JAY HERNANDEZ STARS AS THOMAS MAGNUM IN A MODERN TAKE ON THE CLASSIC SERIES ABOUT A DECORATED FORMER NAVY SEAL WHO, UPON RETURNING HOME FROM AFGHANISTAN, REPURPOSES HIS MILITARY SKILLS TO BECOME A PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR, ON THE SERIES PREMIERE OF "MAGNUM P.I.," MONDAY, SEPT. 24
Jay Hernandez, Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton and Stephen Hill Star
"I Saw the Sun Rise" - Jay Hernandez stars as Thomas Magnum in a modern take on the classic series about a decorated former Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator in Hawaii, on the series premiere of MAGNUM P.I., Monday, Sept. 24 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Jay Hernandez, Perdita Weeks, Zachary Knighton and Stephen Hill star.
A charming rogue, an American hero and a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, Magnum lives in a guest cottage on Robin's Nest, the luxurious estate where he works as a security consultant to supplement his P.I. business. The "majordomo" of the property is Juliet Higgins, a beautiful and commanding disavowed MI:6 agent whose second job is to keep Magnum in line, with the help of her two Dobermans. When Magnum needs back-up on a job, he turns to his trusted buddies and fellow POW survivors, Theodore "TC" Calvin, a former Marine chopper pilot who runs Island Hoppers, a helicopter tour business, and Orville "Rick" Wright, a former Marine door-gunner-turned-impresario of Oahu's coolest nightclub and the most connected man on the island. Suspicious of Magnum's casual attitude and presence at his crime scenes, Detective Gordon Katsumoto (Tim Kang)
finds that he and Magnum are more alike than either of them care to admit. With keys to a vintage Ferrari in one hand, aviator sunglasses in the other, and an Old Dsseldorf longneck chilling in the fridge, Thomas Magnum is back on the case!
REGULAR CAST:
Jay Hernandez (Thomas Magnum)
Perdita Weeks (Juliet Higgins)
Zachary Knighton (Orville "Rick" Wright)
Stephen Hill (Theodore "TC" Calvin)
WRITTEN BY: Peter M. Lenkov & Eric Guggenheim
DIRECTED BY: Justin Lin

From the creators/producers of Hawaii Five-O. Use your best judgement whether or not this show appeals to you.
It takes place in the same universe as Hawaii Five-O, but no crossover is planned as of right now.
Justin Lin directed the Pilot. He also directed the Pilots for SWAT and Scorpion, so he seems to be CBS's guy for high profile shows.

Re: Magnum P.I. (CBS) -- Reboot of 1980s show -- Premieres 9/24/18
I think this is going to be a total train wreck but at least it's an action popcorn show so I'll give it a shot. Anything other than another dry legal or federal/state investigation show.

Wife and I watched it. We're big fans of the original and we enjoyed it. We're on board for the season.
And yes it is the same plot as the original Pilot. Watching it now.

It suffered from some pilot ep sort of issues as far as edits and timing goes but that's to be expected. It's well cast outside of the lead but that's not really fair to the actor.
He wasn't bad it's more that he is being ask to cover a career defining role of Tom Selleck from back in the day.
Over all It wasn't bad for an action popcorn sort of show. The location helps of course being everything they shoot looks amazing in HD.
Oh and random nerd rage as once again my personal pet peeve of a show treating full size gold bars as if they have the no weight shows up again.

It was okay. At least he was getting his ass kicked like Magnum.
I noticed that at least one 5-0 character crossed over.

It was fun. That's all you can really ask for in a Pilot like this introducing everyone.
Magnum wrecking 2 Ferrari's and getting his ass kicked twice.
Yeah and surprised to see Dr. Cunha from H50. I'm sure if this gets picked up for a full season, they'll cross over more H50 characters and eventually get to some bigger crossover.
I don't mind Higgins being a woman. Perdita Weeks is quite attractive.
I really liked Zac Knighton as "Rick" Perfect character for his acting style.
It's been many many years since I've seen the original show, so I didn't remember one of Magnum's buddies being killed off.
I checked out some of the comments and most seemed to like it (at least responding to Jay's Twitter feed) But, I'm sure some of the old timer viewers who like Selleck hate it.
Trouble with all these shows airing and not seeing them live is that you only have time to maybe watch 2 at most before bed. That's why many shows in this forum don't get instantaneous live comments right away. I only watched Magnum tonight as I have to work at 6am tomorrow. I'll have to watch Manifest, The Good Doctor and others later on.

DOesn't matter how many roles James Remar does over the years, he will always be Ajax from the Warriors to me
Had one hell of a consistent career, very few years since 1979 that he has had less than 5 acting credits

finished watching the first episode
5.7/10 for me
Has potential but nothing really stood out and yelled "wow damm"
Not terrible characters but none immediately likeable like Hawaii five 0
I feel the crossover to prop up poor ratings is going to come sooner rather than later

Put it this way, Breaking Bad 9.5, game of thrones 9.5
If you can find a long running tv show (let's say over 3 seasons) that is rated under 5.0 on imdb (in the last 15 years, can't count pre internet shows), that would be a great find indeed
Even really trashy reality shows which have a lot of haters like Party Down South is rated higher than 5

It was enjoyable enough to keep watching for now.
I'm out as soon as Magnum and Higgins get it on though!
I don't think he's been cast yet so Robin has to be a Selleck cameo right?

It was mentioned in one of the scenes that Magnum knew Robin but in the original series they never met. It was alluded that Higgins was Robin Masters. He was supposedly extremely private and never talked to his employees except for Higgins. Was he even shown on the series? It's been so long; correct me if I'm mistaken.

He was seen once in the episode where Higgins was kidnapped by people looking for some recording but Magnum later accused Higgins of hiring an actor.

Robin was seen and voiced by Orson Wells in the original series (though they never showed his face). He and Magnum had met. It was always an assumption that Higgins had someone jet set around the world as Robin to throw people off.
But as I mentioned in the reboot news thread, the new series takes any of the controversy that Higgins is Robin out of play especially now since they knew Robin as a journalist during the war.

Shot of Robin's Nest Estate from the show, looks like they are going with all CGI or at least some basic composite build up for the estate. Boooooo! I can understand why of course, I doubt it's easy to find a $$$$$$$$ water front home in the modern day willing to let you set up a hollywood filming location for an entire tv season. Odds are the bulk of the show is shot more inland..
