The first video came across as dark and a thriller / drama. The second one played out more like a romance / love story. I prefer the former... If it is a thriller, I'm all in.

Watched the first episode. This might take a couple to get a grasp of things.

This show is odd to say the least but also surprisingly watchable. I will be on episode 7 soon enough.

A taste of how odd this show is...a computer starts to weep in an earlier episode and sheds a tear...no, seriously, really...I am not joking, stop looking at me like that, it actually happens.

I watched the first episode last night, watching the second tonight. It is really stylized and enjoyable...but very confusing as to what's really going on. But I'm in for the ride...

It takes the first three episodes to set everything up. Each of them is totally dependent on each other and you literally have to pay attention to everything that happens. I love shows like this. Watching the 5th episode now and some puzzle pieces are clicking, at least for me... and the leads are fantastic!

Is this the project for which Emma Stone got paid the money to make her the top or second highest paid lady performer? Just curious as haven't seen her in much since Battle of the Sexes.

First ep. was trippy and confusing, then the second one started to hook me. Going to watch the third as I like the vibe. Seems like Wes Anderson mixed with David Lynch .

Okay okay. I’ll give it a shot. I watched 2/3 of the first episode and wrote it off as one of those accidental pitty Netflix acquisitions. Or bailouts. Whatever you call it.

So it gets good?

It gets pretty crazy as they go through the drug trial. Not to mention the real trial involving his brother.

This is one of the oddest shows I've ever watched. I'm currently on ep 7, & the entire time I thought this was taking place during a futuristic or dystopian 80's time period but the doctor just mentioned in episode 6 that he was born in '77 & he's looks to be around 40 yrs old. I'm still not grasping what exactly is happening, but continue to watch.

Just finished this and really enjoyed it. You definitely have to stick around through episode 10 to truly know what's real and what's not. Don't think this could have been pulled off with any other director or main leads, but it turned out to be a very satisfying trio.

It was written specifically for them too. Here is a good interview with the creator/writer:

I watched the first and didn't dig it. Looks like I have to stick with it a while.

The first episode just boredthe pants off of me. With so many other damn shows to catch up on these days I’m not sure I want to give it another chance...

Just finished the season, I loved it. Yes, first episode is slow, but it’s in sync with Owen's personality. Give the show a chance.

Just finished, it was pretty great. It reminded me a lot of Legion.

Yeah it's definitely a lot like Legion, but even quirkier and more accessible. It reminded me a bit of the investigator's plotline in Paprika as well (acceptance through movie tropes).

Re: Maniac (Netflix limited series) D: Fukunaga, S: Jonah Hill, Emma Stone -- 9/21/18

Finished the last episode last night. Did not like it. Of course, I might have missed a few things since there were many parts that bored the piss out of me and I went around the house doing other things. Could have something to do with the fact that I don't like Jonah Hill. At all. I like Emma Stone a great deal, but I thought she was just phoning it in here. Did they film this in like a week, and took everyone's first take? I could go into more, but I'll just leave it at that I just didn't like any aspect of it. Even the ending was stupid, and I thought I would be glad when it was over, but all it did was piss me off even further that there was just another thing on the pile that didn't make sense.

Just finished it today and easily my favorite show of 2018. Fantastic ending and award worthy performances by Emma Stone and Sonoya Mizuno.

Finished this last night. Not really sure what to make of it. You really do have to pay attention to everything. I will let this digest for a few days and see what emerges. I will say this however I was never bored and was compelled to finish it. It is a trip that is for sure.
