They should bring Arnie Thomas or Jackie Thomas back on the show.

Could it be Clooney?

I totally forgot about the baby Jerry. I assumed it would be Johnny Galecki wanting to get back together.

Well, he got married. But thought he continued being a partner at the lunch box.

I thought Galecki too. Since "The Big Bang Theory" wraps up this year, he'll be on more episodes of "The Conners" next season for sure.

It'd be really lame if they were pimping the "return" of a character who's already been on at least twice in the Roseanne/Conners revival.

Here is the description of next week's episode. It may give away the returning character (not sure).

Spoiler:
As Darlene grapples with a life-changing offer from Ben, an unexpected conversation with David turns her world even more upside down. Relationship problems lead Jackie to the bottom of the bottle at the last place she remembers being truly happy. Becky's hopes of a happily ever after with Emilio are jeopardized when Dan delivers alarming news.

Yeah, they probably only wanted one standing restaurant/bar set, so they went with that one. Like another poster said, these three camera sitcoms are filmed on a stage, so they have a limited amount of space, which is why in sitcoms everything usually takes place in a limited number of places. If they need an occasional principal’s office, hospital waiting room, clasroom, or travel agent’s office, they’ll just redecorate one of the standing sets for that scene.

Just like Fred and Andy.....the Lobo went by the wayside never to be explained again. And to some extent, Jerry Garcia too. Who was briefly mentioned on the first episode of the "Roseanne" revival being off on a boat.
It seems like they didn’t want to bother introducing any more adult children, and instead want to focus on Becky and Darlene. Even DJ barely has anything to do. Andy and Jerry got Chuck Cunninghammed.

Re: The Conners (ABC) — Season 1 Thread — premieres 10/16/18

ugh! I really hope they don't use 'ICE' and Emilio as a storyline!

This feeds right into the cliche of Hollywood liberalism having blinders on when it comes to being in tune with the what the rest of the country feels.
So boring to have this shoved down our throats in order to watch this show.

If the writers could present this to us in a way that doesn't take sides it would be one thing but you know they are going to demonize ICE as being some evil force ruining people's lives. I'm not a Trump supporter or a Republican but this is the kind of thing that drives people away from watching the show.

There are no renaissance faires in the Illinois area that operate during the winter.

You should turn to The Goldbergs on Wednesday night. It's a stunningly accurate chronological series of 80s pop culture references.

Oh, I've made plenty of comments about the inaccuracies in The Goldbergs threads.

Maybe the Renaissance Winter Faire is next to the Rite Aid in Lanford.

Was anyone else hoping that Jackie's boyfriend had called ICE on Becky's baby dad and that Dan would then go beat the crap out of him?

Lanford, IL, isn’t a real place, either.

The series must exist in a strange parallel universe where Illinois has Rite-Aids, Renaissance Fairs in the winter, and a small city called Lanford that’s an hour away from Chicago.

Lanford is based on Elgin, IL which is approximately an hour away from Chicago.

So that's 3 shows I'm watching that's tackled either the Mexican deportation or migrant family separation story line this season - The Conners, Murphy Brown and Shameless.
There are probably others that I'm not watching doing it as well.

Last week they had Dan make a mealy-mouthed statement that he didn't approve of Illegals, "but..."
At least Matthew Broderick is gone (I hope he's gone), since he's been surprisingly awful in the show (though to be fair, it could be the material since it's a terribly-conceived character).

I think it's a combination of both the material and his acting. I've never seen Broderick turn in a bad performance until now. But who knows if the character was written better. I was stunned to see the return of the Lunch Box after we were just talking about it. Pleasant surprise.

Anyone else gotten used to not having Roseanne on the show? I have...and its not so bad without her. Some episodes are better than others, but it seems to be holding its own.

I'm enjoying it more without Roseanne. I always found her character annoying.

I'm a huge fan of the original run, and loved Roseanne in it. Season 10 (the revival) however she was easily one of the weakest links. I think the show has been great without her... and I love the other characters re getting more interesting story arcs with her absence.

Jackie's meltdown in the lunchbox was heartbreaking...

Re: The Conners (ABC) — Season 1 Thread — premieres 10/16/18

I don't think they pushed Jackie's breakdown enough. It should have been filled with rage and anger and instead we got her sad sack I'm a loser version basically feeling like she didn't deserve anything better in her life.

I would have like to see her really create a moment with a complete emotional breakdown curled up in a ball on the floor quivering with fear while Dan and Darlene looked at each other wondering what to do.

But that would have been too 'real' for a show like this.

Hopefully Matthew Broderick is mercifully released from ever appearing again along with Emilio. His character was basically a walking stereotype that would add nothing to future storylines.

I'd rather see Becky battle her alcoholism while trying to support herself as a single mom working a dead end job while still finding a way to get up everyday and keep going. To me that is a million more times interesting and something viewers of this show will be able to relate to way more than an illegal immigrant trying to stay in the US because he had sex with a local.

Re: The Conners (ABC) — Season 1 Thread — premieres 10/16/18

Roseanne spinoff The Conners was not among ABC’s early series renewals announced this morning. That is because the network is still finalizing deals with the core cast

“We are close,” Karey Burke said following her first TCA executive session as ABC Entertainment President.

Season 2 is expected to consist of 13 episodes, up from the 11 episodes in the current first season and the nine for the lone season of the Roseanne revival.

The cast of The Conners is led by Roseanne alums including Sara Gilbert who also serves as an executive producer, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf and Lecy Goranson.

The blue-collar family sitcom is averaging 9.3 million total viewers and a 2.1 adults 18-49 rating (Live+3). It is the season’s No. 1 new comedy in total viewers and 18-49 and ABC’s second highest rated series.

Is there a reason they don't mention DJ as one of the main actors? Why is he barely featured on the show? I don't remember that much about the original show, but was his role always so small compared to the 2 girls when they were kids?

Pretty much. He was really young when he started on the show, and they didn’t really start giving storylines until he was a teenager and the show was on its downward spiral. DJ dated Heather Matarazzo for a few episodes and developed an interest in filmmaking.

I would imagine this is potentially getting cancelled due to the hefty pricetag of Goodman and Metcalf with only serviceable ratings.
