The Walking Dead (S9E05) -- "What Comes After" -- 11/4/18

"The Walking Dead" season nine continues on Sunday, November 4th at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. On Rick Grimes' highly anticipated final episode, "What Comes After," Rick is forced to face the past as he struggles to maintain the safety of the communities and protect the future he and Carl envisioned. The episode is written by Scott M. Gimple and Matthew Negrete and directed by Greg Nicotero.

Rick's last episode is tonight.

Ratings have been on a decline, but my guess it will see a spike tonight with it being Andrew Lincoln's final episode.

Just a warning, -DVR and other schedule entries for next Sunday spoil a couple of events in this week's episode; if you want to remain "un-spoiled" prior to the episode, you might want to watch out for that.

if what I heard is legit for how Rick actually leaves the show I'm OK with it.

I was curious about this. Looked at the DirecTV summary. It in no way spoils anything. Completely generic summary of the episode.

Should have expected it! They just announced they are going to make feature films/shows on AMC starring Rick Grimes.

Saying he is done with Walking Dead is odd since you would think he would want to be with his family.

I actually like this episode a lot and now looking forward to the series/spinoff. To me, this is the definitely split of the comic book and the TV show. Both had become stale and at least it seems that both are now at the point where they can continue without at least the TV show depending on the comic book series to keep fans happy.

Things went down as most predicted.

Spoiler:
Bridge, river, helicopter. Was not expecting the time jump. I liked that they brought back Shane and a few other characters.

This was a pretty good episode though in my opinion. I don't know what the future holds for my watching, but I think I will give it at least until the end of the midseason.

I still think we will eventually see the two TV shows coming together.

Anyone catch the preview for upcoming episodes:

Spoiler:
It seems at least one walker has the ability to talk(!), unless I was hearing things. One character said something about the walkers having evolved.

I think they were talking about how they were circling around each other.

The sound you heard was
Spoiler:

one of the Whisperers.

It’s kind of weird how different the cast is from the comics at this point.

With older Judith and Magda’s crew, we’re now at the post-war time jump. But Rick, Carl, Andrea, and possibly Maggie, now gone, and non-comics like Carol, Judith, and Darryl taking the leads, it’s going to feel like a really different animal. Yes, I know Carol was in the comics, but she died early in the prison arc and TV Carol is so different she’s basically a new character.

But, going by the preview, it’s going to stick pretty close to comic arc with the ham radio and the “advanced” walkers.

Which means we can probably say good-bye to major players in the season finale. I have a feeling it’s going to be “border.”

I caught that too. One of the things I like of where they are going and it will make now more sense on why zombies differ from one another.

What did yours say? Mine was something like “Six years after Rick’s disappearance, a new group encounters Hilltop and wonders whether they they trust them.”

Not knowing at the time that the end of this episode would actually start the time jump, it certainly seemed like the kind of spoiler many would rather not know in advance.

Yea,the time jump out of the blue was not expected.

Why would the need or put boxes of dynamite on an under constuction wood bridge?

I was just envisioning Bridge on the River Kwai.

Nothing about Rick's equestrian saga made any sense unless you attribute it to massive internal (and external) bleeding.

I found myself checking the time remaining on the episode a couple times because everything felt very unnecessarily drug out. The last 10 minutes were good and the time jump was a nice surprise.

I am not too thrilled with the preview implying that the show is going to become "Judith Grimes Saves the World" starring a cast of millennials. Nothing will get me to tune out faster than that. It was interesting to glimpse some of the evolving looks of the long term cast though.

Not very subtle about lifting from the classic, were they?

More, typical Walking dead. Seemed like they spent an awful lot of time on Michonne's dull, day to day, activities.

So, presumably Rick is somehow rescued by the junkyard woman and taken on the helicopter?

After that, we'll find that Michonne is pregnant.

Woot! I was kind of right. Although I expected junkyard woman to rescue him from impalement. Didn't think she's pick him up after he managed to survive bleeding profusely through the entire show.

The Michonne guess remains to be seen.

Apart from the bleeding, it was nice to see a few faces from the past.

I was baffled by that, too... Also by the appearance that all the 'dead' were actually dead went they went past in the water.

Judith may become the Wesley Crusher of the Walking Dead franchise.

Also way to bury the lead AMC: Garbage Lady's last episode.

Probably with a much higher budget, HBO production values. Possibly even 2:35-2:40 aspect ratio. Doubt they'll be on regular AMC. Gonna have to pay extra to see them on whichever platform they're released on.
Junk lady lucked out in getting promoted to the feature films with Rick while other long timers got left behind. They're either getting a big paycheck to stick with the show, or join Rick later.
