24 Jack Bauer prequel series in the works at FOX
https://deadline.com/2018/07/24-preq...an-1202436677/
I have learned that where the potential new installment would go is the past. I hear the new 24 series, now in active development at 20th TV and Imagine TV, will serve as a prequel to the original 2001 series. Written by Gordon, Cochran and Surnow, it is said to be in the vein of the original and will trace the origin story of CTU agent Jack Bauer, played by Kiefer Sutherland on 24 for eight seasons and on followup limited series 24: Live Another Day.
The Fox network and 24 producers 20th Century Fox, Imagine TV’s Brian Grazer and Gordon had been discussing new ideas for a 24 series since the end of 24: Legacy in 2017. The prequel is one of two 24 reboot ideas that are being developed, along with a legal thriller written by Gordon and Jeremy Doner.
Sutherland had indicated that he may be done playing the physically demanding role of Bauer who’s always on the run, putting his his life on the line to thwart another terrorist threat. Doing a prequel would allow Fox to bring back a beloved character without putting Sutherland through the grind of an action drama series again. (It’s worth noting that 24 produced 24 episodes in each of its eight seasons, plus a movie)
NBC and EuropaCorp recently did a TV series prequel to the Taken movie franchise with a younger version of the character played by Liam Neeson in the films, which was developed by a TV writer-producer. The 24 situation is different as the potential prequel series is being developed by the same creative brain trust, Gordon, Surnow and Cochran, that led the original series to a drama series Emmy award and all three of them know the Jack Bauer character inside and out. (The series also also earned Sutherland an Emmy.) This is somewhat reminiscent of CBS’ Young Sheldon prequel series, which hails from The Big Bang Theory team of Chuck Lorre and Steve Molaro.
24 was the first recent drama to get a revival treatment in the form of a limited series with the 2014 24: Live Another Day. It was followed by NBC’s Heroes Reborn and Fox’s Prison Break and The X-Files.

Casting a young Jack is going to be very hard.
I can’t think of anyone who looks like Kiefer and has his mannerisms.
Jack was 35 in the 1st season, so how far do you go back? Plus Kim was supposedly 15 or 16, so if you go back 10 years, she as a small child along with Teri would have to be in the picture.

Don't mind a Bauer prequel series but it should be only a few years before and they can CGI de-age everyone
Kiefer needs to grow balls and not whinge about action

No one will like this (I'm not quite sure I even do
), but since they are spit-balling ideas and--for whatever reason--want the show to be tied to its roots somehow, what about this.
When season 1 was airing, it had mediocre ratings, and I still remember the cast came out publicly and stated that if they got renewed for season 2, one idea would be that they all played different characters in a different plot for the second season. Similar to, for example, "American Horror Story"--same actors, different plot, different characters.
What if you brought back a decent portion of the old cast, plus new faces, and just had a fresh storyline and fresh characters? Maybe you shake it up and Sutherland is the villain, and Dennis Haysbert or Carlos Bernard or Sarah Clarke is the hero. And you sort of treat the show as a reboot anthology series.

I saw on another board a few names being thrown out as potential young Jacks. Again, none of this is official or being considered. Just random names:

Alex Pettyfer

Mike Vogel

Mike Vogel is already a few years older than Sutherland was during the first season of 24. Plus he was on Under The Dome.

If Vogel shaves, he could probably still pass for a 20-something Jack.
He was just on the NBC action show "The Brave", so he can pull off being an action hero. But, he doesn't have Kiefer's gravitas.

When Legacy was airing, I thought a twist was going to be that the show took place between the previous 24 seasons. For example, between season 6 and 7. But as the season went on, it became apparent that there was no twist and ultimately it was just terrible.
So, if they can’t get Kiefer and want a new lead again, just do a new season that takes place between seasons 3 and 4 (for example), and at least you could have the classic characters return as part of the ensemble cast - Michelle Dessler, Chloe, Palmer, Edgar, Curtis Manning, etc.

Ok so the physical demands of 24 episodes is a bit much, but Kiefer does need to do a mini series, just two X hour long episodes (that's non ad running time), to wrap up the Jack Bauer story
Jack can't go out captured by the Russians, has to be some kind of happily ever after or noble death

Probably won't happen, but I'd like to see a happy ending with Jack. Come back home to Los Angeles and be reunited with Kim and his granddaughter, who will probably be in Middle school or High School in the show's timeline.

^ Maybe they could write a scenario where the President of the United States has an unusually chummy relationship with the President of Russia and he could have arraigned Jack's release.

Reminds me. Biggest unresolved plot in 24 was the corrupt President Surarov of Russia. Jack protected him from assassination in season 5, but as season 8 revealed he was involved in the conspiracy to assassinate President Hassan and sanctioned the hitman to kill Renee.
He got off and Jack ended up being a fugitive and going to a Russian prison.

Re: 24 Jack Bauer prequel series in the works at FOX
I liked the Live Another Day ending about Jack. I view Bauer as the anti-James Bond.
James Bond gets the cool cars, nifty gadgets, and the beautiful women.
On the other hand, wherever Jack Bauer goes, people seem to die. His life will always be in shambles. No cool cars, his love interests die, etc. He’s the anti-Bond.
So the last scene of him in Russian custody seems like a good ending for me.

Re: 24 Jack Bauer prequel series in the works at FOX
I'm actually glad this prequel was never fully developed. I don't think anyone would have embraced another actor playing Jack Bauer no matter what year it was set. Kiefer made the character his own and it's one of the most iconic characters in TV history.
Story says they're going back to drawing board. I really don't know what else they could do at this point without it being a waste of time.
