Yea... I don't get why some continue to fixate on the episode length of Disney+ shows.

One of the benefits of streaming was supposed to be getting away from the restrictions of network TV that require episodes to be the same length every time no matter what the story is covering.

It's a three episode premiere. I am happy to know that I'll have to watch just 90 minutes of content that first week instead of three full hours to keep up.

Fixed. Gotta love those bonus Disney+ credits in the run time.

I think the runtime thing comes from people wanting more “value” or just more really. But as we know more isn’t always better.

Re: Star Wars: Andor (Disney+) -- news, rumors, etc.

The issue with the episode length is on several fronts. Nobody had an issue with the WandaVision or Mandalorian episodes, as they were more or less designed that way. The added 5 minutes of international credits is an annoyance for sure...when we see an HBO show length for example, we don't have to factor in that shit. But it's just painfully obvious D+ is just banking on their library, and they aren't really invested in their shows. They're just 2 hr movies stretched to painfully cheap looking 3.5hr streaming "content."

Great, so we get 12 30 min shows...or on any other streaming services would've been a 5 or 6 event series - even here, it's watered down to almost nothing. And they already made a movie about the end so the whole thing is pointless to start with.

I don't understand this POV. As long as a character's story is compelling, how can it be pointless?
As human beings, we understand how all of our stories end. We die. But that doesn't mean the stories of our lives lack meaning.

I think I've made my opinion on Grace Randolph pretty clear by this point, but this Tweet gets why she sucks so bad.

Stuff isn't good to watch if you already know the end?

Don't go see the Whitney Houston movie in December. She dies.
Don't see Titanic. You already know it sinks.

Better Call Saul is a great example of this. we all know what happens to all the characters, but we still stuck around and enjoyed the hell out of the 5 seasons that was BCS.

People were most definitely bitching about the Mandalorian episode length since the beginning of the series.

This is true to an extent, but with the show opening with Saul in Omaha after BB, we knew from the start that there was more to Saul’s story after the timeline of the original show.

30 minutes is too short for these types of shows. It’s looking like I’ll have to let a few episodes pile up before I start watching the series. That tactic helped The Mandalorian immensely.

That is quite the hot take. I guess Band of Brothers was a completely pointless series given all the movies and history books that had already been made about the end.

Forgot about my post(s), I think I was probably just frustrated with the incompetency of Lucasfilm more than anything. I'm sure it'll be fine if it's a well made show - which it sounds like it is from the reactions.

Don't worry, I was just giving you trouble. It was pretty obvious from the tone of your post that you were venting.

[Disney exec] We all know he was cut in half in the movie, but we can definitely milk "Better Call Maul" for at least 6 seasons and a movie! [/Disney exec]

Tony Gilroy, the head writer and showrunner of Andor, insisted they shoot it on location in Europe.
I disagree that filming them in The Volume is what made them feel small. The Mandalorian exists in a world that he tries to keep small, not many people around. Boba Fett and Obi Wan both took place in worlds that should have been significantly populated. It wasn't the set ... it was the complete lack of populating what they did with the sets.

I think it's a little bit of both. The Volume, while an awesome tool, can only represent so much "space" so that is a limiting factor in how/what you can show which leads to issues that you bring up since there simply isn't room to populate places with real people.

One of the things that is brought up in every early impression of Andor is how big it feels not only in scope, but in look. And a lot of it can be attributed to how they shot it. At least IMO.

I'm glad I don't advertise what entertainment I enjoy in public. No t-shirts, no "baby yoda on board" stickers in my car window. I would be mortified if anything thought I acted like that.

Most of the reviews have been pretty positive for this show. Metacritic is running at 75 right now. But my favorite critic Alan Sepinwall hated it and gave it a review.

Tony Gilroy says that season 2 will likely come out in late 2024.

I’ll be honest and say that it sucks that cable and streaming shows have gone to the every two years pattern.

I've always been of the mindset that it takes as long as it takes. I'd rather it be good than rushed.
Besides it's not like we will be lacking in Star Wars Disney+ content in the interim.
