Frasier (Paramount+) - revival series - premieres 10/12/23

EXCLUSIVE: Another beloved sitcom is plotting a possible return. I have learned that Frasier star and executive producer Kelsey Grammer is fielding interest to put together a new Frasier series.

Unlike the slew of recent revivals of comedy series with the original cast and original creative auspices, including Will & Grace, Roseanne and Murphy Brown, I hear that Frasier is envisioned as a reboot, likely set in a new city, with the title character, played by Grammer, as a possible link to the Emmy-winning 1993 series.

Psychiatrist Frasier Craine already made a cross-country move once. He was introduced on the Boston-set NBC hit Cheers before getting his own spinoff series, Frasier, on which he returned to his hometown of Seattle to start a new life as a radio host and to reconnect with his father and brother.

I hear Grammer is currently meeting with writers who are pitching different concepts for the potential followup series. If the producers settle on a writer and a premise, the project could move beyond exploratory stage. Reps for Grammer and CBS TV Studios declined comment.

Frasier, created by the late David Angell, Peter Casey, and David Lee, is one of the most celebrated comedy series of the 1990s and 2000s. The show, produced by Grammer’s Grammnet Prods. and CBS TV Studios’ predecessor Paramount Network Television, ran on NBC for 11 seasons, from 1993 to 2004, and starred Grammer, David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, Peri Gilpin, and the late John Mahoney.

Frasier set a record for the most Emmy Awards won by a scripted series at the time, 37, including five consecutive Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series.

With Paramount Network TV/CBS Studios, where his Grammnet was once based, Grammer produced such successful series as Medium, Girlfriends and spinoff The Game. As an actor, following his 20-year stint as Frasier Craine on Cheers and Frasier, Grammer has largely stayed on the drama side in TV, most recently with a starring role on the upcoming Fox legal drama Proven Innocent.

The cynic in me wants to hate the whole concept of these things, but in reality Frazier is one of my all time favorite characters so the thought possibly seeing Grammer play him again actually makes me happy.

All these reboots are making it easier for me to tone down my TV viewing. No interest (although I did enjoy the original quite a bit). Same with Magnum PI, Murphy Brown...and whatever other new reboots we have coming this year.

Isn't doing a Frasier spin-off an easier thing and smarter thing to do than calling it a reboot? I mean, the show itself was a spinoff of Cheers, so why can't this new show just be a spinoff of Frasier?

I don't think a reboot works nearly as well without John Mahoney. His character was integral and the yin to Frasier's yang.

a limited series for this could be a lot of fun. He does a road trip, spends a show visiting in CT with Dianne, another one somewhere with Lilith, one with Roz and then finishes up in Boston at Cheers with Sam....

Cheers is probably my favorite comedy but I could never get into Frazier. I just didn't like the change of character. With that out of the way, I would watch the hell out of jpcamb's concept series.

Without John Mahoney this is a non-starter for me.

This I would tune in and check out although without Mahoney it would be missing something.

Murphy Brown we loved at the time but I get a feeling it is being rebooted just to take political shots. There are enough of those on right now. Current events is fine. A nightly chance to jab Trump or Trump supporters no thanks. Didn't watch Roseanne or Tim Allen for their takes either.

What if Frazier returned to Boston and Lilith? What if Cliff and Norm were part of the cast too? You'd watch it...we all would.

Frederick (Frasier's son) will be 30 next year(in the tv world) He could have his own family that Frazier could mix it up with.

That sounded familiar. Grammar tried to due this when Frasier ended in 2004.

They really should stop using the term reboot for everything. This would be a continuation or revival like the X-Files.

I’d be up for a continuation of Frasier. What would be interesting is having HIM move in with HIS son in an echo of the original series and then going from there perhaps...

re: Frasier (Paramount+) - revival series - premieres 10/12/23

I didn't watch the original so I doubt I'll watch this reboot. I could say that about a lot of reboots. I watched Magnum PI every now and then, a reboot may get the same treatment. I do watch Hawaii 50 where I seldom watched the original but then it's not really a reboot. It's a different show with the same title and overall scheme.
I watched Lost in Space, new and old. The new was a disappointment. I'm hoping the 2nd season is better.

I like this idea. His son can actually fill the role JM was playing as a counter to Frasier's personality.

I don’t see how Cliff and Norm are still alive. They would have both died from liver failure by now.

Maybe they should learn from the Murphy Brown reboot. Not everything needs to return.

Tony Shaloub has been busy on Broadway, but we love watching the Monk marathons. Wouldn't mind seeing that again but only if Natalie would come out of retirement.
