Oh, I didn't realize it was only gonna be 20 episodes this season. =O Wonder if they're gearing up to end it with this season or the next now that they'll finally hit their goalpost of 300 episodes.

Re: Supernatural (CW) -- Season 14 Thread -- Premieres 10/11/18

I think the reduced order has more to do with Jensen and Jared not wanting to do as many episodes than the network wanting to wind the show down. I think it is still one of their higher rated shows.

Basically. I think they probably have one more season that they will do and season 15 will be the last with probably a 13 episode order.

I thought the premier was decent. Nice seeing Bobby stick around and seeing what Michael was up too was interesting. Lucifer's vessel still being alive and Jack being depowered(?) I didn't get but I'll see where they go with it. Good start so far.

Re: Supernatural (CW) -- Season 14 Thread -- Premieres 10/11/18

The CW said the slightly reduced episode order was due to scheduling reasons.

They have 2 new midseason shows to get it.....Roswell, NM and In the Dark. Plus they also have iZombie and The 100 to get in as well.

So I can see Supernatural's 14th season wrapping up around early April. They can run more new episodes with no breaks.

Plus, 14 seasons in, I think losing 2-3 episodes is no big deal. Supernatural has always had a few filler episodes every season.

Well per Jensen himself it was due to them wanting to work less to spend time with family.

Yeah figured that was also the case.

3 episodes of work taken out now gives those guys 24-25 extra days to spend with their wives and kids.

They can actually leave Vancouver and spend that time back in their homes.

Yep the reduced order probably is in both the actors and the networks best interests.

per the article Jensen alluded that by reducing the number of eps they are more likely to sign for more years which CW might want due to popularity.

So win-win!

Re: Supernatural (CW) -- Season 14 Thread -- Premieres 10/11/18

I finished the episode this afternoon.

it was a fun return. Liked having everyone back including the new version of Bobby. I'm sure they will get Michael out of Dean in a few weeks. That shootout near the end with Bobby and Mary was fun.

Kind of weird having Mark Pelligrino acting and not playing Lucifer.

Totally forgot that Anael is Jensen's real life spouse until I looked her up.

Re: Supernatural (CW) -- Season 14 Thread -- Premieres 10/11/18

So, the guy hosting Lucifer was a homicidal psycho even before Lucifer took him over. They're implying he killed his own family.
I figured it would take longer to get Michael out of Dean. Unless he's faking.
Wonder where Michael went? Into the king of the werewolves?
Maybe that geeky hunter who ended up married to a werewolf will make an appearance. Can't remember his name.

Re: Supernatural (CW) -- Season 14 Thread -- Premieres 10/11/18

Thursday's episode was pre-empted in the Los Angeles due to the fires.

No re-airs scheduled, so I had to watch it on the CW app.

I enjoyed the episodes that aired the last 2 weeks including this one. The one last week that dealt with the horror movie killer was really fun.

This one had some fun elements too. Seems like Mary and Bobby are getting closer as well.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan to return as John Winchester for episode 300.

He hasn’t appeared since season 2.

Thread has been quiet, but I’ve enjoyed season 14 thus far. Nothing really big to talk about, but mostly consistent. The episode with Jack dying and coming back recently was pretty good.

Yeah, the show is consistent and it is what it is at this point. It'll be interesting what they do with Cas being owed to the nothing or whatever they call it.

Nice. Didn't figure he'd ever come back.

Gonna be weird though with Mary and newBobby's budding relationship perhaps?

Re: Supernatural (CW) -- Season 14 Thread -- Premieres 10/11/18

Great milestone episode. It was nice seeing JDM back as John Winchester and the family dynamic. Only thing is that JDM has aged considerably since he was on the show and he looks much older now. So it seemed odd that this was John from 2 years before the show began. The goodbye was very emotional.

Liked the alternate reality forming with Dean as a wanted con man and Sam as some Kale internet guru.

Damn... this was a lot to deal with. Not sure if I could watch it again, but it's right up there with "In the Beginning" and "The Song Remains the Same"....

Re: Supernatural (CW) -- Season 14 Thread -- Premieres 10/11/18

someone remind me, did JDM want to leave the show for greener pastures or was the father figure always supposed to be eliminated fairly early on? Love JDM, except for Negan, and its a shame he wasn't around for a handful of seasons initially.

John Winchester was never supposed to be a permanent fixture on the show. It was a creative choice to kill him off to give the boys their drive and incentive.

Also, JDM left for greener pastures. He got a huge season-long gig on Greys Anatomy, which was probably a much bigger payday.

I think the father was supposed to be a recurring character on some level, but JDM suddenly became a hot property in network television right around the same time. Once the offers started pouring in, they wrote him off.

Was this recent episode a stand alone? I'm behind.

For the most part yes, but it does tie into previous weeks because Dean is:

Spoiler:
Trying to rid himself of his possession of Michael and they are experimenting with a new way to do it.

The dinner scene and the scene between Dean and John were heartbreaking.
