Marvel Female Superhero Project in the Works at ABC

Wasn't sure where else to put this.

Marvel Female Superhero Project in the Works at ABC From ‘Wonder Woman’ Writer
By JOE OTTERSON

ABC has given a production commitment to a series that will feature female Marvel superheroes, Variety has confirmed.

The project hails from Allan Heinberg, who wrote the screenplay for “Wonder Woman.” The exact details of the project are being kept under wraps, so no word yet on exactly which characters from the Marvel universe will be featured. Heinberg will executive produce along with Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb, with Marvel TV and ABC Studios producing. Heinberg is working on the series under his overall deal with ABC Studios.

A veteran comic book writer for Marvel and DC, Heinberg’s television credits include “The Catch,” “The Naked Truth,” “Party Of Five,” “Sex And The City,” “Gilmore Girls,” “The O.C.,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Looking,” and “Scandal.”

Should the project move forward, it would be the latest Marvel project to air on the broadcaster. ABC launched “Agents of SHIELD” back in 2013, with the network renewing the show for a sixth season back in May. The sixth season will consist of 13 episodes. ABC also previously aired the Marvel shows “Agent Carter” and “Inhumans,” which have both been canceled.

There has been much speculation about whether or not any other Marvel shows would land at ABC, given the fact that Disney is preparing to launch its own streaming service next year. As Variety exclusively reported on Tuesday, Marvel is in early development on multiple limited series that would focus on characters featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe like Loki and Scarlet Witch.

Marvel also currently has five shows on Netflix: “The Punisher,” “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” and “Iron Fist.” The latter three shows all debuted second seasons this year, while “Daredevil” is expected to launch its third yet this year. Marvel also produces the Freeform drama series “Cloak & Dagger.”

Deadline first reported the Heinberg project.
Well, you know they can't be from the Spider-verse, MCU or any of the Fox owned licenses. So who would these Marvel super heroines be?

In typical Marvel fashion, further details are being kept close to the vest, but I hear the drama is based on lesser-known Marvel characters. There have been a number of fairly obscure female superhero team-ups that have appeared sporadically in Marvel comics over the years, including A-Force, Lady Liberators and Fearless Defenders.
ABC is still plugging away at trying these Marvel shows. Cancelled Agenter Carter, Inhumans was terrible and was cancelled. They passed on Most Wanted... Wasn't John Ridley supposed to do a show? And New Warriors has a pilot out there that nobody wanted. I wish that one would land on the streaming service.

It is going to be weird to have two different entities produce shows that are said to take place in the same universe. I wonder if there will eventually be a restructuring to where Marvel Television falls under Marvel Studios.

It's an interesting set up. Marvel Studios is it's own entity that answers to Disney. Marvel Television answers to Marvel Entertainment. It would make sense to push them under the same umbrella.

I wonder which character it'll be? Way back, when Sony was digging through the Spider-Man catalog, the rumor was that they had no interest in Spider Woman and chucked her back over to Marvel proper. Now that they're expanding the Spider-Verse, I'm curious as to why Sony hasn't latched onto a Spider Woman feature. Maybe that rumor is true? Into the Spider-Verse seems to be focused on Miles and Spider-Gwen.

Who has the license for She-Hulk? Does that fall under Universal or did she stick with Marvel?

I haven't liked any of the ABC Marvel shows, so probably won't even take a look at this one when it comes out.

This chart says that it's Universal, and it's not shared.

But it also says that the Leader and the Abomination are not shared, and both were in TIH, which is Marvel Studios, so that doesn't make any sense

Since Disney got 20th century Fox, that means they can use all of foxes characters now right? Would be kinda cool to see an Invisible Woman tv show, or a Gwen Stacy then you could have Spider-Gwen. but thats Sony
