Doctor Who pretty much doesn’t have an official canon, with hundreds of novels, comic books, and audio plays out there in addition to the tv show, and fans tend to pick and choose their own personal canon.

Jodie Whittaker as the new Doctor. So far, I like her a lot, but the plot of the this first episode, while not terrible, isn't a real grabber. Starting with four companions is an interesting touch. Can't wait to see her grow into the role...
Oh, and she needs a TARDIS. ASAP.

Was there no credit sequence?

I had read the opening credits wouldn't appear until the 2nd episode.

My DVR has recorded two things for this episode: a 105 minute "The Woman Who Fell" at 1:45 pm Sunday and a 120 minute "Special Edition - The Woman Who Fell" at 8 pm Sunday.
What's the difference? Is the longer running time in the "special edition" because it's a longer cut of the episode? Or is the extra time from extra interviews and "behind the scenes" stuff?

My 1:45 recording had 15 minutes of some wrap party that Imdidn’t watch. Special edition is likely just more of that.
I didn’t care for the episode. The characters were fine, Whittaker was good, but the plot was very meh.

The new outfit is as bad as I thought it would be. Whatever the costume department was thinking they need to change it.

I liked it. The new doc is pretty entertaining so far (and yeah, I agree she's giving off a strong Tennant vibe) and I'm liking the companions, although 3 may be a bit much (
I loved the cliffhanger at the end. Agree the Doctor's outfit is a little too cornball - getting strong Mork and Mindy vibes from the suspenders there.

I loved this first episode. Chibnall is clearly making a statement here. The very look of it felt distinct from the previous seasons. Whittaker feels a little like Tennant but the show feels like it’s trying very hard to bring back the feel of the Fifth Doctor. From the group of companions to the new costume and the imagery of the end credits, everything feels very early 80s except the production values. They even make a big deal of this Doctor being scrambled because she hasn’t finished her full regeneration cycle, which she needs sleep for. The Doctor sleeping after a regeneration was used in Tennant’s first Christmas special, but it was a huge plot point in the first arc of episodes of the Fifth Doctor’s tenure, with a special room on the TARDIS just for resting after a regeneration and the Master interrupting the Doctor’s rest with bad consequences.
I’m excited to see where this goes. IIRC Chibnall said there’s no series arc this season, so I suspect we’ll get the TARDIS back in the next episode.

I've just watched the first half so far and I have to say that it is nice having a Doctor that I can understand again. I'm glad to be back on board.

I think the outfit is supposed to be bad. She has to be reminded she's a woman and she says something like "I haven't shopped for women's clothes in a long time".

I thought the whole scene was a throw back to Smith with his transformation, I liked the scene not 100% on the outfit yet.

Another complaint of mine: making a functioning sonic screwdriver from random Earth circuit boards is absurd even for Dr Who.

The heart of the sonic she made is a crystal which I believe came from the alien pod.

Just watched it. I don't have cable, but the BBCA app on my Roku allowed streaming this episode with no sign-in. I may spring for a season pass on Amazon.
I like Whittaker a lot as The Doctor. She definitely strikes a lighter tone than Capaldi. I'm looking forward to seeing how she settles into the character in these first few episodes.
I even like her outfit. Yes, it's goofy, but it feels like a bit of a throwback to OldWho. I can see it being more appealing to kids than the suits worn by the last few Doctors. I foresee a ton of girls (and probably some guys) going as the 13th Doctor for Halloween. Her outfit is a lot more distinctive than the NuWho men have worn.
At first I thought that pod thing that landed on Earth might be the TARDIS going through some sort of regeneration of its own, but nope.
The story for this first episode was pretty 'meh.' In the Predator movies, don't the Predators at least try to hunt humans who are potentially dangerous as their prey? Soldiers, cops, etc.? This alien's big challenge to become the leader of his people is to bring home the head of Karl the crane operator? WTF?
Sounds like the premiere got very good viewer numbers. Hopefully next week's story is better and the audience sticks around.
