Re: Frasier Revival coming to Paramount+

I’m going to watch this since I liked Frasier, but again no one asked for this. No one thought this was a good idea and none of the other cast?

Murphy Brown couldn’t even pull it off. Will and Grace got sort of lucky being the first (and the time between wasn’t as long), but that was a ratings turd after the second season.

Nope, it was based on the many many revival failures we've already witnessed.

Re: Frasier Revival coming to Paramount+

Actually I think Grammer has been asking for this for almost 20 years. I'm pretty dure they got as far as shooting a pilot with Laura Linney reprising her character.

If Paramount wants to reprise their IPs for new series, I say better this than the Pink Ladies from Grease.

To be fair, this is a spin-off rather than a revival. Different setting, different situation, and an entirely different cast besides the lead.

I think it’s a good movie to have Frasier return to Boston without the majority of the cast. It worked the first time. Might as well try it again.
While I do give them credit for that, it's going to be tough for lightning to strike twice. I don't think Frasier himself will be enough to make this work at this point - so they're really going to need some great characters from the rest of the cast to pull this off... which is always hard for a new/new-ish show.

And the Niles/Daphne will they/won’t they shit got old super quick yet they hammered it into the audience season after season.
You can say that about any show it seems. Friends with Ross/Rachel dragged it out 10 seasons.
Right from the first episode of a series, you can see who they're going to try the will they/won't they thing with. Standard formula.

I don't think the setting and situation matters all that much, and while the writing it important - I think the success will rest heavily on the cast. They have to be interesting and funny, or this will die.

which is why I don't get "the feels" for the series. I think the lack of returning cast as regular members will put a big damper on the series I like the chemistry in the old cast and its what made it good back in the day. The new folks in those stills, I dont know if I care enough to care about the story lines.

The new season of Justified with zero returning cast besides the lead is the same thing (and it’s total crap)

I only meant that unlike Murphy Brown, Mad About You, Will & Grace, And Just Like That, this isn't a revival by the traditional definition -- it has a different cast, location, situation set-up. It is the very definition of a spin-off.

Right, so we know what to call it now.... someone should change it in the thread title.

So if Grammer wins another Emmy does that mean it’ll be the fourth series he’s won one for playing Frasier Crane?!

No, it would be the second. He's been twice nominated for Best Supporting Actor for playing Frasier in Cheers and once nominated for Best Lead actor for playing Frasier in Wings (how embarrassing for the actual cast of that show -- this was before Guest Actor was a category), but lost both times. He's won 4 Emmys for playing Frasier in the show of the same name, and one well-deserved Emmy for his voiceover work as the legendary Sideshow Bob.

Yeah, I didn't laugh once during that trailer. Everything just felt so forced, clunky, and awkward.

Re: Frasier Revival coming to Paramount+

Yeah, nothing felt funny with that.
Like I said earlier, if the rest of the cast aren't good - then Grammer himself can't carry the show. Even Grammer himself feels off now.

So I guess Freddie is basically the Martin of this show (ie. regular guy contrasted against a hoity-toity guy). And is Frasier living next door to him? If he is, then it's kind of like Martin living with Frasier in the original series.

I’ll watch. Rodney aged a lot worse than Frazier. I grew up watching only fools and horses. Nicholas Lyndhurst is Rodney

Yeah, this didn't move me at all. I'll watch out of loyalty and the fact that I love the show and character but this seemed really unfunny to me. I'll probably watch the show where Lilith returns (again) as well. Those two actors have great chemistry together.

The only nice thing I can say about the trailer is that Jess Salgueiro is cute.

Because the unspoken implication is the character has zero connection to anyone in his past: no Cheers cast, no Frasier cast.

Re: Frasier Revival coming to Paramount+

I came across a clip of the Frasier finale and remembered that Frasier left Seattle because he wanted what the others had - " a new chapter"... and a big part of that was romantic.
Not sure if they're going to explain much of what he's been up to the last 20 years - but I wonder if he got married at all during that time. If not, then he would've gone 30 years unmarried - which is kind of unexpected for a character as romantic as Frasier is.

Re: Frasier Revival coming to Paramount+

Really never watched a ton of Frasier. Saw an episode here and there and I like the character as well as Kelsey Grammer. The new trailer didn’t catch my interest or make me laugh much.
