Lodge 49 (AMC) -- S: Wyatt Russell -- premieres 8/6/18

The series premiere of "Lodge 49" airs Monday, August 6th at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT titled "As Above, So Below." Dud finds himself deposited by fate at the doorstep of Lodge 49, a dusty fraternal order which offers cheap beer and strange alchemical philosophies. This episode is written by Jim Gavin and executive produced by Randall Einhorn, who also directed this episode.

"Lodge 49" is a light-hearted, endearing modern fable set in Long Beach, California about a disarmingly optimistic local ex-surfer, Dud (Wyatt Russell), who's drifting after the death of his father and collapse of the family business. Dud serendipitously finds himself on the doorstep of a rundown fraternal lodge, where a middle-aged plumbing salesman and "Luminous Knight" of the order, Ernie (Jennings), welcomes him into a world of cheap beer, easy camaraderie and the promise of Alchemical mysteries that may - or may not - put Dud on the path to recover the idyllic life he's lost. Jim Gavin (Author, Middle Men) serves as creator, writer, and executive-producer alongside showrunner Peter Ocko (Pushing Daisies, The Office). Additional executive producers include Paul Giamatti ("Billions," Sideways, Outsiders, Hoke), Dan Carey (Outsiders, Hoke, John Dies at the End, All Is Bright) and Jeff Freilich ("Halt and Catch Fire," "Grace and Frankie").
This feels like a show that's been cancelled before it even airs. It can join Feed the Beast, Low Winter Sun, Rubicon, etc.

I saw the promo for this the other day and it didn't do anything for me.

Sounds a bit like "Northern Exposure" in tone, for those old enough to remember "Northern Exposure".

I only found out about it because I saw it on the guide after BCS. Recorded it.

Anyone watch?

It was...odd. But kind of intriguing? Hard to describe. I'll see where it goes for now. A lot of the reviews I read say it's pretty rewarding if you stick with it.

I liked it but found it funny that during the commercials they kept running promos begging the audience to stick with it and that some really cool stuff was going to happen later in the season. Halfway through I started to wonder "What's the hook of this show?" and that was when the ads kept popping up and by the end of episode 1, we still haven't really gotten anything to make this a must see. I do however like the cast and since I'll be watching Saul all season, might as well stick with this one too and see if it can develop into more than just a mildly amusing hang.

Those are close to my own thoughts. I like the different vibe than what we normally get from cable these days. It does seem like a hook is missing for the audience and my interest could quickly wane.

But any show that uses a Lee Hazlewood song (and not one of his well-known hits like Some Velvet Morning) in the pilot can't be all bad.

Watched it the first commercial break after BCS.

Can't say it held my interest.

What I saw reminded me of John from Cincinnati, and that was enough to ditch it.

I think the only show I ever stuck with from a lead-in was Orphan Black on BBC America, after it debuted after Doctor Who. And that show had a freaking awesome opening scene that made wantbto stick around.

Re: Lodge 49 (AMC) -- S: Wyatt Russell -- premieres 8/6/18

I haven't been able to get to the episode from last night yet, but I have been really enjoying this one. I really enjoy all of the various characters interaction, especially scenes between Dud and Liz. Sonya Cassidy has been a great discovery on this one.

I went into this knowing it was more of a slow burn, but the pacing has been good for me. Larry's fantastical visions at the end of last week's episodes have me intrigued, but the show has been keeping my attention with the mythology that's been presented so far.

^ Agreed. Strong cast and an eccentric storyline that I keep coming back for.

Love the laid-back, "Big Lebowski" vibe of this show. And Bruce Campbell is a perfect addition late in the season. I'm definitely in for Season 2.

I did not like the bullying John Goodman in Big Lebowski, but I get the similarities. I love Lodge 49. Damn near obsessed by it. I am going to fabricate 'wheel rings' and see if they sell. I would join Lodge 49 in a heartbeat - looks like a method of community that we have lost. Fun fact: Nat King Cole, who performed eden ahbez's "Nature Boy" belonged to California's Lodge 49. Look it up!

Re: Lodge 49 (AMC) -- S: Wyatt Russell -- premieres 8/6/18

"Lodge 49" season two premieres on Monday, August 12th at 10:10 p.m. ET/PT. On the season premiere episode, "All Circles Vanish," the pool shop is under new ownership. Dud recuperates from his shark attack while searching for Ernie. Ernie deals with the aftermath of his adventure with El Confidente. Liz enters the TempJoy workforce.

Season two of this modern fable set in Long Beach, CA centers on likable "Squire" and ex-surfer Sean "Dud" Dudley (Wyatt Russell), whose beloved fraternal order -- the Ancient and Benevolent Order of the Lynx -- is suffering under new rule by an ill-suited leader. Despite his "Knight" and mentor Ernie's (Brent Jennings) lost faith, and his twin sister Liz's (Sonya Cassidy) struggle with their past, Dud believes he is the key to restoring the Lodge to its former grandeur and putting the rightful king on the throne. In addition to Russell, Jennings and Cassidy, this season's cast includes Linda Emond (Connie), Eric Allan Kramer (Scott) and David Pasquesi (Blaise).

Jim Gavin (Author, Middle Men) serves as creator, writer and executive-producer alongside showrunner Peter Ocko (Pushing Daisies, The Office). Additional executive producers include Paul Giamatti (Billions, Sideways, Outsiders, Hoke), Dan Carey (Outsiders, Hoke, John Dies at the End, All Is Bright) and Jeff Freilich (Halt and Catch Fire, Grace and Frankie). Lodge 49 is an AMC Studios production.

Re: Lodge 49 (AMC) -- S: Wyatt Russell -- premieres 8/6/18

Think this season has been much more hit and miss than season 1, but last Monday's episode was insane (in a good way). It was worth watching through the ups and downs just to get some of those payoffs.
