Set in and around the corridors of power, Bodyguard tells the story of David Budd (Richard Madden), a heroic, but volatile war veteran now working as a Specialist Protection Officer for London’s Metropolitan Police Service. When he is assigned to protect the ambitious Home Secretary Julia Montague (Keeley Hawes), Budd finds himself torn between his duty and his beliefs. Responsible for her safety, could he become her biggest threat? Bodyguard arrives on Netflix on October 24. Trailer just dropped today. This premieres next Wednesday on Netflix. Posting this since it's probably not on most of your radars. And there's a bunch of things on right now too. UK series that Netflix picked up the rights for. This was reportedly one of the most watched TV shows in the UK this year. |

... and rumors are floating around that Richard Madden might be approached to be the next James Bond (being discussed here).

He looks like Turtle from Entourage in that still (post weight loss).

On Ep 4, really solid so far, first 15 mins were movie quality tension.

Re: Bodyguard (Netflix) -- S: Richard Madden -- Premieres 10/24/18
first two episodes were pretty good. I think I will enjoy seeing how this plays out. Nice that its only 6 episodes so it does not seem to be wasting too much time in side stories etc.

Just finished this up, very good watch, felt a lot like a crisp British version of 24...

Re: Bodyguard (Netflix) -- S: Richard Madden -- Premieres 10/24/18
Finished it last night. There have been so many gov't conspiracy dramas over recent years that it's getting to the point of overkill. That being said, this was very well done. Helps that it was a 6-episode season.

This stuff plays out like the show Spooks, which is a very good thing. Great stuff so far. Currently on Episode 5.

Last 2 seasons are great. The movie is okay, if anything to see Peter Firth back in action.

I just watched the first two episodes. This is exceptional.

Re: Bodyguard (Netflix) -- S: Richard Madden -- Premieres 10/24/18
Watched all 6 episodes over the weekend and it is really good. Madden was really good but I didn’t understand the last 25 minutes and how and why certain things happened. Anyway, I am in for a season 2.

Re: Bodyguard (Netflix) -- S: Richard Madden -- Premieres 10/24/18
Finished this up today. I liked it, but I thought it wrapped up alittle too neatly in the final episode, with all the co-conspirators freely (and proudly, in some cases) admitting their part in the crimes and giving up all details without provocation. Don't think it usually works like that.
I also thought Richard Madden was good, but at the same time didn't see anything in this series that should make him the front-runner as the new James Bond. If he does land the role though, so be it. Good for him. |
Re: Bodyguard (Netflix) -- S: Richard Madden -- Premieres 10/24/18
After the first-season finale of Bodyguard became a small-screen phenomenon, series creator Jed Mercurio on Monday said he's in talks with the BBC about a second season. "We're in talks. We're going through the logistics of it. There's no real update now," Mercurio told a keynote session at the Banff World Media Festival. He also confirmed the BBC has not yet officially greenlit a second season. Mercurio's appearance at the fest in the Canadian Rockies follows Bodyguard — on which Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) plays an embattled protector caught up in a devious assassination plot — grabbing a peak audience of 11 million viewers, or a 47.9 percent share for the finale on BBC One. The police drama was then picked up by Netflix, while Line of Duty, another of Mercurio's dramas, streams stateside on Acorn TV. Mercurio said he was surprised that the first season of Bodyguard became among the BBC's biggest TV shows of 2018. "I know there's an adage that your failure should be surprising. But the level of success was surprising," he said. And the British showrunner of popular thrillers said he's open to working in Hollywood. Mercurio has written a few U.S. pilots, but none received a series order. |

Watched the first couple episodes of this on my wife's suggestion.
Question - does he ever stop calling every woman he works with "mum"? My un-traveled American brain can't get used to it. |

Yea. That does get annoying. I’ve heard that before, but didn’t realize until this show that they’re actually saying “ma’am.” |

Try calling him "mum". It's all the rage.
