Hell, a Tatooine Cantina based show sounds like a better idea at this point.

I am cautiously excited ... I think they are marketing it wrong already though. They are saying it is a Cassian Andor prequel, but that doesn't sound accurate. From what I heard on /Film Daily it is (hopefully) going to be an espionage story surrounding the beginnings of the Rebellion. Andor may be the focal character, but it isn't about him.

So did they rip off a previous character when coming up with this one's name?

Lando Calrissian
Andor, Cassian

They were a bit lazy with some of the names. We already had a major character named Jinn (first name Qui-Gon), now we have a Jyn (last name Erso). Be more creative. Same goes for naming that one planet Wobani, a painfully obvious Obi-Wan anagram. Dumb.

I mostly agree with this, but at the same time I get a little annoyed that there are almost never repeated names in films. If this was a movie, they’d probably change my name to majorjeff23 for this interaction.

I mean, the main character's have names like "Skywalker" and "Solo" I'm not sure how much creativity you're expected with the names.

Fine, maybe they need to be less creative:

re: Star Wars: Andor (Disney+) -- news, rumors, etc.

While this character wouldn’t be my first choice to be the focus of a tv series this might be interesting. There can be more of the war aspect of Star Wars shown from regular Rebel and Imperial troops without having to be tied to the main storyline directly. I also really liked Rogue One, and while not my favorite character from the film Cassian is alright. If they can put K2SO in with him eventually that’ll add some fun elements.

I wish we could see more of Jyn pre-Rogue One instead personally as I feel she’s a more interesting character, but I’ll at least give this a chance.

Well, as much as I like the film it’s not exactly hard to see why. A film where all the main characters are underdeveloped and dead by the end doesn’t exactly sell toys to kids. Rogue One is more of a story based film than a character one really. That’s probably the film’s main weakness, but at the same time I can understand why it is the way it is. In that sense I think a prequel series that fleshes our Cassian more could be interesting.

re: Star Wars: Andor (Disney+) -- news, rumors, etc.

There is more than a 97.6 percent chance that K-2SO fans will be very happy.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy announced today that Alan Tudyk will reprise the role of K-2SO in the upcoming Cassian Andor live-action series for Disney+, the Company’s new direct-to-consumer streaming service launching November 12. For Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Tudyk both voiced K-2SO and performed motion-capture for the towering droid, who quickly became a fan favorite thanks to his wit and sense of loyalty.

In addition, it was confirmed that Stephen Schiff, of the critically acclaimed show The Americans, will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

The series, set to go into production this year and premiere in 2021, follows the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One. Diego Luna will reprise the role of Andor.

The rousing spy thriller will explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire. A release date for the series has not yet been announced.

Great news. Scuttlebutt says Tony is the one that came in with the third act rewrites and reshoots for Rogue One and made it what it was so I’m glad to see him coming back.

Two years away sounds right. What is the issue?

I am actually looking forward to this more than the Mandalorian. I loved the feel of R1 and thought K-2SO was a great character.

The cynic in me says the only reason they're making a Cassian Andor series is to try to repackage and sell those millions of unsold Rogue One action figures.

Nothing against Rogue One, but they grossly over-estimated the demand for toys based on that movie.

I was wondering whether it was time to start becoming enthused yet.
