The Conners (ABC) — Season 1 Thread — premieres 10/16/18

So far, the reviews are pretty good. I do think ABC overreacted by firing Barr. They should have suspended her from the first few episodes. And she will be missed. But she wasn't the only person or reason I watched the series. I do like all of these characters (well, save for DJ maybe), so I will give this a chance.

I never saw Roseanne or last year reboot, but I am kinda interested without her. For some reason. I don’t really like her in general, but rest of cast are great. The trailer seemed fun...

You're not the only one who thought ABC overreacted, Daytripper. So does ABC, now.

Yea go listen to her interview yesterday with Joe Rogan , I wasn't sure either way and I think she can be funny but after hearing entire reasoning behind the tweet, yea she got screwed big time out of her life's work.

I’d be willing to do a trade: Disney brings her back and James Gunn to Guardians of the Galaxy 3 at the same time.

I watched the reboot and I thought Goodman was the only actor giving a decent performance, -I was particularly shocked at how awful Laurie Metcalf was. Roseanne just sort of belonged there because it was her platform. It's hard to rev up much enthusiasm for this version.

I agree about Metcalf during that season. But I wonder if there were factors at play that will be gone now. I'll be giving this a shot but willd rop it quickly if it's as bad as some of the episodes were during that short last season. QUite frankly the show was never soemthing that needed to come back. Rosanne was always overrated and the better members of the cast went on to do far better things.

This will be like Threes Company without Jack Tripper or Happy Days without the Fonz. I can't see it succeeding.

I’m not a really big fan of Roseanne on her show or her real life personality. I did somewhat enjoy the reboot last year though and do think it’s going to be weird not having her on while the rest of the cast remains. Probably would have been better off cancelling it even though that would have sucked for those not involved. I’ll be surprised if this does well enough to continue past a season but who knows.

No. Racist trolls don't deserve a platform, regardless of their self-serving justifications.

The first couple of episodes were kind of bad, but once they found their footing again, I thought it was pretty good. It had its moments.

I'm still waiting for it to be released on DVD.

If ABC changes its mind, they can always just bring her character back to life, like they did with John Goodman's.

John Goodman is looking really bad in the promos. Not sure if it's just his weight loss or old age.

I would say its the weight loss. I think this is going to flop.

Haven't watched it yet, but based on last year's episodes, what's the over/under on a VSE about Becky's drinking, most likely with an intervention?

Yeah, but would she return? I bet she wouldn't. She feels royally fucked over. Not only by the network, but the cast too. None came to her defense after the tweet. Goodman, Metcalf and Gilbert have all reached out to her recently. She hasn't responded.

Whether it's a ratings flop or not, I certainly was not expecting this:

Hmm, didn't expect that to be her cause of death.
And yes, Goodman does look bad.

Can you imagine all the loose skin he has?

And what was with him deep-throating a sausage? WTF??

Re: The Conners (ABC) — Season 1 Thread — premieres 10/16/18

OK, that was pretty damn good. Everyone was on their game and the writing was pure classic "Roseanne". Save for the rearranging of the kitchen scene with the coffee maker, Metcalf has dialed the overacting way back. But even that scene was not as over the top as last year. I laughed out loud a few times and even got misty eyed here and there. Job well done!
