Re: The Walking Dead (S9E06) -- "Who Are You Now?" -- 11/11/18

I think the walkers primarily hunt through sight and sound, though once movement or noise catches their attention, they can pick out their prey through sight and smell. Just covering yourself with zombie blood and guts isn’t enough to mask oneself; they can still see through that deception like when the panicky kid got eaten alive when Alexandria was overrun a few seasons back.

I think the mud move by Eugene and Rosita was a desperate attempt to camoflage themselves from both sight and smell in that ditch. It might have made them look like dead walkers, too.

Looks like the Saviours have assimilated into the other communities. The blonde lady Saviour was on Alexandria’s ruling council.

While we don’t see anybody with walkie-talkies in this future (hard to say) they are there to PUT UP RADIO EQUIPMENT!! I would hope/assume they had something to test it with, i.e. something to communicate back to Gabriel. The herd would have passed and never have noticed them up there.
Probably no working batteries to power the walkie-talkies. We’re a good eight or nine years into the zombie apocalypse, and I think batteries shelf lives max out at about ten years. They will have used up what they have by now even if they still worked.

Also, it’s possible the herd was following them. Eugene mentioned that the herd must have done a 180, and we later learned that they were actively searching for Eugene and Rosita.

We are back to the “magic perimeter” theory where they have only wandered/explored/discovered so far out from their location.
“Magic perimeter.” — Funny you should mention that.

I assumed they saw Eugene already up on the tower as he was making some noise, along with Rosita below... so they could've just stayed at the bottom salivating until something else distracted them away.

A few other random thoughts: that bridge was SO important that they never fixed it.
I thought this as well. Maybe the explosion made it beyond repair.
Or maybe they didn't have any more dynamite to build a new one

The bridge was important to Rick. He thought he could calm the Sanctuary down and make it a viable part of the greater community. After the events leading up to the bridge explosion, the rest of them definitely took the attitude of "fuck that bridge."

If the walkers are becoming sentient (or re-sentient? self re-aware?), will they become partners with the humans by the end of all this?

Yes. But somebody will try to sabotage the sentient walker/human relationship as they are on the cusp of building a new society. Wait, that’s Z Nation.

Now that I've stumbled on some things, just a quick shout out to book readers for not spoiling things.

Ok, so the group we're following runs into another group and will struggle with them and eventually beat them. Am I missing something?

After the talking walker ending, I'm really looking forward to the next episode. That hasn't happened for a looooong time!

I have a feeling that the last line of the midseason is going to be
Spoiler:
“Don’t move.”

And the final scene of the season will be
Spoiler:
the border.

Also looks like Henry will be getting Carl’s arc from the comics and all that entails, which means that Carol will likely get Rick’s part, too. Which will be really interesting if it plays out the same way it did in the comics...

Unfortunately, yes. Yet another group of insane extremists for the good folks of dumbfuckville to deal with. With Rick gone, who's going to be the one who commits an act of violence against them, gets caught later, and pleads to "talk it out?"

It will be interesting to see just how they play out this talking walker thing given that no character or fan of the show should believe for a second that a zombie on this series could do anything other than act on pure instinct.

It is just me or does that boy look far too young to be Rick's kid if the time jump was 5-6 years?

Even accounting for gestation he would have to be kindergarten age. I don't remember how big he was, but I recall she was holding him like a toddler. Maybe that just made him appear younger. Regardless, it was a cheap manipulation and I couldn't care less about Rick's kid(s). Or their mother(s).

The fact that they are not walkers should make that pretty clear.

It's possible hat they will reveal the kid is not Rick's. Just like Judith! But that boy was way too young to believably be Rick's.

The point was that I hope they don't spend any time having characters believe that walkers could do anything but act on inistnct. It should be immediately obvious to everybody that they are not actually walkers.

The kid's name is RJ though. I'm guessing it stands for Rick Junior.

Judith should really be called Judith Walsh.

Wasn't trying to say defintively that they wouldn try and pass of that specfic boy as Rick's. Just that it makes no sesne if they do.

I was talking about the talking walkers. If that's just speculation, fair enough. If it comes from knowledge from reading the comics, it would take a fucking idiot to just post it in the open.

I couldn't care less about the Rick/Michonne child parentage.

They've been talking about the talking walkers since before this season even started. The trailer for the season highlighted that. Surely you didn't actually think they were sentient walkers, did you?
