re: Frasier (Paramount+) - revival series - premieres 10/12/23

I guess Kelsey Grammer was recently on TV and talked about the reboot.

https://www.goldderby.com/article/20...-revival-cast/

Looks like that revival of “Frasier” is going to happen after all. In an appearance on “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” Kelsey Grammergave up some of the secrets of the “Frasier” revival. “It is a different story: the same group of characters, but in a different setting. Something has changed in their lives.” He then referenced the passing of the actor who played his father. “John Mahoney died over a year ago and we would deal with that, dad being gone.” The “we” could well included others from the “Frasier” cast including David Hyde-Pierce, who played the neurotic Niles; Jane Leeves as the English rose Daphne who finds love with Niles; and Peri Gilpin, who resonated as the raspy-voiced radio producer Roz.

In the series finale, Frasier was seen en route to Chicago, where he was hoping to make a new life with matchmaker Charlotte (Laura Linney). Grammer hinted that Frasier could still be living in the Windy City but was wary to reveal anything about his marital status. As for what his character is doing to keep himself busy these days, the actor says that decision is still up in the air. “He’s past the radio show. He might be an art dealer. He might be a professor. We don’t know yet.”

Grammer characterizes the reboot as a new chapter, rather than a continuation of the old storyline. Referencing the character’s history, first on “Cheers” and then on his own show, Grammer says “this will be the third act of ‘Frasier’ rather than trying to pick it up, like ‘Will & Grace’ did, right where they were.”

DISCUSS All things TV with Hollywood insiders in our red-hot forums

And that could be the key to finding further success at the Emmys. Remember, “Will & Grace” was all but ignored by the Emmy Awards for the first season of its revival. The original edition of “Frasier” ran for 11 seasons beginning in 1993 winning a then-record 37 Emmys before it signed off in 2004. That benchmark has since been eclipsed by “Game of Thrones,” which is looking to add to its haul of 47 Emmy Awards for its upcoming final season.

Grammer would certainly like to contend again. Among those Emmy wins for “Frasier” were four for him as Best Comedy Actor. That haul has him sharing first place with three other funny fellows: Carroll O’Connor (“All in the Family”), Michael J. Fox (“Family Ties”) and Jim Parsons (“The Big Bang Theory”).

So it's Frasier- just a continuation, not a reboot.

Good for them for keep getting work. I doubt I'd watch, I feel the character has long since played out- but Kelsey Grammer could end up playing the longest running character in TV history.

Not even close...some of those soap opera stars have been on a series for their entire careers. And if we're talking about different actors playing the same character, Doctor Who has been around for a while.

The general public still doesn't understand the term "reboot". If they bring Fraiser back on hte manner they are talking about it would not be a reboot. It would be a continuation or a spinoff.

In the series finale, wasn't it left open wheather Fraiser was flying to Chicago to be with the woman or wheather he went to San Francisco to his new job. All the articles point to him going to Chicago, but as I recall it ended with more of a cliffhangfer.

Yeah, I wish they'd use the term "relaunch" when the old continuity is remaining intact.

I was thinking more along those lines. Of course for animation the cast of the Simpsons is up there, but the Frasier character has been around what? 23yrs?

Nope, he goes to Chicago. They left it open-ended during the episode but spilled the beans at the very end :

Norm, yes... not just liver failure but probably a heart attack as well - he was a big boy.

Cliff didn't come across as a heavy drinker - he seemed to be nursing his beers.

There's still Peter Sallis from Last of the Summer Wine. The show ran from 1973 to 2010. I believe he was in every episode.

At this point it's moot because Kelsey has that new show coming out. He seems to like doing dramas these days.

Yep. As The World Turns, has the top 3 characters at 47, 50 and 54 years of portrayal.

What ever happened with the proposed reboot? It's been almost a year and a half and it doesn't seem like anything has materialized yet.

Thanks for the update.

I don't how they could be ready for a late summer release date as the article states though if they are still shopping around for networks. I would have thought getting a network should be easy for this though. These reboots seem to do well for the most part. Will and Grace came back with decent ratings for about three years. Fraiser has a lot more nostalgic factor than W&G so it would seem like it would do better. Even if none of the networks wanted to pick it up, I would suspect that Netflix would want to jump on it condiering they did well with Fuller House. but I guess it's a matter of keeping the costs down with the principal cast.

There was never a proposed reboot. There is a proposed revival.

The ratings were only decent the first few episodes when it first returned. And they dropped significantly each week. But NBC had already renewed the show for two seasons. It was cancelled before the third season even began.

I was going by the thread title which referred to it as a reboot. I know it's not a reboot, but most of the articles keep referring to it as a reboot as they most often do with other shows.

Eh, I'm not sure about this. Watching Frasier search for true love was tiring after a while.

If this gets made, it will probably be for CBS All-Access since they own the rights to the series.

I didn't know CBS owned it. I figure it was owned by NBC.

re: Frasier (Paramount+) - revival series - premieres 10/12/23

Frasier is one of my GOAT tv shows, and I have no interest in this yet. Frasier in another city? Why would the rest of the cast be there? Martin is dead, why would Niles, Daphne and Roz follow him? If they aren't in the show, I'm out.
