

And good job, Gabriel.

No doubt... in the time he said that he'd stay and the others should leave - he could've left with them. I mean, he was like 5 feet away from the gate. It was obvious that he'd be dead after that.

I liked how they quickly shoved in a Aaron/Jesus friendship scene last week just so someone would give a shit when they killed him off since Maggie's not around to do it.

Jesus was a pretty underhelming character who really didn't do much, but even though he's "only" been on the show for 3 seasons - he's still a more senior and second tier character... and it's weird that they got rid of yet another one of them.

This kind of thing can be done, especially in a show like this where death is all around you, but you need to have some replacements in place to take over.
Since Negan showed up, of the "gang" we've had Glenn, Abraham, Rick, Maggie, Carl, Morgan, Sasha and Jesus leave. That's a lot of major/majorish characters. And I can't think of anyone anywhere near as major that's replaced them during this span of 1.5 seasons. Pretty soon we're going to be more familiar with some of the walkers than the regular characters.

Re: The Walking Dead (S9E08) -- Midseason Finale -- "Evolution" -- 11/25/18

Jesus was one of my favorite characters tbh. It does seem like the show has lost all it's a and b cast without replacing anyone. We're stuck with c and d characters. Didn't even see Judith this episode as far as I can recall, but we're now mostly focusing on Henry of all people. >_>

The way Jesus went out was written so poorly. You knew it was gonna happen before it actually happened and thus there was no shock value. Instead you're just left wondering why the characters always act so dumb when the time arrives yet survived as long as they did. Like there was no reason for Jesus to "stay behind". He was literally a couple feet from the gate and everyone had made it through.

Henry has to pick up all of the Carl plotlines because of that poor decision.

At first I thought Jesus was just going to be stabbed, but survive.
But, I guess not.
(I didn't notice the weapon running clean through him on first watch.)

Another bad decision.

I agree with Finisher about the graveyard scene, though.
Very creepy and well shot for this show.

The whispering walker ducking and stabbing Jesus was kinda cool, but other than that it was very boring.

They finally give Jesus an ultra badass scene and then poof.

Maybe they should reboot the series next year.

I don't mind them killing off characters as long as it helps the overall narrative. I'm not sure how killing off Jesus will do that though. Still, I like this season so far.

Well he was so wishy-washy when it came to leading Hilltop so we know there will be a power struggle to see who controls that colony (but I'm not sure who, since no one ever ran against him).

Jesus was never that strong a character. Sure he was the moral compass to a wayward Gregory... but never much more than that (other than a good fighter).

He was wasted... and I don't think I will miss him.

Apparently the actor agrees with you, which is one of the reasons he decided to leave. He apparently thought the character in the Comics had a lot of potential that wasn't making it to the TV version and he was very frustrated.

I'm glad to hear there was at least one person on the set who wasn't guzzling the Kool-Aid. But of course that person is now off the show.

Yes, despite the nonsensical actions of Jesus required to precipitate it, I thought the reveal was done pretty well. But overall it has been a very underwhelming string of episodes since the time jump, and especially as a mid-season finale.
