Deadly Class (SyFy) EP: The Russo Bros. — 1/16/19

Set in a dark, comic book world against the backdrop of late ’80s counterculture, Deadly Class follows a homeless teen recruited into a storied elite private school where the world’s top crime families send their next generations. Maintaining his moral code while surviving a ruthless curriculum, vicious social cliques, and his own adolescent uncertainties soon proves to be vital.”

Zero sci-fi or fantasy elements. What is this doing on Syfy?

It's 80s dystopian, that seems to be one of their niches. Plus it looks fun.

I was definitely all in just on it being based on the great comic book series, but the Russo bros involvement is a nice bonus.

Is it any good? I'm a huge fan of the comic and it looks decent enough from the promos.

I liked it. Kind of had a smoking aces feel.

Re: Deadly Class (SyFy) EP: The Russo Bros. — 1/16/19

This is really something different.
A morality play from The Dark Side.
The series is off to a great start, hopefully they won't fnck it up by playing too close to the comic.

This makes as much sense being on Syfy as wrestling does, but I did enjoy the show.

Clearly going for a younger crowd with the edgy tone. This feels like any number of anime programs filtered through a Western mindset.

The pilot had a very cinematic style to it. It didn't do much for me though. I don't think I will continue.

Lana Condor though...

80s Alternative music, Henry Rollins, and yes...Lana Condor. I'm in for the season.

Re: Deadly Class (SyFy) EP: The Russo Bros. — 1/16/19

Watched for the 80s theme (I love that decade) and dropped it during the animation sequence. Just tell me a story in one style. I don’t need some fancy shit.

I encountered this issue with Nat Geo’s Valley of the Boom. That had interviews, dramatization, a dance sequence number - all in the first episode.

If this is a new trend of storytelling, I hate it.

Hey, I remember you! You're the guy who walked out on Kill Bill Vol 1 (and did not return) on opening day when the animated sequence came on.

(that actually happened at the screening I attended)

Re: Deadly Class (SyFy) EP: The Russo Bros. — 1/16/19

The wife and I got about halfway thru the latest episode last night and realized we didn't give a crap about any of the characters or the story itself.
Deleted from the DVR and moved on to another series.

I have way too much content available and little time.

Re: Deadly Class (SyFy) EP: The Russo Bros. — 1/16/19

I've hung around so far but you get the feeling this show is one bad plot decision away from falling apart. Despite the 1980's setting, the characters are all "modern" teenagers and act nothing like someone growing up in the 1980s. This might as well be fantasy.

Re: Deadly Class (SyFy) EP: The Russo Bros. — 1/16/19

It's not must-see like say, Killing Eve, and episodes do tend to pile up on my DVR, but I still enjoy it. I guess Rollins is done though? I couldn't quite get the gist of the conversation with him and Lin, and didn't have the time to rewatch it.
